I am a SW geek, and I would love to have that Star Wars collection.

collection of "Cracked" magazines noticably absent from he list....

Does the article writer know they re-released the Constructicons countless times over the years? Hell, you can get them, the Aerobots, or the Combaticons in cheap knockoff Easter Basket form every year at Wal-Mart.

Knew a guy who had a collection of over 5 000 original DVDs. Containing over 1 000 series.

He had watched less then half of them last time I checked...

I'm a SW geek too but when you have "fat-chick-from-Jabba's-palace" action figure in your collection, you have to start asking yourself some serious questions.

it hurt.

Frankly, I think the dice thing is actually cool. That's the perfect thing to collect - small, minimalist, can be beautiful, cross-cultural, and not commonly collected.

That's just cool.

I had 23 pencil-neck geeks buried in my yard back in Florida. Had to leave tham behind. :-(

studebaker hoch 2008-11-02 08:00:30 PM
The "Guiness Book of World Records" has ruined far too many lives.

It's a worthless pursuit, like collecting POGs or fark greenlights.

Guy: "I set a world record, it's in the Guiness Book of World Records, want to hear about it?"
Girl: "No."

I had all sorts of GI Joes and Transformers as a kid. I'm glad I was able to enjoy them (read: played with them and then blew them up with firecrackers) rather than being anal by keeping them all sealed up. I may not have anything to sell on eBay but damnit I had fun.

Jeskers 2008-11-02 08:02:28 PM
Baka-san...anime and guns? You're completely right, now I have no reason to make fun of you.

nuclear_asshat 2008-11-02 08:04:27 PM
It's really easy to poke at stuff like this, but then I have found almost no one who doesn't have an equivalent.

Gun collectors, comic collectors, video games, music hoarders, etc. They really aren't that different. It's easy to poke at the gun nut and call "small penis" but your sci-fi book collection isn't much different.

My weakness is watches. I keep thinking I'll find the one that does it all and makes me happy. I purchase it and enjoy it, but a new one always comes calling.

K2JMan 2008-11-02 08:05:37 PM
Yes, she has eight thousand Pikachus (Pikachii?).

I'm pretty sure the plural of any Pokémon creature's name (and the word "Pokémon" itself) is the same in singular and plural. I know Pikachu is, at least.

I've got a buddy with a class three weapons license. The market has dropped for some of that stuff but he has a great hedge against the doom and gloom of the current markets. True joy can be found firing an M5 or an AK-47. People pay HUGE money for those guns!

I fully intended to come into this thread with a snide comment about how my extensive collection of turn-of-the-century postcards from insane asylums laughs at the list, but damn, I would love to have all those transformers.

When I was little, I used to collect keychains. Loved them. Always had to get a new one every day or else...

Daniels 2008-11-02 08:18:04 PM
Actually, the linked article about five movies whose endings were changed by the studio at the last minute and ended up sucking was pretty cool.

That said, I think I have about 100 dice. They're all in a leather TSR bag.

My brother is heaps into collecting. He collects a few things, Coins probably his biggest collection. It's worth quite a bit now.

About the only thing I ever collected was Jurasic Park cards.
/have the full set too :)
//will have to find them when I get home from work

williamzabka 2008-11-02 08:20:02 PM
I used to freaking keep everything. Working in collectibles at an auction house made me realize that I don't really need that much. I sell back books after reading them and buy my books used. Moving a lot helped me with this. Where at one point I had a huge collection of comics it was such a biatch to move that I got rid of everything I knew I wouldn't read again and have a much more manageable amount of "things".

I collect instances of sexual encounters with different attractive human beings of the opposite gender. I was up to 99 when I got married. Marriage is made of sacrifices.
