Knight without armor: This is the Obama landslide.

FTA: they soon got a general idea of where the touch-screen Diebold voting machine came from: Georgia.
...
from the looks it's been somewhere exposed to the elements for a while.
...
two touch-screen machines were reported stolen from Macon in 2002.

Sorry. No conspiracy theory for you. Not yours.

Stolen from Macon, or Macon Co.?

Not that it matters.

I miss the old optical scan ballots from when I lived in AL... they're a lot more reliable and trustworthy than the touchscreen crap that we're using in GA.

I would have so quickly taken that thing apart to see if the hamsters and half blind moles are still alive. That and to scavenge the touch screens and computer components.

Moves "Georgia" firmly back into the 2008 Red Column, m'boys.

Bob Balaban: So they finally admit there are bugs in the voting machine?

It's a Diebold machine.

So how possible is it to use the key card and memory chip nefariously in a different machine? Anyone here familiar enough with these things to know?

If you look closely you can see the brains of everyone in the country that still supports Bush. No, not the little dots, you'll need a microscope.

From what I understand, it's very possible but not worth it. Why not worth it you ask? The machines are protected by something like mini-bar keys (they're all the same) and use standard memory cards that you can pick up at your local shiatty electronics store.

Feel safe about your vote now?

you need a voting machine? shiat, i can get you a voting machine in 3 hours.

lol. this, maybe.

acchief 2008-11-02 06:56:51 PM
2002 was the first year these machines were used in Georgia, and at the time I remember the number of machines stolen from Macon was closer to about 30. Many in Ga. are convinced that's how the first republican governor since reconstruction won in an overnight 15-pt swing originally favoring the Democrat incumbent.

Before that we used the optical scan ballots for about a decade, and before that were the lever machines.

These DRE machines are probably the reason former Sec. of State Cathy Cox lost her gubernatorial bid in 2006 also. She shoved these machines down our throats as SoS, so we shoved her out the door first chance we had.

There's a lawsuit (^) currently underway to get rid of these things in Georgia, but it keeps getting thrown out or rejected for various reasons. Right now I think it's in its final appeal stage.

You guys better make it a landslide on Tuesday, or all hell might break loose. Should we send some UN international election observers your way?

Well, damn it, now I want one too!!

acchief 2008-11-02 07:34:46 PM
I wonder why this machine would turn up now? Why did they feel the need to get rid of it after all these years? If they needed to get rid of it for fear of getting caught with it, wouldn't it have been more convenient to dump it in a swamp (south Ga is nothing but swampland)? Why did they take it across state lines and dump it where it was sure to be found?

HipsterHolocaust 2008-11-02 07:45:10 PM
This is even better than the time FEMA showed up at my buddy's property. With a trailer. He didn't request one but actually though about accepting it. I told him it was wrong, and later regretted my sense of decency. 'Cos we totally could've partied until the wheels fell off.

I've used one of those before. First they blind you with a bright light, then they copy the vote from the first guy.

maybe it's a machine that wasn't working, or some damn snafu happened, and some town clerk pushed it out in the back yard, and finally hired his cousin's neighbor to dump it in a random location.

\remembers the time when a quantity of old dynamite was found randomly dumped in Chicago

Sad, yet very true.

i was there, when they opened the machine they
found Kenny Baker's mummified corpse inside.

FTA...Authorities said the machine had two metal keys used to unlock it and set it up, and it had a power cord. But it did not have a memory card that records votes, nor a key card programmed to display a ballot.

I really don't like you painting Cletus as a racist. He may be slack-jawed and amazed at that pointy-hairded girl and his ma may be on the dang roof but he's never been a racist

I was thinking of adding screeching tires, but figured that would belabor the punchline.
