Resubmitting this a bunch of times doesn't make it any truthier.

Fark admins are pretty smart. Can you just set up a way to automatically ban people that submit this?

Demetrius [TotalFark] 2008-11-02 02:10:52 PM
I've got a feeling I know who the submittass is that keeps submitting this thing over and over.

Name one coal fired power plant built by "the coal industry".

The coal industry mines coal.
Power companies build power plants.

Just wait till tomorrow night, when all the truly desperate last minute "surprise" headlines come in. Pure, unadulterated, foaming at the mouth fear. The internets will swim in it.

"Obama revealed to eat puppies!"

"Biden is really a Soviet sleeper-agent!"

"We're all gonna die if you vote for the colored communist!"

I'm waiting for tomorrow's revelation, that Obama will be opening camps to re-educate the Red Staters, and maybe to burn Fundamentalists in the ovens.

/Just remember, if this really shows up, you heard it here first.

Um...people have already had that revelation. It's been assumed to be true for weeks now.

What 0Bambi does not understand is that ratepayers pay for these costs, not the evil coal fired power plants.

Utility companies do not go out of business. When they do, everybody in their service areas suffer (as in you will not have heat this winter, lights, or power). This is why utility companies are regulated by the governments. It is in the public interest for them to stay in business.

It is why the costs to stay in business will be passed on to their customers.

Nice going 0bambi!

And here I thought viable alternative fuel was just going to pop up out of nowhere when we started drilling for oil 25 miles off the coast.

For better or worse, coal isn't going away. It's used in vast quantities in steelmaking and the chemical industry.

Remove all Republicans: Why is this a bad thing? Instead of dangerous industries like that, people could just work in solar and wind.

Some of us do :) (avert your eyes Weaver95)

They're gonna have to come up with something newer and scarier, I've already heard all of those.

That's OK, John McCain will bankrupt every other industry.

susansto-helit [TotalFark] 2008-11-02 04:19:38 PM
Oh, noes! He might charge industrial polluters for polluting! Doesn't he know that ripping apart the ecosystem until it can no longer sustain human life while plugging your ears and saying "La la la! I can't hear you!" when it's mentioned that coal is a finite farking resource that will run out anyway is the American way of life?

Obamabi? How do you take yourself seriously?

Mister Awesome 2008-11-02 04:22:24 PM
This won't necessarily bankrupt coal. Coal can be used much cleaner than in the past, and because it is significantly cheaper than natural gas the cap-and-trade system may not make coal plants unfeasible. It just actually puts an incentive towards innovation and on not polluting. God that sounds horrible!

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

I know this current crop of freepers aren't too bright, but I didn't think "if" would be too big of a word for them to understand.

And we will forcibly convert straight men to gayness, and force them to get gay marriages to ugly men. Antique guns will be taken away from their owners and destroyed with sledgehammers covered in dog crap. Taxes on the wealthy will be raised to 90% of income. We will concede defeat in the War on Terror and invite Osama bin Laden to blow up the Statue of Liberty. Beer breweries will be shut down and the only alcohol permitted for consumption will be expensive French wines. High school sex ed classes will have labs, where sexual techniques are practiced in underage orgies. The Bible will be banned, as it contains similar content to any other book that has ever been banned in this country. In fact, white christians will become slaves, owned by non-christians and non-whites.

Or was that last bit going a little too far?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the democrats aren't the ones Putin is laughing at.

I mean, unless Putin starts rearing his head in Alaskan airspace.

I just had this debate with a friend. Nowhere in the article does Obama say he will "bankrupt the coal industry" as stated in the headline. What he said is that he supports a "cap and trade" system, which is also supported by McCain. (new window)

Obama was just stating a fact: Under a cap and trade system anyone opening a new coal powered plant would go bankrupt. Existing plants would be grandfathered in.

The thing that bothers me the most is the SFC never reported his entire plan. The part that sounded *scary* hit the edit room floor.

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2008-11-02 05:43:24 PM
If he promised a massive push for nuclear power at the same time, I'd cheer him on.

Unfortunately, he watched one too many Godzilla movie as a child, and is afraid that gigantic lizards will roam the earth if we don't cover Arizona with solar panels.

Obama is a better candidate than McCain on most issues (IMO), but I think he's on the wrong side on this one.

Sybilll: The thing that bothers me the most is the SFC never reported his entire plan. The part that sounded *scary* hit the edit room floor.

What "scary" part? They didn't report it because it wasn't newsworthy. Obama simply stated a fact: Under a system supported by both he and McCain, a person that tried to open a new coal powered plant would go bankrupt. News Busters turned this into a scary but completely false headline, stating "Obama Tells SF Chronicle He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry." Nowhere in the transcript of Obama's remarks does he say anything that can be rationally interpreted as him saying that.

Where is "he" going to put all of the new nukular power plants? Your backyard? Or Sedona Arizona? Broke Dick Ohio? I'm not saying it's not worthwhile but where the fark are these plants going to be built? When it really comes down to it who is willing to accept them in their community?

unit63 2008-11-02 06:03:32 PM
I just want to know why, if this is such big news, the link isn't to the SF Chronicle.

at -13, and its still greenlit.

This needs more negative votes. Get to it people.

So opening a NEW coal plant is the same as operating an existing one, let alone a clean coal plant? I know that is an oxymoron, but the argument is ridiculous. -1 subtard.

Darkhelm 2008-11-02 06:08:24 PM
I was waiting for the first subtard to successfully submit this POS of a "news" item. You guys should see all the Freepers, Breitparts, Michelle Malkin's of the internets at the moment. Mass masturbation going on right now. Please, just all DIAF for thinking *this* will convince anyone of anything other than the fact that McCain's campaign is dead in the water and sinking.

I'm guessing in the areas where there is high unemployment, and the town is going bankrupt. You'd be surprised how many people forget about NIMBY when they're worried about paying their mortgage and putting food on their tables.

Why does Fark keep greenlighting rightwing shiat sources that I'll never click? Fark is really sucking elephant taint right now and I'd bet Fark will keep sucking it until Wednesday.

An honest source which favors the liberal side isn't balanced out by a lying sack of crap source which favors the conservative side. It just shows how totally bankrupt the right is when they can't put forth anything honest.

Sufficient advertising of the claim, without any clear context and without an opportunity for Senator Obama's campaign to respond, could potentially affect the outcomes of the election in Pennsylvania and Virginia. There may be insufficient time to affect such a change.

/can someone tell me if I used the wording "to affect" correctly or if it should be "to effect"?

RIDETHEWALRUS 2008-11-02 06:12:52 PM
I bet those bitter people will cling even more closely to their guns and religion after the only industry still employing them is actively bankrupted by the president.
