My doctor told me I wasn't getting enough pesticide.

Seriously, after doing a little research, I will continue to buy organic milk; no matter what it costs.

Mine too. From now on, it's only rocks for me.

Since people are more likely to get sick and die from eating organic foods, I'm really sad to hear this.

It's all a giant cash grab.

Oh well... if it feels good, do it.

You saw it coming: Consumers finally wise up and realize that most "organic" labels are pure baloney.

eddyatwork [TotalFark] 2008-11-02 12:30:57 PM
They'll have my arugula when they pry it from my cold dead hands!

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2008-11-02 12:36:19 PM
I am currently eating Kraft Mac and Cheese with tuna and green chile, all primo organic stuff.

Yesdog

I haven't actually seen a baloney label saying it was "organic." ;~)

Regnad Kcin: eriously, after doing a little research, I will continue to buy organic milk; no matter what it costs.

They ultra pasteurize it, it lasts a long time, which is why I get it (plus it really does taste better)

I still love my organic pancakes from an aerosol can.

Same here. Organic milk and eggs taste MUCH better.

really?

The interest got high enough for it to now taper off?
That surprises me.

I have three boys. We go through a gallon a day. I'll stick with the cheap stuff.

Though there is a farm nearby that sells raw milk. I am tempted to try it sometime, despite the signs saying that it may be dangerous...

I have two kids, which is why I only buy organic. The trouble is that the cows' systems don't filter out the pesticides that they eat with their food, so the poison goes right into the old milk bucket.

I never understood the need for Americans to dye their milk white.

I can stand the organic veggies and fruits... some meats (from a cow eating only grass? no injections?)...

but some "organic" stuff is just silly.

signaljammer 2008-11-02 02:24:37 PM
A little tip for organic gardeners like myself: If your veggies are winding up tasting too much like your fertilizer, put a little bit of lime in the soil a week before you harvest. This will limit their mineral uptake and moderate the flavor.

Indeed... when I first saw it, I thought the pan was upside down. Seriously though - organic aerosol pancakes? Isn't that some kinda f'd up oxymoron?

Sources? I have a hard time believing this. I hear all these claims about hormones and other compounds harming our health, but I never hear or see any clear evidence of this being the case.

The planet cannot sustain 6,000,000,000+ people without conventional farming, with pesticides, fertilizers, radiation, etc.

You can have my benzene when you pry it from my cold dead hands. Non-organic just doesn't have that taste and aroma I've gotten used to.

Really, when I saw that the first thing I thought was why is the pan upside down. Then I realized what I was looking at and my stomach got alittle queazy.

/Pancakes in a can looks like a good idea though.

Organic eggs?

Can you please link me to non-organic eggs?

Lucky to live in a country where everything is organic. Well, everything produced here anyway...

I saw that at Costco and laughed.

Organic food looks like some trustafarian rubbed the food in their unwashed armpits, then put it on the shelf

Sweet fancy Jesus! pancakes easy-cheeze style?! WHERE can I get me some of that?!

Moderation in all things. I'm sure there's a happy medium between anything-to-maximize-yield and the hyper-limited organic world that is probably an ideal level. Some limited use of pesticides that would be healthy and sustainable for our booming population.

But that's not marketable. So we get extremes - either the best price, or the one that is certified 100% pesticide, GMO, hormone, etc. free.

Personally, I eat any old shiat, but I feed my toddler organic to cover his bets.

However, I actually get a share from a local organic farm. This lets me buy local and get real organic food - a lot of organic food is only "organic" in that they've bred the veggies to be full of so many natural toxins that they don't need pesticides to kill bugs - they do it on their own.

The other advantage to the local organic farm is that local food tastes fscking awesome, organic or not. When my son was born, a local hippie friend gave me a basket of her best yellow roma and heirloom tomatoes. I went to a butcher and got some very nice bacon and made the best bacon-and-tomato sandwiches I will ever taste. I still drool at the memory.

The tomatoes that you get from the grocery store do not deserve to be called such. They are fleshy water-balloons, the vegetable equivalent of a bud light. But you can get that kind of benefit without going into crazy organic land - anybody who grows their food with love will make awesome veggies.

Either way, on the health side, especially you folks in the USA - you really want bovine growth hormone in your kids' milk?

Good farking lord.

You should not consume food cooked in that object that was once a frying pan. For your own health and safety, you really, really need to get a new pan. Seriously. Go. Go now. Go buy a new pan.

Hmmmmm... the pan doesn't look that bad to the naked eye. Either way, my spray-on pancakes were delicious.

And by delicious, I mean ok.

LurkinFarker 2008-11-02 02:36:56 PM
Thank god. I prefer food that started as real food, was turned into various food-grade chemicals, and then was skillfully reassembled into tasty, processed goodness.

/the more pesticides, the better
//the more natural gas used to make the fertilizer to grow it the better, too

lordargent 2008-11-02 02:39:35 PM
I only eat organic food.

Of course, I'm using the chemist's definition of organic.

/I'll have the charcoal with a side of graphite, and some diamonds for desert.

What signs? People drank raw milk for thousands of years. Yet somehow it's now dangerous?

Who in this day and age can afford Whole Paycheck?
Jeesch - the morons who support that place where there are local co-ops that charge 70% less......

Bigsigh 2008-11-02 02:41:03 PM
I buy certain things organic (like tomatoes) because they taste better; despite being below poverty lines. My mom gardens a lot and I ate fresh veggies growing up, the ones in the grocery store just don't taste right. Even whole foods veggies aren't really as good- but they're better than the standard grocery store so I pay more for them.

I have some friends who buy environmentally-friendly and organic products to clean their house. I would love to reduce environmental waste, but they cost substantially more money and if it comes between buying environmentally clean detergent and eating dinner that night I tend to focus just on feeding myself. I wish that wasn't the choice that had to be made.

Yes, it is. Why do you think the process of pasteurization was invented and is used today?

I refuse to eat foods that contain hyrdocarbons. I think it's just a goofy new-age hippy fad.

Train_of_Thought 2008-11-02 02:43:38 PM
That's because the Bush Administration got laws passed changing the requirements for organic food labeling so that their lobbyists' companies could smack an organic sticker on their drug-infested food also.

Organic food ain't what it used to be.
