In Texas, only one of the three legally recognized parties supports getting rid of the three-tier system and other absurd alcohol restrictions that are a mixture of moralizing blue laws and handouts to rent-seeking lobbyists.

So if you want cheaper beer, vote Libertarian!

When I worked on the Obama campaign in Birmingham we got free beer. I drank most of it and then started arguing for the Republican party just to be an ass. Man was I drunk, subsequently I am not allowed to go back to the campaign headquarters..... something about urinating in a corner or something.....good times.

Seconded. I'm weird as all getout, but Ren Faire and CosPlay people annoy me and weird me out in equal measures.

Ah yes, I worked this festival as kid, selling pretzels. Fun times as a 14 yo camping in the campgrounds, drinking cherry vodka.

Hallelujah, amen. As an a both a purveyor and consumer of large quantities of alcohol in Texas, you're damned skippy I vote Libertarian for state and local offices.

Hmm. I don't dress up, but I go every year. I'm also a Trekkie, though, so I imagine those two combine to make me extra weird.

I might dress up if I could ever find something I could stand to wear. I hate dresses and I'm well aware that I'm too fat for any other popular female costume.

Heh. The too fat thing is actually the only thing that keeps me from dressing up for Star Trek and Sci-fi cons. I like to think that I'm sparing you all in some small way.

I think ren faire people are some of the nicest people I met. So what if they dress up. So do most of these suit and tie types. They work in a office and dress the part and speak of mergers, synergy, and reports. The difference is the rennies have a good time at what they do and don't feel hollow and dirty after a days wage.

We have at least two "Western Supply" stores here in Flagstaff. The impulse to stick up signs reading
COWBOY COSPLAY, INC.
is overwhelming sometimes.

Well, I don't know about the "dirty" part. The band I'm in performs at faires all around the country. The first thing I want to do when I get back to the hotel/apartment/house is SHOWER. We tend to NOT camp at faire sites whenever possible.

Sometimes, it's unavoidable, like when we're performing at an SCA event (ie Pennsic War) when... well, you're camping for a week or more. It gets hot and disgusting, and humid as hell.

I love that Ren Fest. I had such a blast the last time I went. I will be bringing my girls the next time we go. I can't wait to go and visit my parents next year. They moved and now only 50 miles away. Whee...

I used to go to the TX Renfest religiously. Costume, rapier, main gauche, the whole nine yards. The most glorious time was when I finally turned 21 and could DRINK at Renfest. It hasn't been the same since. ;)

Wow they caught Centaur reasonably sober. They must have done the story very early in the morning.

I wonder if they will take away my rennie card if I mention the "show your hooters for shooters camp" near the bonfire at the campgrounds.

Oops.

Unless I go as a sarracen I'll look odd.

I am totally down for doing this. The people at Gene's are nice enough, so they're excluded from this. But Corral West and Circle Q are going down.
