And as long as it equals "speech", it always will.

The American Plutocracy is nothing new. It was one of the major fears of our founding fathers, but it's unfortunately the way the world works. Since the dawn of time, material wealth has been conflated with success. And we as a people look to successful people to lead us. Thus, it goes hand in hand that our leaders are going to be men and women with significant ties to material wealth; if not their own, the wealth of others that propels - and compels - them.

Republicrats '08. Vote the same and make sure nothing changes!

"When you have that many contributors, I think it does, in a weird way, cleanse the system even though it seems like that much more money," the Federal Election Commission chairman, Republican Donald F. McGahn II, said recently. "That many more contributors disperse the influence of any one contributor."

You know, that's how I feel about Obama's massive haul. The fact that it came from so many small donors means that he'll be beholden to the people instead of the NRA/Unions/Large Corporations. In a way, Obama has real public funding, while the typical campaign has tax money combined with PAC money.
