Oh good lord. I almost feel bad for her

mesohorny 2008-11-01 07:28:00 PM
Thrakkerzog: mesohorny: These guys screwed up a awesome prank call. Why didnt they talk dirty to her in a sweet french accent? Like "is this line private? Ok uhmmm You know i have many many luxury yachts and hotels maybe we can get together sometime wee wee" I watch you on tv late at night when my wife is out you know wee wee?

wee wee? I never took French, but it is "oui".

This isn't odd, but it did catch me off guard and amuse me... but in French porn, they do call out "Oui! Oui!". :-)

Yeah i dont speak french either but you get the idea,

i give these guys props on pulling it off but they missed a huge opportunity for some real comedy.

They should have did it with a Pepe Le Pew voice/personality

P: Right, that's what it's all about, the middle class and government needing to work for them. You're a very good example for us here.

// she appears to have a touch of the downs herself...
none of her sentences work very well...that works real well in boozy sex talk, foreign affairs, not so much.

Not to be all partisan and all, but I just can't picture Obama or Biden falling for this.

Actually I can imagine Biden falling for this. He gets punked by real questions all the time.

And for the person who was laughing about the Prime Minister of Quebec--from Wikipedia:

"The Premier of Quebec (in French Premier ministre du Québec, sometimes literally translated as Prime Minister of Quebec) is the first minister for the Canadian province of Quebec."

Mordant: Figures all you libs would stand by and laugh as her first amendment rights are trampled like this.

Some people just aren't cut out for logic. You are clearly one of them. Read this, then explain exactly how her first amendment rights were violated. By a couple of Canadians.

You've got a real case of industrial strength stupid going on there, son. I can see why you're so defensive. Birds of a feather, and all that.

Just wow.
It's like the worst kind of train wreck, it's so bad that you don't even want to watch but somehow, no matter how horrible it is, you can't look away.

Why are F'ers ignoring the fact that if it was not a prank she FAILED at being any sort of ambassador for America. Do you want her honestly acting like a half-wit to a real head of state. SHE IS A farkING MORON AND THIS IS THE MOST RAW PROOF YET.

It would have been better if they hadn't let her in on the prank, and let her brag at some rally about being called by Sarkozy. Having the prank come out after she touted it as foreign relations cred would have been so so cruel/awesome.

In my own tin foil hat world I believe Palin knew it was a prank and went along with it from the get go. Those who already hate her will make fun of her but most people will simply feel sorry for her. In politics, sympathy is good.

I gotta cut Palin a bit of slack on this. I mean how would you know, maybe Sarkozy is some sex freak, and even so you aren't going to hang up on the guy and potentially create international distrust. If it was me, I'm sure I would be thinking WTF after a minute or so, but wouldn't dare call him out on it.

unit63: Setting up a call like this ought to take days spent coordinating every last detail between the respective parties' aides (for example, who gets on the line first is something of a power play and never done by accident). Didn't they notice the caller ID wasn't from France, or their email domain names, or that something was not right with whoever they were communicating with? Heads of state don't just call other people out of the blue and hope they're at their desk or not in the middle of dinner or something.

You sound like you watch a lot of TV, probably 24 and The West Wing.

To a certain extent, yes. However, when they referenced the name of the Canadian PM as "some guy" it does just a little undercut her thing about being Sarah the Magnificent esp when concerning countries that border her state.

Hiro's Protagonist: When's the last time America was clever enough to have their radio DJs prank a prominent foreign politician?

I heard recently that the FCC has threatened to fine radio stations from making cold crank calls to people. I believe all those wacky morning zoo type prank calls are all done in-house, and no-one really calls anybody without their express permission first.

As far as Sarah Palin, well, she's a moron, is anybody surprised at this point? I guess we are just surprised that she didn't say she loves those major French imports including Fries and Toast.

OMFarkingG. That was sick, but funny as heck. I am so glad I know enough French to have picked up the jokes :)

Well within the limits of standard Canadian political comedy, for sure. I hope to heck that the GOP DOESN'T win this election or we might have to watch out for the bombers ....

Gifted Many Few: She is running for the second highest office in the US and she doesn't even have caller ID.

Yeah, agree there, but another question here is if she was called at a campaign office or in the governor's office.

In this day where everyone has a cellphone with caller ID, it's surprising how few high-level government office phones have caller ID like we think of it in our homes and businesses. Sure, someone sees the number somewhere and it gets logged on computer, but not always at the phone (or even in the office) where it is answered or in the way we think.

LOL no I don't watch shows like that. I didn't mean it took days of continuous work setting up the call, only it probably would have been done with multiple contacts over the course of several days where something fishy ought to have been detected by her staff about who they were communicating with. And the pranksters themselves did say it took a lot of work and multiple points of contact.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that was a total cartoon accent.

The problem is that Palin, and her staff by extension, are so narcissistic that they take this as a matter of course, and that their view of the world is so stereotypical that a Warner Brothers style stereotype from 50 years ago still fits into their world view.

Joan o' Fark 2008-11-01 07:54:04 PM
Yeah, I feel bad for the staffer that handled the call; at minimum she probably got a good ass reaming.

Then again, I'll bet Palin's staff are used that.

That's worse than the time George Takei thought he was talking to the guy from Fantasy Island...and that's because Takei wasn't running for political office.

Unbelievable! What a disaster this woman is!
That cornball french accent is pure gold, and would have tipped off anyone with half a brain. Palin's familiarity with the world outside of the United States clearly matches that of Bush.
