Sigh. Too bad they had to take Nicks to get Buckingham. Guy's a genius if a bit nuts.

what do you Fleetwood Mac fans think of the "Tusk" album?
I think the only really good song is "Sara" [so nice, haunting, etc.... and those drums....]
the rest is meh, IMHO.
I like "bare trees", "Fleetwood Mac" [1975], and "Rumours" way better.

Look at her face in that pic. If that's not a total "I'm tweaked out of my gourd on blow" look, then I don't know what is.

That is NOT Fleetwood Mac, FM was a British Blues Band,
now get off my lawn.
I got Mick Fleetwoods autograph at Costco last year! BFD

Tusk
isn't as accessible or consistent as Rumours or the ST, but it's still really solid, and relative to their other albums, it's also the most adventurous. Sara is the best song on the album, but there's a lot of deeper cuts that get overlooked. "Storms", "Beautiful Child", "Never Make Me Cry" and "Brown Eyes" have the same sense of atmosphere. "I Know I'm Not Wrong", "That's Enough for Me" and "What Makes You Think You're the One" are overlooked little pop gems.

Didn't Mick Fleetwood estimate that he spent something like $5 million on blow throughout his career?

They're probably sitting on a wheelbarrow full of cocaine in that picture.

Yep - and "The Legendary Christine Perfect" is a nice little album of mid-70s rock.

I picked up on the band around Future Games and always thought Heroes Are Hard To Find was my fave. The two blockbuster albums, Rumor and FM, were albums I didn't have to buy - it was either on the radio or someone's stereo 24-hrs a day. Not bad albums, but I preferred the Danny Kirwan - Bob Welch band.

Always dug Hypnotized. Great tune.

Here is former FM lead singer Bob Welch doing Hypnotized. Way better than any of the nasal droning of Stevie Nicks. YMMV

Stevie Nicks sings? Oh yeah, she does.

She was always hot, and if you believe the stories, one of the biggest whores in show business.

She has banged almost every guy that ever got within 10 feet of her. I have never got that close, maybe some of you have.

I always thought that Stevie Nicks' Septum would be a great name for a band.

chelmets 2008-10-31 08:59:46 PM
Tusk isn't an all around great album like Rumours, but it has some of their best material, particularly Buckingham's songs. If Tusk was a Buckingham solo album, it would have been great. The McVie and Nicks songs on that album aren't that great. I never liked many of Stevie's songs, and McVie wrote some good 80's material. "Love in Store" is a really good homage to Northern Soul.

mfaby 2008-10-31 09:13:19 PM
1) I dont know what Buckingham and Mick were doing there but man!
It sounded like they were on the verge of completely ripping that song up! Too bad they didn't cut loose!

2) Nicks' boots: I saw them warm-up for Ten Years After when 'Fleetwood Mac'came out and the reason Stevie wears those tall boots is that she has one of the widest asses in music -
'Baby got Back' wide - so the tall heels make her look thiner.

3) Re: her being a whore. Thats a little harsh but a guy I knew drove limo and picked her and some chick up after a concert she did and he said they were going at it in the back seat before they got out of the stage area.

My take on Tusk --
I think it is actually a masterpiece, in the same way that the White Album by the Beatles is. It is more a collection of individual songs than group efforts, and the distinct sensibilities of the three writers -- Christine, Lindsey and Stevie -- are on display in their respective songs.
Over and Over, Brown Eyes, Never Forget and Think About Me are all terrific tracks by Chris. I prefer Angel, Storms and Sisters of the Moon to Sara, and Lindsey's contributions -- especially That's Enough For Me, The Ledge and Not That Funny -- are frenetic chaos. The track I Know I'm Not Wrong is the highlight of the album to me -- it is an absolutely perfect pop gem that comes out of nowhere. By the way, the LP and the CD mixes of the song are completely different so, if you have a turntable, search out a vinyl pressing for a treat.

All this being said, Mystery To Me is my favorite album of the Bob Welch period, and Then Play On of the Peter Green period.
I also like Behind the Mask, the album released after Lindsey left the band....

mfaby: she has one of the widest asses in music

I was running FOH vid cam for one of her recent concerts and I had VERY specific instructions about zooming out to head-to-toe if she presented a profile.
Seems she is a little self-conscious.
Also couldn't zoom in any closer than waist-to-top-of-hair/hat otherwise the cracks in her face Bondo would show. She had a custom articulated make-up chair (in its own compact car-sized road case) that looked like it belonged on the space shuttle, complete with oxygen tank, lights, and about fifteen mirrors. That and an airbrush makeup rig lived backstage in a special tent along with her costume changes.

It was an alright show if you ignored the between-song banter, mostly about how she wrote all of the FM hits and was solely responsible for the band's popularity.

Tusk is brilliant. Amazing production, so that even the songs that seem slight end up having tons of layers. One of those albums that makes me think, "Hmm, maybe subsisting entirely on cocaine really does make you a better musician."

I have Buckingham's Go Insane, and it's even more messed up. I mean, on the first song his vocals bounce between speakers on every other word.

TheOtherOne79 [TotalFark] 2008-11-01 12:43:48 PM
Go Your Own Way could have been titled "Stevie, you are a farking wh*re". I mean how awesome is Lindsay? He writes a brutal song about his ex and then takes it to the band. So not only does she have to hear this song for the rest of her life, she has to sing back up on it as well.

Listen again - that bad background "ooooh" is not Stevie Nicks, her vocals are fine. Its someone else in the band throwing that horrible backing in
