and then he smashed his guitar on stage--woo

So he's got the ex-junkie, washed up ballad writer vote all sewn up... which is nice.

nekom [TotalFark] 2008-10-30 08:16:41 AM
Well on the one hand he's a celebrity, and a musician, both of which tend to lean to the left. But on the other hand, he's rich, so there's that. In any case, this is bad news... for Obama.

Joe Perry is a closet socialist and class warfare advocate. Want proof? Take the following lyrics from his 1993 album "Get a Grip:

Cause I'm a sick of your complainin'
About how many bills
And I'm sick of all your biatchin'
Bout your poodles and your pills

I believe in rags to riches
Your inheritence won't last
So take your Grey Poupon my friend
And shove it up your ass!

Eat the Rich: there's only one thing they're good for

Condescending. Violent. Dismissive. Terroristic. Elitist. Wrong for rock 'n' roll. Wrong for America.

madmann [TotalFark] 2008-10-30 09:13:36 AM
Joe Perry was FOR drugs before he was against them.

Flip-flopper.

/In the immortal words of Frank Zappa, "Shut up and play yer guitar".

maddogdelta [TotalFark] 2008-10-30 09:18:53 AM
So......

A drug addled mutimillionaire says "Vote McCain"?

A washed up over the hill musician says "Vote McCain"?

That's it. I always do what washed up drug addicts tell me to do.

Who does Elvis want me to vote for?

The real question is What would Joe Strummer do?

/You had to go and die when the world needed you most!?

vernonFL [TotalFark] 2008-10-30 09:21:31 AM
He's got Toys in the Attic. He was overcome by Sweet Emotion.

A McCain victory? Dream On.

/And what about the cavalcade on the left of inflated egos jumping on the BO bandwagon? Give me a break.. anyone who is swayed by the endorsement of some "entertainer" is a moron, a fool and well... deserves everything that will occur from thier ill fated influenced vote.

True. The horrible example of Ronald Reagan proves that entertainers don't belong in politics.

Wrong_Intentions 2008-10-30 09:33:33 AM
Maybe the McCain campaign should start playing "Seasons of Wither" at their rallies? It is a fitting description.

bordergirl 2008-10-30 09:34:24 AM
Wow, that's the first musician I've heard of (other than Xtina) that supports McCain.

/guess someone has to vote for him

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Scott the Twat 2008-10-30 09:34:30 AM
There was a time when nobody in rock 'n roll was cooler than Joe Perry.

Fortunately, I can still blast Get Your Wings (sentimental favorite) and not worry about Joe's desire to see a dangerous old man become president of the United States.

/can I?
//I think I can

Do they now have to give equal time to Obama in the little pre-movie at the Rock'N'Rollercoaster?

KeatingFive: True. The horrible example of Ronald Reagan proves that entertainers don't belong in politics.

More examples:

Al Franken
Sonny Bono
Jesse Ventura
Arnold Shwarzenegger
Cicciolina

Wait, scratch that last one. She's fine in politics.

I never liked these guys, and now it's official: everything they stand for sucks ass. It's a breaking point at which I can no longer tolerate all the annoying stuff about their songs or their quotes in the media, or their general dumbness.

The Viewer 2008-10-30 09:42:46 AM
I've always liked Joe, and since I'm an open-minded, forgiving liberal, I will continue to like Joe and I'll encourage others to do the same.

However, this is disappointing. Wish he'd just've let "the music do the talking"...

//No longer buying Joe Perry's hot sauce (not THAT forgiving!)
///"Eat the Rich"'s lyrics are by Steven Tyler, who is a little crazy, but is no Republican

Kind of like John McCain.

backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the covers
till I talked to your daddy, he say
he said "you ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin
then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways"
I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
oh, the times I could reminisce
'cause the best things of lovin' with her sister and her cousin
only started with a little kiss
like this!

Of course he endorsed McCain. They're about the same age.

\Aerosmith = Old

FarkedOver: The real question is What would Joe Strummer do?

I don't think that's actually remotely in question. I think Joe Strummer included a clause in his will that his post-humous, non-US Citizen vote always go to the most socialist candidate, so in this case he'd endorse McCain.

barneyfifesbullet 2008-10-30 10:08:29 AM
Joe Perry is one of the coolest mofos ever, regardless of his politics.

Also, It's a good thing Obama never snorted any cocaine.

Oh, wait...
