Im not even a DM fan. And this angers me

Keep in mind tho: Somewhere, somehow Depeche Mode agreed to this

But It's sad that more and more artist rely on other people's music, because they clearly cant compose anything worth shiat.

All these kids can do is sing well, so what do you? Rip off a time-tested hit , and have someone rap over it.

Book it. Done.

Oh, But keep in mind, it's **PIRATE** that are ruining the industry. NOt this at all

yikes.

Marilyn Manson did a good cover of the song.

This, not so much.

Maybe alcohol will wash that out of my brain. I hope. I hope.

She has done to Personal Jesus what Rhianna did to Tainted Love.

This is why I don't bat an eye if people pirate songs by the billions. If this is the latest, greatest thing major labels can hack up on my carpet, then they deserve to be robbed blind.

Johnny Cash's Personal Jesus is better than his Hurt.

TheXerox [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 08:37:44 PM
This sort of thing needs to stop right now. Someone needs to put a hit out on her or something and send a message to the kids that this sort of thing will not be tolerated.

Freaking horrible.

Most children of the real 80s have a very diverse taste in music. Especially if you grew up in New Orleans like I did. I dropped in 89 and I remember them way before then. Very early 80s.

It was a good song, they had evolved a bit from people are people(I always think People are People and Relax should have BOTH been Frankie goes to Hollywood songs)

They were a great early goth band. Back when goth chicks shaved their legs, werent fat, and had brains behind the black outfits.

Duff should DIAF.

mfaby 2008-10-28 09:59:59 PM
What a bunch of whiners.

She looks good and sounds pretty good and the song is fairly mindless pop. Big deal.

'Personal Jesus' is a middlin'-to-crappy song at best.

NO ONE's youth is sacred so get used to it.

One of the worst of the popular DM songs.

Some Great Reward FTW.

Kevin5280 2008-10-28 10:18:19 PM
This is bad, but it's not nearly as bad as her and her sister's destruction of The Go-Go's "Our Lips Our Sealed." That should have gotten both of them locked up in Gitmo.

UsikFark 2008-10-28 10:19:03 PM

MM's cover was great.... Actually, I'm not a huge fan of DM but the slight filter of a cover, whether it's MM or Rammstein or even Cash, makes me feel like one.

I worked with Hilary on a movie back in '03.

She seemed like such and sweet innocent kid back then.

I'm getting really old. I can't understand the younguns music anymore at all.

Manson's cover sucked. "Look, the alleged Satanist is singing about Jesus! How shocking!" I don't think so.

came to say this.

John_Rat_Safari 2008-10-28 11:18:13 PM
Could this be any more generic????

Jeeshus!

Looped original, rap dude wearing designer thrift, breathy shrieky blonde, bored Madonna video...

Note to music industry, the best pop songs of the past five years were 'Parenthesis' by The Blow and 'Another Life' by Faraway Places. Anybody and everybody else with any inkling of desire towards making popular music should do a cover of 4'33" by John Cage and release that (and only that) until the whole world gets a little respite from your insane and incestuous industry.

i'd let her sample something of mine

BaronVonAsshat 2008-10-29 12:16:49 AM
Now, this is FAR from my favorite DM song, but this is a joke.

/Gravity Kills did a great cover
//Manson ripped that cover off nearly sample by sample (that's saying a lot since I like Manson)
///But Duff? SERIOUSLY?!?

Insane in the McCain 2008-10-29 12:19:31 AM
It's still not as bad as her My Generation Cover (new window)

I hope I don't die before I get old? My anus prolapsed after hearing this.

Also, why the hell is she releasing a best of album? She's only got like 3 albums, and she already released a best of a couple of years back.

I hate teenagers.

Weirdnjfan1 2008-10-29 12:48:47 AM
Christ is that the guy from Gym Class Heroes? This is a total rip off right down to the movement of the song. God, when will people learn about sampling and how bad it is.

Gordon Bennett 2008-10-29 01:05:50 AM
HappyHarryHardOn: All these kids can do is sing well, so what do you?

Can they sing well? Her vocals in that song were so overprocessed and layered, it quite literally sounds like a computerised choir every time she opens her mouth in the video.

mat catastrophe 2008-10-29 01:07:11 AM
I hate to break this to all of you hardcore Depeche Mode fans, but they almost had to be complicit in this track ever seeing the light of day.

Unless they just have no control over their own catalog.

In either case, they would be heartless corporate whores themselves.

You all lose.

Not a bad track on it.

1:36 into the Duff song, and it's among the worst things I've heard in my life.

mud_shark 2008-10-29 02:33:01 AM
You mean besides Depeche Mode, right? I never liked them - I'm not even sure who Hillary Duff is and a stripper once told me that she liked some band called KMFDM which she told me stood for Kill Mother Farking Depeche Mode and I'm sure I'd hate them too, but all of you should burn in hell - jst because I said so.

Thanks for your time

Whatthefark 2008-10-29 02:45:53 AM
I don't care about her singing or the fact she ripped of DM or that she can't act. I would violate that chick in every way possible. Wrecked...that's right, she would be wrecked.

A lot of artists do not have control over their own catalog. A lot take a boatload of money up front and sign away rights to the song.

conejo 2008-10-29 03:16:04 AM
This Hilary Duff song is teh suck.

That is all.

Jedekai 2008-10-29 03:47:35 AM
If you're going to take a song from a genre that is basically the antithesis of the music you write or play, Miss Duff, kindly follow in the footsteps of making it something other than just a pale imitation:

Here, this should be a good reference point for how to cover a song and make it sound totally different in a good way:

Tori Amos - Raining Blood (As a Slayer fan I think this version is better than the original, it replaces pure aggression with eerie doom and dread. This is the kind of music bad acid trips are started by.)

Sorry, but it's one of those "single image" YouTube sound files. ALSO: Link goes pop with the quickness

BaronVonAsshat 2008-10-29 03:56:16 AM
Since when did the originating band have a major say in who covers their songs?... I can think of at least 5 shiatty Dead cover bands that likely don't meet the Dead's approval.

And for the record, KMFDM stands for Kein Mitleid fűr die Mehrheit--No Mercy for the Majority. PLEASE end that myth... It's 20 years old and it's still not funny.

BaronVonAsshat 2008-10-29 03:57:40 AM

Huh?

So it's not 'Kermit Makes Furry Dangle Merkins'???

Oh.

BaronVonAsshat 2008-10-29 04:08:42 AM

Karma Chameleon: Is it just me, or does this song have a higher rate of bastardization than most?

This. I hate sampling, the songs almost never turn out good, and asshat kid have a tendency to believe that the re-make is the original. My sister(who's 19) still thinks Personal Jesus is Marilyn Manson original. Damn asshat teenagers, they wouldn't know good original music if it bit them in the arse.

/on a side note I liked Flyleaf's cover of enjoy the silence
