Saw this the very first time. Thought the whole idea was the greatest thing in the world. So sad that they lost their way over time.

Dreadstar [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 10:49:01 AM
Protip: If you browse by artist, it's not exactly in alphabetical order. First is the "band names" A-Z and then it goes to "people names" A-Z.

DeadZone 2008-10-28 10:49:36 AM
Not every one.

"MTV Music site posts every music video ever made"

And in a case of history repeating itself, the videos will eventually be replaced by crappy reality shows.

Dinki [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 10:52:00 AM
The really cool thing about MTV when it first started- there were so few videos out that they would take just about anyones. It was a great forum for new music. Then the big labels jumped on board and it became just another mainstream radio station with pictures.

Bonkthat_Again [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 10:53:13 AM
I would gladly pay for this service if they offered HD.

Dreadstar [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 10:53:16 AM
Wait, forget what I said, but it's still weird. Individual artists are in the browse by letter categories based on the first letter of their last name. Each letter is then alphabetical by the artist's whole name. So somebody like Ryan Adams is on the A page, but he's down near the bottom because his name starts with an R, not near the top because of "Adams."

this.

pretty rad. I would love to hit random and let it go.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 10:58:13 AM
The first artist I searched for, Jean Beauvoir, came back "No artists are found." Same thing for E.G. Daily.

All I wanted was a Pepsi.

labman [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:03:56 AM
They might as well put them here. It's not like they play any of them on MTV anymore.

Tom_Slick [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:07:10 AM
Cool, I can pretend it is 1992 again and play November Rain 34 times a day.

But she wouldn't give it to me!

A cool idea, but hardly every video. A quick scan for way early MTV staples like Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue" or Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie" or ANYTHING by Missing Persons came up empty.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:09:55 AM
No Vinnie Vincent Invasion either? WTF is this website's problem?

sepuku2 [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:12:12 AM
So many of my favorites are missing. At least they had some Talking Heads.

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:13:36 AM
Hey, they DID have Fred Schneider's "Monster." Cool.

Dreadstar [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:14:37 AM

Yeah, no "The Flyer" or "On the Loose" by Saga, no Tubes (so no "Talk to Ya Later" or "She's a Beauty"...

tnpir [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:16:37 AM
Words cannot descibe the AWESOME in this.

Dreadstar [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:18:44 AM
Krokus' "Screamin in the Night" is a live clip and not the original video. I remember that being really bad in a cinematic sort of way.

joshiz [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:21:55 AM
Not even close to every video...I searched for 5 things off the bat that weren't on there...

Still cool though.

VonKraut 2008-10-28 11:23:12 AM
too bad doesn't work in canada

Dinki [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:28:17 AM
Hopefully the missing vids just haven't been added yet. MTV could go a long way in rebuilding it's credibility if it actually did post them all.

/not sure if MTV has the rights to all of them anymore tho.

ElPresidente [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:35:52 AM
VonKraut: too bad doesn't work in canada

or the UK or anywhere outside the USA.

azmoviez [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:36:01 AM
It's odd the mix that they have. I figured they'd have all the early 80's staples, but Falco does not turn up Rock Me Amadeus. They do have DOWN. Granted they are not exactly obscure.

Tom_Slick [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:36:03 AM
Now that ain't workin that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the mtv
That ain't workin that's the way you do it
Money for nothin and your chicks for free

I was about to say the same thing. I watched about 30 seconds of the live clip, then watched "Ballroom Blitz" instead.

stickmangrit [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:40:54 AM
shiat, and i thought getting the uncut version of Closer on my X-Box was cool.

this is pretty farkin sweet.

Torgo_of_Manos [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:43:40 AM
I see to have a better time finding what I want on YouTube...Just did a quick search on Donnie Iris (as obscure/popular artist that I could think of off the top of my head) and found videos on y-tube but the MTV site never heard of him...

/Just say'n

tallguywithglasseson [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 11:55:43 AM
Let me humbly request:

Put up every episode of 120 minutes

Also, please put up every episode of 120 minutes

/every episode of 120 minutes

Tom_Slick [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 12:09:41 PM
After killing some time I can confirm they edit the videos just as they would for TV. And I thought today would be a good day.

I'm currently in Norway, and it works fine over here.

I guess my internet is better than yours.

It is no surprise that is in the "Most Watched" list near the top.

Mmm... Heard that at a party this weekend. Rather catchy.

rocinante721 2008-10-28 12:46:01 PM
FAIL

They do not have STYX "HEAVY METAL POISONING"

hellbilly 2008-10-28 12:46:15 PM
No Minutemen videos listed (even though they made a few), guess there's a reason I don't watch MTV.

Cailin Tinn 2008-10-28 12:47:21 PM
I must peruse these later...

awesome for people who have yet to discover youtube?

Fark Me with a Chainsaw 2008-10-28 01:15:53 PM
Maybe you guys could help me. I'm looking for a video, but I don't know who it's by, or what it's called.

All I remember is that, in the video, there's a clean-cut guy dancing, singing to a girl, promising not to give her up? It was really catchy back in the day.

Any ideas?

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 01:16:46 PM
well, sheesh, i remember back in the day when MTV would play them videos for us.

The Glass Dragon 2008-10-28 01:19:27 PM
Back when MTV2 actually played videos, they ran this promotion where they would air every single video ever from A to Z. It took them five months to get through them all.

I saw videos I never knew existed. And it was awesome.

svnt 2008-10-28 01:20:19 PM
I wouldn't say all of them. No Curve. And I remember seeing that on 120 minutes back in the day. MTV is like a pussing sore on the genitals of music.

awesome for people who have yet to discover youtube?

Looks WAY bettter than YouTube, though. BTW any recommendations from anyone on how to best capture these?

ClintBartonWannabe 2008-10-28 01:24:33 PM
Only one Kate Bush?
No The Unforgiven? (Okay they are fairly obscure but after seeing the video I went out and bought their cassette, still one of my favorites 23 years later)

More like "Every video ever made that we feel like giving you access to".

/Mtv - MisfeasanceTV (Thesaurus entry for Fail)

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2008-10-28 01:24:49 PM
they only have up 4 devo videos. so, every video, yeah, not so much
