No shiat, and if the polls don't improve we may invade New Jersey.

People conspire that the gas prices will drop like a rock before the election... people conspire that we will bomb a country before the election.

Oh, you mean both actually happened?

Pfft, unconfirmed.

It said that "American soldiers" who had emerged from helicopters "attacked a civilian building under construction and fired at workmen inside, causing eight deaths".

They were probably shooting their nailguns at the helicopters.

Why would they want to punish themselves?

Why should the Polish have anything to do with this?

netweavr: Pfft, unconfirmed.

If history is any guide, the soldiers most likely didn't even know they were in Syria.

Hey, at least they didn't green the al-jazeera source.

The Iraq War is destined to become the war for the Middle East.

Would like to see more details here... and it's not like we are opening up a new front of the war. There has been a lot of activity on that border all along... if the bad guys are hiding just across the border in Syria I have no problem with a few operations to nab them.

Hopefully they got whoever they were targeting at least.

BBC is not exactly the National Enquirer. I'm sure other sources will start chiming in soon.

Just another start of the work week in the foreign devil land and out looking for something to kill.

Impossible, Syria is our friend in the war on terror. After all, we rendition terrorists there to be tortured so that we don't have to soil our hands.

Yeah, like something like this hasn't happened before.

I don't know, but the BBC is a pretty reputable source.

By Tuesday, the administration will conveniently release a tape by bin laden.

It's on MSNBC (new window), although it isn't getting a huge headline.

It's October, and yet this isn't a surprise.

It'll be interesting to see what we officially say about it - all we know to date is the Syrian side of the story. It'll also be interesting to see Syria's response.

It was ok that those men were killed... but a woman? God forbid that should happen. As everyone knows, woman are more important than men.

So this is stretching it a little bit, but you wouldn't mind if the Mexican police crossed the border to catch a criminal, and ended up shooting 8 Americans? Or if some Royal Canadian Mounted Police rode south after someone trying to smuggle some bud, and ended up shooting some innocent bystanders? Or if Russian special forces intruded on that little island to catch a fugitive, and ended up killing some Americans? Or, ummm, if the sea people crawled up on Hawaii and killed a few people?

dukeblue219: There has been a lot of activity on that border all along... if the bad guys are hiding just across the border in Syria I have no problem with a few operations to nab them.

Attacking a sovreign nation just to kill a couple of bad guys is kind of overkill.

Unless you'd be fine with Mexico launching airstrikes against our border towns to kill a couple of people who've been assisting the drug cartels in their country.

Isn't this in line with Obama's policy? Tracking people over borders (admittedly, he was talking about Pakistan)?

O'course, not so sure he'd be down with the killing of a load of construction workers (and someone's wife) but meh.

AnnoyingKidNextDoor 2008-10-26 05:07:02 PM
Just a raid it says. Not a full blown "attack."

Vangor [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 05:07:29 PM
So...US Forces crossed the border into Syria in order to fire upon 8 civilian workers inside of a construction zone?

I would imagine if we had wanted to ignite foreign tensions by crossing into Syria, our target might be a little more militant, obvious, etc..

They'll do the usual. Basically, piss and moan that the US is coming across the border for the express purpose of killing innocent women and children. In other words, exactly what they're doing now.

Even as stretched as our forces seem now to be, Syria can't do one single serious thing in response.

that1guy77 [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 05:08:14 PM
The AP is reporting that Syria says (new window) we attacked NEAR the border. Can journalists get shiat straight?

Syria won't react (they didn't do anything when Israel bombed them back in the summer). Pentagon will be quiet. As always.

If we wanted to start a war, yes. Igniting tensions, this is just the thing. Especially if we fark about for a bit before making an official apology, and then make it sound very insincere.
