Robert H. Schuller had turned over the church ministries and the "Hour of Power" TV program to his son during an emotional service at the Crystal Cathedral in January 2006.

Unnamed sources say that the recent schism was due to an argument over an individual named "Freddie", and whether Schuller's son was to receive the traditional "Golden Shower" after the program.

/ok, so it's a stretch, but any excuse to go Zappa

He is that which is neither living nor dead, walking the earth, lulling the unsuspecting with a smooth voice that drips charisma and melted butter, seeking the blood and wallets of the innocent...

I always thought the Crystal Cathedral should be filled with Amazonian wildlife. Bring on the howler monkeys and parrots.

Didn't see any mention of creationism in the article.
Does one think God create the animals first and the other think that God create Adam then the animals, then Eve?

I have seen a video of a wedding held at the Crystal Cathedral. It was a lesson on over-the-top wedding ceremonies. The aisle was raised you about 4 feet on platforms, there were a ridiculous amount of attendants, and the topper was the angel who flew, yes flew, from the balcony down to the stage to give the couple their rings. The minister declares the wedding "holy" since "an angel brought the rings." I laughed so hard I almost pooped.

And yeah, there is no implication of Creationism either here, or in any other article I can find. My gut tells me there was probably an argument over television time and business practices and the father got vindictive and kicked his son out of the business.

Slightly more detailed article from the LA Times.

Schuller said in a statement read to some 450 congregants Saturday by church president Jim Coleman that he and his son, Robert A. Schuller, "have different ideas as to the direction and the vision for this ministry."

You'd think there would be someone in authority, someone infallible, who could tell these folks how they are supposed to be running their show. I guess he's not talking. Maybe he's out of town.

Re: Creationisms importants to other diciplines

I want to take this opportunity to remind any would be creation science detractors that, before mocking the living shiat out of this unconscious whore of a cliche and joining in another tired clusterfark of dinosaur cum jesus images etc, that, creationist arguments, which are usually yolked to christians, are also important to those of us who espouse the belief that the human race was created by aliens.

In most other areas, the christian and the 'ufos made us in a test tube' have antithetical beleifs. However, we both rely on the posibility that some intelligent force propelled our current evolutionary status into existence. Before dismissing this posibitlity, take a minute to consider what life would be like without thinking aliens invented us.

Thank you.

This is why we need Dominionism to succeed in its effort to co-opt the government. We could then dictate the correct theology from the top down, and deny religious freedom to dissenters and unbelievers.

You know, I find this interesting as a complete outsider. Before I went to the article, I bet myself it was the son who was the more right wing and that the old man was a more wily operator, maybe suggesting things to people that they are already thinking but having the horse-sense not to become a spokesman for some right-ish fringe belief.

It's been years since I channel surfed past the Crystal Cathedral and I doubt I've seen son and father combined speak for more than five or ten minutes but the son always struck me as a clone of daddy but with more of a wolf's glint to him.

/wonder if I'm right or wrong on this.

"Hour of Power"

All pomp. No substance. Ostentatious windbaggery, papering over starched, empty ritual.

Pious, pompous, and parasitically philandering.

Psychopathic, and pathologically parasitical.

Papering over parasitically pretentious, pandering, panhandling.

And people are still buying into this bullsh*t?

Why?

This is an excellent point. The paradocks, which is of bad grammer having yet having been alien made (cuz alienz is smart), is thought to be conclusive disproof of alien intervention. The reason the seemingly irrelevant connection between intelligence, be it alien created or naturally occuring, and the ability to not only type, but to also proof read what one types, provides only seemingly damning proof against alien intervention is because elementary school marmes, particularly of the male hatingn varirty, are aliens.
Siince school marmes-- and other A-holes who harp on the abiity to spell-- are aliens, its axiomatic that this type, the grammer/spelling nazi, is trying to fix some mistake in our dna.
in other words, you're an alien, and no your cover is blown.

My parents used to watch them. When I was visiting I was saying how tv preachers only talk about money. Their response was if I did not like it don't watch, so I spent the hour surfing the internet. I could still hear the tv in the other room. All I heard was we are building this, we need money for that, etc. I never heard anything about religion. Nothing out of the bible. I found that very disturbing.

I went to school with junior, met his parents and knew one of his sisters. The sister was a fairly talented musician and tried hard to not be typed as senior's daughter but as her own person. She could be a little biatchy sometimes but generally pretty nice. Her mother was too sweet and you always wondered about her sincerity. It went downhill really fast from there. Senior started the church from scratch and was hailed by church leaders as a miracle worker and guru. He well and truly believed every word of it. Junior tried hard to be intellectually superior to senior but never quite made it - that in spite of the fact that senior is as deep as a puddle of dog piss on a sidewalk. The college musical groups were always invited to perform at the Crystal Cathedral (it was brand new then) while on the 'western tour.' The only thing that impressed me was the huge (one could definitely say ostentatious) Ruffatti pipe organ. It not only had an enormous amount of power but it had a lot more tonal color than either senior or junior. They are supposedly associated with the Reformed Church denomination but it could easily be argued that Schuller has created a bit of a cult there. Not sure what will happen to that church when senior dies, especially now that he has disinherited junior (ecclesiastically speaking.)
