Ice Bar in Reykjavik. No cover charge, $10 shot of vodka!

"Orlando has all kinds of adventures," Turner said. "This is an adventure into the Arctic."

No, it's an adventure into someone's walk in freezer.
Give me whiteouts and flesh eating polar bears, then you can call it arctic.

I'd like to go to one of those ice hotel things some day ... this seems kind of silly and half assed, though. Me? I like a full ass.

Eh, I'll just wait a few months to drink booze in a freezing room.

$35 cover charge to be let into a bar for 45 minutes? This thread deserves the dumbass tag for people who actually pay that.

27 degrees is considered cold? Hell, that's jacket weather.

Drongo3 [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 01:48:51 PM
There's a bar in Beverly Hills that has a "Martini Vault." It's so cold they give you floor-length fur coats and you still freeze your ass off. I don't think there's a cover but the drinks are absurdly expensive. Of course, so is everything in Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills, not where I want to be!

Just kickin' it in the Ice Hole.

I think I'll just keep my vodka in the freezer and enjoy (responsibly, of course) my drink, on the rocks, in front of my fireplace. 27 degrees?? Heck it's colder than that 6 months out of the year where I grew up.

We used to have contests when I worked at UDF at who could last the longest in the "Hardening Room" (-40) in street clothes.

/Also used to send the n00bs in there to "Mop the floor.. That was always funny.

theflatline 2008-10-26 02:25:32 PM
Wow,

A 35 dollar cover and you have to put more clothes on?

I can spend that at a good happy hour with a lady friend and get us both sufficiently lubricated that our clothes come off.

The only thing remotely interesting about orlando is the Blizzard Beach water park with the visiting latin girls in their tiny bikinis.

Sounds like a great place for a party.

Too bad I live in Austin where NOBODY is having a halloween party besides the cattle walk on 6th street. Even Alamo Draft house is a total bust. Rocky horror, Thriller dance class. WTF!! Is the economy so shiatty that even charities aren't doing a pay for the plate type event. For gods sake people, it's on a FRIDAY NIGHT! THIS REALLY SUCKS! Does anyone in or around Austin know of ANYTHING? I finally have the chance to get away from my kids and have some fun and there's nothing out there!! Calgon take me away!

FLORIDA. Need I say more?

I used to live in Whorelando. Yes, a city can whore itself out. Orlando has a few theme parks and at one point one of them had something called The Key West Experience. That might be cool in, say, Chigago, but, ummm, the real Key West is also in Florida! Would you make a fake New Orleans park in the same state as the real New Orleans??

desidog: What a gimmick. High power bill, and not a lot of return customers....they'll probably go bust soon enough.

Agreed and disagreed. Yes, the cooling load must be horrendous, especially in Florida (tag surprisingly absent). I wonder how long before the eco-wackos start picketing? However, as this is in a tourist market, the need for return customers is minimal. (I knew a cat who played steel drums in Waikiki. He probably only had about 30 minutes worth of songs, but no one ever stopped to listen longer than that.) Plus, compare this to "Downtown Disney" and it starts to make sense.

WTF is up with the headline "How to get there: Honesdale, Pennsylvania"?

Just out of curiosity, do US tourists make the "V for victory" sign in all their snapshots, like the Japanese do when they visit here?

(just teasing, nice picture, glad you had fun)

At Icebar Orlando, patrons don't need to order drinks on the rocks."

How did someone miss this mistake? Seriously. The only similarity between these two states is that they are both polling blue, aside from that, they have nothing in common. Especially as it relates to alcohol.

Also, for $35/person I can rent out the local ice rink for a few hours and set up some tables and a mini-bar. It would also be exponentially more eco-friendly and a hell of a lot more entertaining watching the drunk kids trying to walk on the ice.

There's a sweet place in Queensland, NZ where I was introduced to this. I believe it's called 5 Below or something (Celsius, probably).

20$(NZ) cover, includes one vodka mixed drink. That's like $15 US. And we drank out of cups made of ice. and then we got to smash them on the floor when we were done. And they had ice sculpture animals we sat on. And, and and...

I'd go again.

They just opened one of these in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay.

You have to pay a $35 cover charge, then pay for a 2 drink Minimum @ $30 each. You are limited to 20 minutes. WOW! What Fun!!!

TibrisXVII: 27 degrees is considered cold? Hell, that's jacket weather.

It was 15 degrees the other day when I went to work, and I didn't even bring a jacket. Jeans and a fleece sweater.

Then again, Florida people probably get frostbite at 55 or so.

Just got back from Tampa yesterday for the World Series.
They start wearing jackets when it hits 65. And I don't mean windbreakers either.

Actually I live in Florida, and the people who get cold the easiest here are the northerners that come down here to escape the cold and quickly lose their tolerance for the cold.

Most true Floridians consider a longsleeve shirt a coat.

A good sign of a transplant in Florida is if you own heavey weather gear, natives do not buy it.

Also, most baseball fans are from the north.

I grew un between Florida, Louisiana in the heat, and Colombia South America. I know hot and cold.

We had one of these fail recently in the city of Richmond, Virginia after only 2 months in business. I can't believe that our majority black population couldn't sustain a club that offered the novelty of standing around in the cold.

Also, You can find me in the club!
