Yeah, well... we can't be giving handouts to any poor loser who comes along with his hand out. We've got billionaire bankers to bail out.

I've talked to some of these victims on the telephone at work, they usually want bill extensions from us.

Despite being 100km away from any area even remotely affected.

Michael Brown has been making the rounds and loving the missteps of FEMA during the Ike aftermath.

Giving the poor money would give them incentive to live...we can't have them spreading their poor genes.

Wait a minnit. I thought only po black folks who voted for Democrats in La. got abused by FEMA? This is Texas, they should all be driving new cadilliacs and living in new split level condos from Bush, shouldn't they?

Linto 2008-10-26 11:04:54 AM
What is it with FEMA and hurricanes? They came to my town after the Indiana floods this summer and did a really good job helping people from what I saw. One of them even told my mom how to work the system to get money to fix a well that may not have have even been damaged by the flood.

ha-ha-guy 2008-10-26 11:05:14 AM
Well everyone got biatchy because we gave money to the Katrina refugees and they misused it, so to placate us FEMA tighted the restrictions and now we biatch about that. shiat happens.

Also as others have pointed out, just because the request was submitted does not mean it was legit.

I share an office building and let me tell you their rep for incompetence is well earned. I have found folders in the parking lot with peoples claim forms and filled with their personal info. Got on the elevator on the ground floor. A Femur (our cute little name for them) asked "Which way it was headed?" "Umm it only goes up from here." "Really?".

/six days to get water to the Superdome.

Why would this suprise anyone , Well maybe someone thats a waterhead. It's not just FEMA it's anything that the govenment does... They can not do anything well but spend money and FEMA has spent tons of money just not in the right place.

Looking forward to health care run by the same people.

Yeah? Then there's those like my sister whose house was nearly broken in half. the FEMA numbskull comes out & says..."It doesn't look too bad!"

In the meantime, the folks from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina would like to know what in the hell is going on with their applications.

Six weeks? Try three years.

You don't understand... It's because its not the poor black folk that FEMA isn't giving away bank cards... In a mixed (mostly Hispanic and Caucasian demographic such as this, we can't cry racism if they deny us...)

/which is Racism in its broadest form.

But, the government needs to wipe my ass and give me my health insurance.

Your point is so apt it's scary.

The Laughing Kookaburra: Wonder what the holdup is? (new window)

From the two-year-old article:

The report says FEMA didn't even try to verify the identity of people who applied for aid by phone and says FEMA's fraud controls are "weak or nonexistent."

Yep, there are always asshats out there willing to abuse any system. Nope, that doesn't explain a government agency's incompetence after years of research, effort, and forewarning on the subject.

This isn't FEMA's first rodeo, after all.

If you're going to be a stereotype, could you at least try to be entertaining? It's not like there's anyone left who would actually take your blather seriously.

I lost a crapload of food and stuff from my fridge along with other expenses. Being that I make very little money (I'm a graduate student with high rent so I can live closer to the university so I don't have to use a car - either way would cost about the same), I could actually use some aid, but I'm not even eligible. I'd hate to think of the predicaments in which some people found themselves, because I actually consider myself quite lucky.

I don't give a fark what your politics are, if you can't see that this nation's government needs to be removed, you are blind. This is a total failure and a complete disgrace (again). These billionaires in power need to be strung up and gutted. Publicly. Televised.

Vote against your incumbent in Nov., no matter what capital letter they have behind their name.

The secret is that the FEMA anti-American administrators are only giving out relief money to REGISTERED REPUBLICANS.

If you don't understand that, then you'll be confused at the illogical "HATE AMERICA" policy of all traitorous Republican Criminal Pervert Party policy decisions.

Reminds me of the IRS and people trying to get EIC. If the instructions on the form say to put your name on the form as it appears on your SSA card, you probably shouldn't use a nickname. If it says to put your middle initial on the form, then you probably should.

Just a thought for some of you.

If you fill out your form completely right and still run into a delay, it is still some how your fault.

FEMA sucks. Plain and simple. Maybe its just if you are in the south though - I haven't heard people from the flooding up north complain. Friends had 3 feet of water in their raised home in Lafitte Parish afer Ike - FEMA told them they weren't eligible for aid because the house was liveable.

Gridlock 2008-10-26 12:39:31 PM
hokiebuckeye: I still haven't gotten my FEMA check.

Well, perhaps they are limiting the relief to "Registered Republicans THAT HAVE MADE PARTY DONATIONS OF (X dollars) AMOUNT".

// They don't have any incentive to reward fellow criminals that don't reward them.

I've put in the initial application, but I won't get my chance for formal rejection until I find out what my insurance will pay and how much the roofer will charge.

/minor damage fortunately
//but the roof will need replacing- it won't stand up to another big storm

Wow, that's awesome.

When a tornado hit my hometown (northern Ohio), my Mom didn't say anything bad about FEMA. BUt down here in Houston after IKE, the same can't be said.

we aren't nearly as good at being victims as the people in New Orleans.

Did FEMA actually do their job in northern Ohio? As opposed to pulling this beaurocratic crap down here in southern LA and TX?

They tried telling my friends that there would be no aid for hotels since their house was liveable - even though there was (at that point) literally no way to get to the house except by boat... That turned into a mess. State of Louisiana actually finally got involved and put up part of the money, and somehow got FEMA to put the rest of it up.

Witchydiva: Did FEMA actually do their job in northern Ohio?

They seemed to, BUT, there were less people with damage, and it was pre Katrina (that tornado was fall of 2001)

Mom got $1500 because her power was out for 3 days. Pretty cheap, but I don't blame her for taking the money

Nice. I'd have taken it, too. I need to call my friends in Houston that didn't have power for 20+ days and see what that got (I'm curious).

Hey retards, move away from hurricane prone areas. The only groups with legitimate reasons to be there are oil companies and they don't request aid.

And the companies that service the oil companies.

And the business that support the employees (hospitals, restaraunts, wal mart/target/etc)
