It's nice to hear about a pre-teen that isn't all self-absorbed. Cool kid.

Pocket Ninja [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 09:56:33 AM
Hero? The kid sounds like a community organizer, and I know from listening to McCain, Palin, Romney, and Guiliani that community organizers are dangerous elements in our society looking to operate under the umbrella of their parent group, ACORN, to work with domestic terrorists (as long as they don't bomb abortion clinics) to spread Marxism and socialism throughout this great land. I hope somebody's got an eye on this kid.

What's the point of giving to charity anyways? They only have to legally give like 15 cents of every dollar towards the charitable cause.

2 billion dollars went to NOLA scum from Katrina that wasted it all on stupid shiat. And the Red Cross pays their CEO in the $300,000 a year range.

Not sure why this made the news... my son just turned 10 and about half the birthday parties he gets invited to these days ask for donations to community agencies instead of presents.

Of course, this is Fark, so the criminal-elitist element of society will be lauded while us regular, six-packers will be repressed.

My son's last b'day party was similar. In lieu of presents to him we asked that presents be given to the Salvation Army.

And we're not religious...and we didn't call a press conference. This is actually very common.

We agreed to this model as I refuse to let anymore toys into this house unless toys go out (and they're donated). My son currently likes all his toys.

Charities only have to give a certain amount to the actual cause. Good charities give as much as possible. Bad ones dump most of the money into "administrative costs", etc.

Good example of a BAD one: United Way.

Two requirements for BBB Charity Accountability.(link (new window))
8. Spend at least 65% of its total expenses on program activities.
Formula for Standard 8:
Total Program Service Expenses should be at least 65%
Total Expenses

9. Spend no more than 35% of related contributions on fund raising. Related contributions include donations, legacies, and other gifts received as a result of fund raising efforts.
Formula for Standard 9:
Total Fund Raising Expenses should be no more than 35%
Total Related Contributions

That is nearly 80% spent on Program Activities... Is that bad for some reason?

Is it still satire after the 5000th iteration? Not trying to beat on Pocket Ninja, but that "community activist" schtick has been done to death.

Don't get me wrong, I love satire. It's one of my favorite literary techniques. But I wouldn't reread (or republish) the same satire over and over and over and over again, as it really makes it lose its edge.

Satire

-noun
1. the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.
3. a literary genre comprising such compositions.

Operation Bootstrap - Stevens Point (Arrowhead United Way)

/BBB is satire. Might as well be a Federal regulatory agency, as it Represents those it claims to oversee, thus preventing a bona-fide organization from representing customers.

Temescal Is it still satire after the 5000th iteration?

While there is something to be said for original content, it is pathetically amusing to see how idiotic and irrational certain statements, such as those disparaging Obama's experience as a community organizer, are by droning them on into the ground. Part of the comedy with those statements is their generally broad application by lack of thought.
