Wow, that's a stretch. Fox News is going to have a rude awakening when Obama kicks McCain's ass.

They must be betting on a 10% Bradley Effect if they think Minnesota and Oregon are toss-ups. Heh.

Just today the Denver paper said Obama was up by 8 or 10% in Colorado.

I think all these attempts to show McCain close or even leading is a good thing. The one thing Democrats cannot do this time is get complacent or worse, not bother voting thinking it's a lock.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 12:03:04 AM
The game isn't over 'till the voting machines have been calibrated.

They can move 5% either way before fraud is able to be easily spotted. Couple that with what will be called "The Obama Effect" (forget Bradley, not everything has a precedent) and the proven ability of the GOP to intimidate certain voters away from the polls on the day - plus the possibility that, as usual, young people won't bother to actually vote on the day...

Well, although I hope Obama wins, I suggest not counting the poultry before the proverbial.

The one state that Reagan didn't win is a toss-up in this election. Sure.

OR? MN? PA? IA? are swing states?

MI? The state McCain pulled out of is a fkn SWING STATE?

...if your campaign pulls out of a state, it's a lock, one way or the other, and MI is no GOP lock.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-10-26 12:07:16 AM
I love how North Carolina and Indiana solid GOP for them, but PA, OR and MI are tossups.

Orwell would be proud.

There is zero chance that Oregon will go for McCain this year.

Well, at least we now know which states they plan to do disgustingly obvious illegal things in.

They didn't cheat, just look at this poll!

I was thinking the same thing. I hate get caught up in all the conspiratorial stuff, but if they were going to argue to dawn of hell about possible illegal voting they would need a base to start from.

Although, I'm kinda hoping this Ashley Todd fiasco spells their doom here.

paulseta: plus the possibility that, as usual, young people won't bother to actually vote on the day...

I really encourage you to visit the US Census website (new window) and review historical data for voter registration and voting.

The trick is NOT to get a youngster to vote - once they are registered, you can expect turnout in the 70-85% range (lower for boring election cycles, higher for cycles like this one; we may very well get high 80s to 90% turnout of registered voters). Voting turnout for registered voters 18-29 is very comparable to other age ranges. The trick is to get the youngster registered to vote - that's where apathy/establishment distrust/unfamiliarity with the registration process needs to be combated.

Apparently, "toss-up" means ±15% to Fox.

Not freakin' likely.

And on this map he STILL loses.

Michigan is a tossup?

WTF are these people smoking? The poll/election results in 2000 and 2004 tended towards the Democrats. The fact that the Republicans have been pandering to their base rather than trying to bring in independent voters all but ensures that they'll lose Michigan.

Well, if you go with conspiracy angle, it would allow the Republican Party to have something to go with when they scream "voter fraud!" on November 5th...and drag us all down into the pit of despair they've found themselves in.

thats the only thing I can come up with. but damn...its not like the info isn't out there.

meh..then again I nearly got into a fight the other day when someone told me to "stfu" because i said its not the fault of Pelosi that the stack market is in freefall.

They'll believe anything.

Exactly how I see it, with NC and FL as big maybes...but they won't make a difference in the end.

Here in NC, the Obama people have a huge get-out-the-vote program. In my county 25% of the registered voters have already voted. The line to vote was an hour long when I went in on Wednesday morning.

There was also a big registration drive going on at the various social services agencies here. Statewide, 420K new Democrats registered, and 188K Republicans. (260K new voters are "unaffiliated") That ratio is pretty consistent across all age groups, but it was mostly people under 40 who registered.

The funny thing is, if people had seen that map 30 years ago, people would be outraged that a black guy got 183 electoral votes.

40 years ago they'd be outraged that a black guy's picture was at the top.

Oh yeah,

Here's a link where Bill O'Reilly claims the Neilson ratings should be investigated for fraud because there have been wild swings between MSNBC and Fox News ratings. Link (Pops- 2:20 in).

The crazy is only just beginning.

I heard that up here in Michigan, we managed to register 98% of eligible citizens. Anyone who thinks this election is going to have poor voter turnout when it comes to Obama is simply fooling themselves. Of course, one of the reasons McCain may have abandoned Michigan is because we got such a high registration percentage.

Iowa as a swing state? McCain didn't even campaign here for the caucuses. Last poll I saw had Obama leading McCain 55 to 39.

Not to mention Michigan independents/undecideds are decided about one thing: they're not impressed with the campaign's public abandonment of the state. Pragmatically, sure it may have been necessary, but hey, independents are high maintenance. Ignore them and they'll vote for the guy who buys them flowers and holds shiny rallies.
