Nice job Joe! The sweetest part was when he said "is that a real question?"

Alacritous [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 12:41:04 PM
Wow. Those questions were worded in the most inflammatory way imaginable. Joe Handled himself well.

Bladel [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 12:42:55 PM
Wow.

Were those questions sent in to the station via LGF or Freepers?

I was half expecting a "birth certificate" or "whitey" question in there...

MisterTweak 2008-10-25 12:43:14 PM
"Why, Rush, you look stunning in that dress!"

Teela [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 12:48:38 PM
Put this up against ANY Palin interview and tell me you want some average hockey mom "one heartbeat away from the presidency".

006andahalf 2008-10-25 12:56:54 PM
The Marx question was particularly infuriating. I wish that he had ripped into her more about the presumption that we're moving toward some sort of leftist boogeyman form of 'socialism'.

This is just a fine demonstration of the overwhelming influence of the big-bad left-skewed media.

Richard Pye 2008-10-25 12:59:52 PM
I have to say that Joe Biden has nice hair.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:01:05 PM
So...is "What papers do you read?" still considered an unfair "gotcha" question?

eddyatwork [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:02:21 PM
I was impressed by how well he handled himself.

DarkJohnson [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:02:31 PM
Yeah, he stood his ground - just wish he didn't blink so much, damn eye lift is too tight.

I do like the trend in cute (ignorant) right wing journalists. I'll bet she likes donkey punched.

A Dark Evil Omen 2008-10-25 01:07:40 PM
Lionel Mandrake: So...is "What papers do you read?" still considered an unfair "gotcha" question?

Yes. "Aren't you a Communist?" is fine because, of course, anyone anyone would every ask that question of could legitimately BE one. YOU could be a Communist and not even know it! OOOH SCARY.

John Paul Jones [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:17:51 PM
The librul media strikes again!!1!

Seriously, these are "When did you stop beating your wife?" questions. They're blatant, scurrilous, fabricated attacks disguised as questions.

If the tables were turned, they'd be questions like

"Governor Palin, how do you feel about Senator McCain molesting Piper? Doesn't that worry you?"

Girl From The North Country [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:21:53 PM
At the end he basically just refuses to play along any more. This is an instant classic.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:22:46 PM
What the hell was that? Who is this woman?

Why teh libs afraid to answer legitimate questions from a citizen ?

Ok, just watched the whole thing - I honestly think Pat Robertson himself would have given a less biased interview.

sens [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:27:08 PM
I posted this in a redlit thread about the same video -- I'm reposting it here because this interview just infuriates me.

It's just such bullshiat to phrase all of her questions that way, injecting her own bias and accusations into them.

"Isn't it true, Senator, that Barack Obama wants to quadruple everyone's taxes and sacrifice the first born son of every American couple to Satan? The Muslim Satan?"

"No, it's not true."

"Fair enough. But isn't it true, Senator, that Barack Obama is a secret gay terrorist pedophile communist philandering racist tax cheat?"

"No, it's not true."

"Ok, fair enough, my mistake."

You just can't frame questions that way -- there's softball questions, and then there's the opposite of that, like Barbara West's questions, which were all like lobbing a grenade at Biden and daring him to catch it. What a biatch.

incendi [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:28:19 PM
DamnYankees: Ok, just watched the whole thing - I honestly think Pat Robertson himself would have given a less biased interview.

O'Reilly gave Obama a less biased interview. If there was ever an indicator you should voluntarily end your career as a cross-dressing news anchor, this is it.

PacersJAM3s 2008-10-25 01:28:34 PM
I don't really see a problem with the questions being asked.

I kind of worry when people get upset about a politician being grilled during an interview. Sure the questions being asked were pointed and mostly hypothetical rhetoric, but the fact is a lot of people do have the concerns that this woman was asking.

I think he answered them very well, but at the same time, I don't like putting a politician up on a pedestal.

/For the record, I will be voting for Obama/Biden on Monday.

ArbitraryConstant 2008-10-25 01:30:14 PM
Was this staged?

The questions are loaded, but she's so bad at the ambush I'm having trouble believing it's real.

Starting an interview out with "Aren't you embarassed by..." is simply piss-poor journalism, in pretty damn near any situation.

It reminds me of some of that satirically over-the-top "Better Know A District" Q&A that Colbert used to do before the House wised up to him.

Oh, but you can. It's called Republican politics. Basically, the Rove/Libby strategy has been, "if we say it enough, it becomes true." And in the minds of the average Joe (Plumber, Sixpack, whatever), the sound bite is what sticks. "Aren't you embarassed about ACORN, an organization to which Obama has ties?" computes as "Obama worked for ACORN, and he should be ashamed to show his face in public after they committed voter fraudd at his direction."

Sorry, that's just the way it works. The Republicans will fling poo, the Democrats will stir up the unwashed masses, and we'll see how it all shakes out in November. Frankly, I'd rather deal with the masses than the oilgarchs.

/And don't nobody tell me the Democrats do it too - they don't. They whine, they complain, they talk about hope and change and the same old same old... but the Democrats never, ever do this kind of obvious crap. They're too wimpy.

Edsel 2008-10-25 01:39:18 PM
Yeah, there's that liberal media bias rearing its ugly head again. Give me a farking break.

Way to go Biden. I'd LOVE to see Palin get brutalized like this in an interview.

Tabatha Static: It reminds me of some of that satirically over-the-top "Better Know A District" Q&A that Colbert used to do before the House wised up to him.

I wonder... If there are a lot of new, first-term reps after this election, will Colbert be able to find a few who don't know what he's up to and get a fresh batch of interviews? That would be cool.

/"Let's put them up on the map!" [indistinguishably small dot fills in]

It's even piss-poor attack interviewing. You don't quote talking points verbatim, he'll have a response ready. You try for little concessions, that you can then exaggerate when they guy's gone.

No. Journalism should be like law. In a court of law, if you knowingly bring a foolish lawsuit- you and the lawyer get fined.

The people you interview should not be put upon some giant pedestal; however, they are not prisoner in Gitmo.

She's having trouble with the fact that her questions fail to get a rise out of him. That's all.

She did put some work into writing those questions - and she has follow-up questions at the ready. Aside from her extraordinary bias, she's not a bad journalist - trying for hardball, which is fine.

Doesn't look rehearsed or stage in the least, to me.

quickdraw [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:52:23 PM
She was doing her job. She gave Biden a chance to answer to these ridiculous charges that nobody else will say to his face. Yes she's an idiot but somebody has to ask the questions the idiots want answered.

/think of the idiots.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 01:53:11 PM
I for one would like to know a few things about Obama also.

For example. If he just finished burning a school for handicapped children to the ground and decided to beat his wife with a baseball bat, would he remember to keep the label pointed up ?

As a citizen I don't want to put my potential leaders on a pedestal and I need to consider everything before casting my vote.

Hee hee. Funny troll is funny.

It's nowhere near as unreasonable as when CNN asked McCain's spokesman what foreign policy experience Palin has, and he couldn't answer, so McCain bailed out of a Larry King interview. CNN was clearly being unfair there, unlike this very professional interview with Biden.

Barbra West is the best!
www.wftv.com

"For the past 16 years, I have served as health reporter and anchor for WFTV's news at noon and 5:30.

I have covered stories of people, politics and medical breakthroughs. My work has taken me across the country and around the world. From Washington, D.C. I covered the inauguration of President Bush and the impeachment of President Clinton.

When Hillary Clinton attempted to reform our health care system, I traveled to Canada to examine the Canadian national health care system as a possible model for the U.S."

She's precious!

It wouldn't faze her... she's got the whole "I reject your reality and substitute one of my own choosing" thing down pat, now.

Interviewer: "Ms. Palin, is it true you are a woman?"
Palin: "I'm glad you asked that question. I'd like to use this as an opportunity to talk about Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes on hard working American families, and also how he likes to kill babies."

HA!

I am married to Wade West, an international media consultant to politicians, professionals and organizations.

I would love to see a list of the politicians he's consulted.

Interesting, that must've be the other Canada where she examined that in because our health insurance is administered provincially. There are federal regulations and such, but the insurance card in my pocket bears the mark 'Ontario Health Insurance Plan'.

After reading some of the apologists, I'm coming back to JPJ for the ^this^

I'm sorry, but she didn't even give him a chance to bring meaningful debate to the issue, or to address any specifics of his campaign and agenda, instead she had him defending himself against complete misrepresentations. Joe McCarthy had more tact than this biatch.

Oh, and I sent part of your post to her email, JPJ.

In Mein Kampf, Hitler writes "Particularly in the field of propaganda, we must never let ourselves be led by aesthetes." Should we start rounding up teh joos now?
