Would have been more awesome, if Zep was covering the Chipmunk song.

I'm willing to bet that the Bon Jovi cover sounds remarkably like the original.

The movie soundtrack sold 886,000 copies?

What is wrong with people?

So...

1. get rights to older rock songs
2. play records at 45 instead of 33 1/3
3. profit
C. ruin two things at the same time

Somewhat on topic....

Coming home from the 242 gig in Helsinki last night, me and a friend stopped in at a local kebab/pizza place. I was wondering if I was tripping when I heard what sounded like a "chipmunk" Mr Lonely (ala Bobby Vinton) until the thunk thump started and some douche starts rambling(hesitate to call it singing). I've heard a lot of fail in my years but that really took the cake.

I never got what the big deal about Marley was. It's not that I don't like him or his music, it's just that... he's just another musician to me. Nothing particularly special about his stuff. Of course, I didn't grow up a hippie, nor have I done an insane amount of drugs in my life, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I loved the Chipmunks.

Before Hollywood turned them into shiat eating CGI monstrosities, that is.

Funny, I'm listening to Melvin and the Squirrels right now.

The Chipmunks have been covering rock songs for many years. This new CD is not a new concept at all. I must have 7 or 8 Chipmunk rock albums around here. A particular favorite of mine is their cover of "Whip It." No irony here. Move along.

I can't remember which comedian said this previously, but if you slow the Chipmunk stuff so their voices are normal it sounds like the humans have been replaced by Demons.

As a kid I used to get a kick out of playing my parent's records at the wrong rpm. They said I was ruining their music, but I disagreed.

/also watched the Chipmunks

Patton Oswalt.

Three normal sounding guys being yelled at by a demon from the 9th circle of hell... or something like that.

The powers that be won't allow Led Zeppelin songs for Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but will for a Chipmunk album. Really?

Of course they would never sell their songs for movie/tv/etc, until Cadillac wrote the check.

I still love Led Zeppelin.

Listen to some other Reggae music for a while... he had a VERY unique sound that sets him apart from most of the other artists, and made him FAR more palatable on the american/European ear. He tended to follow a more flowing harmony and have smoother tones which appeal to us more than the harsh, jarring sounds of other artists in the same field.

A lot of reggae lately tries to imitate this sound, to varying degrees of success. Frankly, I think Marley had his own style, and it was more mellow than a lot of the other bands of the time, hence his popularity. Also, the whole rebelling openly against an obviously oppressive system with POT helped too, and still does. He is kind of like Che in that people will flock to him and pretend to get him, without ever understanding the first thing he meant. I do not have a problem with heroes or icons, but people should understand what the icon actually means, rather than going off the kid who was wearing one on TV.

Marley was cool, and he had a good sound... but his lyrics my friend, they are the reason why we love him.

Listen to "Natural Mystic" a few times, and then compare its symbolism to Buddhist philosophy, and you will find some very interesting parallels.

"There's a natural mystic blowing through the air;
If you listen carefully now you will hear.
This could be the first trumpet, might as well be the last:
Many more will have to suffer,
Many more will have to die - don't ask me why.

Things are not the way they used to be,
I wont tell no lie;
One and all have to face reality now.
though Ive tried to find the answer to all the questions they ask.
though I know its impossible to go livin through the past -
Dont tell no lie."

This could be the Rastafarian/Jamacian version of a Koan, if you try to sit down and ponder its meaning. Why does he say "don't ask me why?" when that is the obvious question to follow up those two statements?

Marley was more of a beat poet in that regard, and that's personally why I love him. I also really like E.E. Cummings, though if you ever have the chance to hear his own voice reading poems, skip it! He sounds.... nasally and kinda funny. :P
