I'm not a huge Oasis fan, but I gotta say, their new album is pretty damn good.

Never heard of them.

Roger that

I can't decide who I hate more Oasis or Coldplay, it's tough for me. Chris Martin obviously must die, but those two Gallagher brothers, I don't know, they make me very stabby. I guess I would say it's Oasis because they so desperately want to be more important than they are. I say off yourself if you really want to be important.

As long as we are measuring artists by sale, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua sold how many million records?

Hell, yeah.

Oasis is just "meh." My friends play them quite a bit - it neither bothers nor entertains me. I don't hate them...I nothing them.

Good luck to all those scalpers.

I never said they were irrelevant, just terrible and egotistical.

Hey wait a minute. How did the careers of British rockers become our problem? Good for Oasis. *golf clap*

So that WAS new Oasis I heard on the radio...

I heard it and immediately thought "Why the hell is this station playing Oasis? And why is it a song even I'm not familiar with?"

Had no idea. I hope it's good... Everything since Master Plan has been pretty ass-tacular.

Is it still 1996?

carmody 2008-10-24 08:22:31 PM
The new single is OK, but it never goes anywhere. Sounds like the beginning of a good pop tune...then just repeats and repeats. And the video is an insufferable pastiche of Beatles ripoffs...give it a rest already.

Oasis should call their next album Wonderbread.

I see what you did there.

self destruction 2008-10-24 08:54:57 PM
Oasis haven't been relevant since 1995, they wasted a great amount of talent becoming drudge attention whores when they were actually at one point the most important band in the UK. The very fact that we're discussing if they are relevant shows how very far they have fallen into obscurity.

serialkittenkiller 2008-10-24 10:07:52 PM
We all got together as a nation and discussed it and decided yes, they are irrelevant.

dholway [TotalFark] 2008-10-24 10:19:14 PM
The first two Oasis albums are great albums. The b-sides from this period tend to be great, too. After that, well....what else is on?

Yeah, that's harsh, but I just want to reiterate...the first two albums are great!

I still need to check out something other than What's the Story (Morning Glory)? I really like that album.

dugitman [TotalFark] 2008-10-24 10:32:37 PM
Oasis played the absolute loudest concert I have been to. Was a pretty good show. 1997? at Murat in Indianapolis. All amps to 11. The more obnoxious brother(Liam?) spat into the crowd and left about an hour in. The other one finished the show fronting and playing. I dunno, I liked their early stuff but I'm a sucker for 90s brit pop. Doves, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene--pretty much any wall o sound band. I'll probably buy(yes buy) the new one. Havent had any Oasis since the late 90s.

Dear Jerk 2008-10-24 11:53:32 PM
I like their music. I don't care who's an asshole because I never have to depend on them for a ride or loan them twenty dollars.

50 trillion McDonald's customers makes McDonald's relevant too.

Doesn't make it good though.

I really don't like any of these Brit-pop bands, but I'll give it up to Blur. At least they seem to have a sense of humor, not to mention actual songwriting talent. Coldplay and Oasis can jump off a cliff.

BStorm [TotalFark] 2008-10-25 12:43:41 AM
Right, because 500,000 is more than 867,000. Link (new window)

That having been said, it's easy to claim to have sold unpossible numbers of tickets when brokers are buying them by the truckload for resale at a handsome profit. Unless every ticket was sold to a different individual and verified as such, or there was no way to buy up blocks of tickets and then resell them later, I'm going to remain unimpressed.

Oasis sucks anyway.

Martstar 2008-10-25 01:08:33 AM
Danarchy84: I still need to check out something other than What's the Story (Morning Glory)? I really like that album.

Then pick up their first album, Definitely Maybe, which I'd say is arguably slightly better, a bit snottier and a bit less bloated, if those qualities are of any concern to you. After that, you may want to venture on to their third album, Be Here Now, which begins to veer toward the self-indulgent since they had become big stars on both sides of the pond. Still a pretty decent album. From there, you're on your own, since I haven't even listened to their later albums all that much....

Glenechocreek 2008-10-25 01:27:14 AM
Oasis wouldn't know a good song if it flew up their noses and died there.

Will pirate it just to give it a spin. That's the beauty of the internet - leagues of Suck are just a recycle bin away. You get to keep what you like.
