C'mon, this joke isn't funny, anymore!

I'd pay $10,000 to see that. Would that much money be better spent on a charity? Too bad...I want to see The Smiths again.

Yeah, right, sounds more like bigmouth strikes again to me. I'm guessing they started something they couldn't finish, and now it's just a miserable lie.

These things take time, of course, but I know it's over.

/Morrissey is worthless without Marr

Just wanted to come in here and profess my undying love for The Smiths before a bunch of monkeys came in to fling feces all over the thread.

This doesn't look like the Coachella valley to me.

nightfallcub 2008-10-24 04:27:34 PM
won't. ever. happen.

Morrissey is still all butt-hurt over the legal fight between him and Johnny Marr. If it wasn't for him and his huge ego, it would probably be a go.

Anyway, he's focusing on his new solo record coming out...

elemcee 2008-10-24 04:34:53 PM
I'm kinda torn. I don't want them to get up there and crap all over my memories just for a huge paycheck. But, that said, Morrissey does do some pretty decent versions of Smiths songs in his solo sets. But I just can't imagine him and Marr making up with Mike Joyce long enough to be in the same room with him, let alone play a show together . . .

Meh.

Franky, Mr. Shankly, that sounds pretty neat.

Dear god, anything but Coachella.

What did we do to be threatened like this?

danduran 2008-10-24 05:32:18 PM
Ain't gonna happen. Morrissey's got a new album due so he'll be focussing on that anyway.

Can one of you aging hipsters explain to me who The Smiths are?

Good. That way we can take care of multiple problems with a relatively small nuclear weapon.

That enough flinging, carmody?

Seriously, I don't get it. I came up at the same time as their heyday. Marr's talented, Morrissey is talented, if annoying. But man, every time I had to play a Smiths song from the current album on rotation (because there was no way in HELL that our program director wasn't going to put it in) I'd get multiple calls. New album by the Replacements? No calls. REM? Firehose? You name it, nobody reacted to anything but the Smiths, and that was only to request MORE of the damn stuff, and to criticize my choice of track.

In sum: y'all are obsessed. Hope you get your way.

/now, I'd LOVE m|a|r|r|s to reform, myself. or release an album with ALL of the mixes on it...

carmody 2008-10-24 06:22:46 PM
I'm not obsessed. I just like The Smiths. I was actually a MUCH bigger fan of both the Replacements and REM at the time.

Does anyone here like the Muse cover of "Please Please Please...."

I love all things Muse so I looked it up on the Tube. And I love it.

Then I looked up a Smith's performance of it, and it was better. Muse does a good job of covering it but it sounds thrown together too fast with the straight power chords and heavy distortion. Just misses the feeling of the original.

Still cool...I'll have to keep looking up Smith's cause I haven't heard much of them at all.

If I had 5 seconds to spare, I would.

SubBass49 2008-10-24 08:08:36 PM
This'd be cool as hell! It means I'd get to leave Coachella early for once because I couldn't care less about the headliner, and I wouldn't have to sit in ridiculous traffic in the Indio heat for hours on end to leave the parking lot!

SWEET!

/as long as they don't skyrocket the ticket prices.

Primitive Screwhead 2008-10-24 09:37:39 PM
If this is a joke, it's criminally vulgar.

And in a darkened underpass I thought "Oh, God, my chance has come at last" but a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask.

peeny bunslinger: Can one of you aging hipsters explain to me who The Smiths are?

The greatest band of the 80's --the Replacements, hahahahaha Keats and Yeats are on your side, but you lose, wild Wilde is on mine-- one of the greatest British bands ever, the band that saved guitar rock in England from the likes of Culture Club and Duran Duran, thus directly heavily influencing the Stone Roses > Britpop, a band containing one of the very greatest lyricists ever, a brilliant songwriter/guitarist, a kick ass rhythm section and some of the best album/singles covers ever. AND one of the truly great band names ever.

That's all.

tagjim 2008-10-24 11:58:20 PM
Weeners in that article sums it up nicely:
When you say it's gonna happen now, well, when exactly do you mean?
See, I've already waited too long and all my hope is gone.

Morrissey and Joyce? Lawsuit? Have you seen this? Have you heard of this?

Thank You Black Jesus! 2008-10-25 01:25:18 PM
TFA just says they've been offered a whole bunch of money, as opposed to previous offers of only a bunch.

/3rd-hand speculation !=reliable
