A friend just saw him in Colorado and said it was the best show he'd ever seen.

The Man beats Cash at his own game.

The Mercy Seat - Johnny Cash^

The Mercy Seat - Nick Cave^

/Listening to B-Sides and rarities right now, the acoustic versions are beautiful

Or rather, stops acting dignified again.

Cuz I gotta say, I don't think "The Friend Catcher" or "After the Fireworks" would lend itself to a particularly dignified performance!

Just dropping in to add to the Nick Cave love. He's kinda like Tom Waits: once you get into him, you wonder how you lived without him.

The Mercy Seat was a Nick Cave original, covered by Johnny Cash in 2000.

/so I'd consider it Nick's game
//both versions are awesome though, but my favourite is the acoustic version on b-sides.

I was at that Hollywood Bowl concert it mentioned in the article. It was amazing. It's true though, the venue managers did do their part to make it hard for him to connect. And not allowing an encore due to "curfew issues" was pretty weak.

I have just recently become familiar with Nick Cave. First through Grinderman, and I am now listening to Murder Ballads. What is the Farker's consensus on Nick's best work? I would like to hear more.

A good overview would be:

Tender Prey (1988) raucous and murky.

Let Love In (1994) sumptuous, wide-screen, dramatic yet accessible.

The Boatman's Call (1997) sombre, ballad-heavy, romantic.

Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus (2004) reinvigorated, huge range of styles and moods, and a lot of fun.

Also, The Best Of... (1997) is a good primer up 'til then.

Your Funeral, My Trial- You can almost hear the junk flowing through his veins...

Saw that concert a couple of weeks ago and I was totally blown away.
Came home & torrented all The Bad Seeds albums.

I saw the NY show at the WaMu FDIC theatre. It was awesome in every way even though we couldn't get in General Adm. It was my understanding that he had very specific rules for this tour. Venues must hold at least 2000 people with at least 50% GA capacity. Since Boston has lost the Avalon to a smoking pile of rubble, we no longer have a venue that met his requirements.

How did they let the LA venue screw things up like it seems they did?

Cortez: After Tender Prey and Henry's Dream, listen to No More Shall We Part.... that should do.

I love Cave.
