So does a painful dump.

Actually, wasn't Michelangelo under great time pressure to finish that ceiling? I recall reading about quarrels or frustrations with the Pope or other clergy. He did bust that thing out in record time.

Oh, and madmann wins.

There will be no encore. Thanks for coming out tonight, everybody.

Eh, the ceiling fresci took four years, and the Last Judgment (behind/over the altar) took six. Was he under pressure? Sure, he was, but 10 years for the two works...hardly record time.

Check out The Agony and The Ecstasy. Rex Harrison plays Pope Julius II (or was it III?) and Charlton Heston plays Michelangelo. Good stuff.

At least you got a good result in the end and could make out real progress through the whole process.

If Michelangelo was so awesome, what happened to the first fifteen Chapels?

The same could be said for madmann's post

I can't get the mental picture out of my head of the Spinal Tap manager saying this.

So it's settled. Damn near anything is going to be better then this album, including madmann's dump.

Unless this album redefines music to its core, it will NEVER meet the hype around it.

Hype? All I've heard about this thing is how shiat it is. Music press, punters, everyone. The only two people I've heard make any positive comment about it are Rose and this guy.

No, not trolling. So why is it sad?

FACT: ONLY ONE DECENT ALBUM!

B...b...b...b...but Slash!

/one decent member and a giant douche of an attention whore came out of that... wow... amazing band there...
//snakes and barrels was WAAAAY better

danduran 2008-10-24 06:24:01 AM
You know who else had one decent album? Loads of bands. But I think amongst USe Your Illusion 1 + 2, there was another kick-ass albums, so we'll say GNR had 2 decent albums.

Which puts them on a par with say, Stone Temple Pilots?

/half-troll, half-serious

izzy stradlin is a pretty good song writer, and a decent singer/guitarist

between the 2 use your illusion records, there is 1 solid album, lies isnt terrible, and i thought the spaghetti incident was fun for what it was...a cover album

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

"Great"

"Art"

Look, guys, it's only rock and roll. You want great art? Try Mozart's symphony #41 ("Jupiter") or something.

Right now, I'm putting on "A4 Destruction" and rocking

Usually, one-hit wonder means one hit song, not album.

AnimeNathan 2008-10-24 09:38:29 AM
Found a copy of this floating around the intertubes in an archive of songs a friend sent to me. Saw that Chinese Democracy was included and thought, hey, what the heck, let's give it a listen.

Masterpiece, it ain't.

Good record, it ain't.

Purchasing, I will not be doing.

Deleted within five minutes of hearing the first song...Axl's songwriting did not age well.

Mr_Fabulous 2008-10-24 10:42:48 AM
I've been to the Sistine Chapel. It's everything you've heard. Seriously.

Everyone rants about the ceiling, and with good reason...but the Last Judgment wall is farking mind-blowing.

That's because Stradlin wrote the good stuff.

paradroid 2008-10-24 12:43:32 PM
Yeah, Stradlin ensured that the music was still grounded in sleazy blues rock rather than Axl's delusions of being Moby ("My World").

paradroid: Yeah, Stradlin ensured that the music was still grounded in sleazy blues rock rather than Axl's delusions of being Moby ("My World").

Please do not EVER mention that song again. It was lame at the time, but hearing it (in my head) after all these years makes me want to puke and poop simultaneously. I think I can still remember the lyrics...

You want to step into my world
It's a sociopsychotic state of bliss
You've been delayed in the real world
But how many times have you hit and missed
You wanna talk to me? So talk to me.
You wanna talk to me? You can't talk to me.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!

BobSherunkle 2008-10-24 06:56:54 PM
The only reasons this album will sell are that it will say Guns 'n' Roses on the front (even though it isn't G'n'R) and the 13 year build up in hype.

Looks like they are doing exclusive sales through BestBuy which will probably be the same as the AC-DC/Walmart deal where they buy x million nonreturnable copies therefore artificially boosting the album sales.

davynelson 2008-10-24 08:28:50 PM
madmann nails it.

gnr forever a joke.

kingflower 2008-10-25 02:34:12 AM

This. I still love Welcome to the Jungle, but art it is not.
