Dwight Yoakam turns 52, too (new window). You've got to respect a man who's 52 and still wearing jeans tighter than the waistband in Jerrold Nadler's Sansabelts.

Woo hoo!

Weird Al, you are a freaking Genius,

rocky road parody was my favorite along with the rest of the food album and greatest hits and Alalpaloosa

Mirrorz 2008-10-23 11:37:17 AM
Man, I wore out the tape on his debut album. Mr. Frump in his Iron lung is still my favorite.

Yeah, happy birthday. I'm really sorry about his parents.

I got drunk one night and ordered a 'white and nerdy' hoodie. It's OK, I guess, but I don't wear it in public.

This would be more appropriate:

Weird Al Performs his version of Happy Birthday

Video quality sucks rocks, but it still reeks of awesome.

It's amazing the man has outlasted most all of the acts he's been lampooning.

OldManDownDRoad:
//Smells Like Nirvana still makes me LOL

Thoughts from Kurt Cobain:

"According to both Kurt and Yankovic, when asked if he would be okay with Yankovic parodying the song, Kurt asked, "it's not going to be about food, is it?" Kurt admitted in interviews to being very fond of the parody. In a diary entry later published in Journals, Kurt described "Weird Al" as the closest thing America has to punk rock. Bandmate Krist Novoselic later said that the band realized that they had arrived as rock stars when Weird Al parodied them."

/too lazy to find a reputable source, but it's cool anyway

He's still great!

HBD, AL and thanks for so many great parodies I can't list them all!

Fark the artist formerly known by a glyph and parody him, now!

I grew up on Weird Al. Didn't all of us nerds. Then I found Primus (Primus Sucks) in my teens. Now that I am a Dad, I found They Might be Giants. The circle of life continues.

He's tried.

Several times.

Prince always denies him permission to do any of his songs.

While Weird Al could do any song he please, he does have a said standard of getting the artist's permission to do a parody of their song, and then even pays them something in royalties when he legally doesn't have to.

Further proof, at least IMO, that he's not only a very funny guy but a class act all the way.

I actually met Al on my 10th birthday. Back in the "Like a Surgeon" days. Anyway, I sat backstage waiting to talk to him in this tent (outdoor arena) with a bunch of guys just telling them how cool it was going to be to meet him. Yeah, turns out I was talking to Journey. Steve Perry and all.

/stupid, naive kid.

Undiluted: Jesus, it's been 30 years since that video? If more celebs aged that well, theere'd be no plot to "All About Eve."

He takes exceptional care of himself.

He doesn't smoke, drink, do other hard drugs and he's a veggie. He also keeps himself in shape physically, especially when it comes to his touring times as he has a very active stage show.

If more celebs did that, they wouldn't age so badly. Amy Winehouse we're looking at you.

/will stop being a Weird Al geek now...

ActualFarkal 2008-10-24 03:11:11 AM
When I was growing up, I bought each of Weird Al's records. Usually on cassette.

My peers scoffed and returned to their popular music of the time.

15 years later, guess who's still relevant? HAHA biatches, I win!
