(News.com.au) Stupid Australian Government concerned use of word "drought" is too depressing for suicidal farmers. Wants to use "lack of rain" or "kinda dry" instead. We have always been at war with Eurasia   (news.com.au) divider line 38

If they need so much help living with dryness maybe they should look into KY or Astroglide.

And the marxist/green-cultist Aussie gov't will blame this on "global warming" and jack up their taxes.

Kinda Dry Tax Act (to save the planet) of 2008.

Remove all Republicans: Royal Vodak: And the marxist/green-cultist Aussie gov't will blame this on "global warming" and jack up their taxes.

Why their taxes? Everyone in the cities should be paying for this. It was their cars, their oil, their lifestyle that caused all this, not those farmers.

Or it could just be unfortunate weather patterns. They happen, even without global warming.

At least we've pre-empted some dumbarse reporter having a braindead moment and calling it a 'drauft' or 'drawft'.

/wouldn't put 'kinder dry' past the weathergirls, though

Politics is the art of making people feel better without actually doing or saying anything meaningful.

cfffffgagffacfacfacfacfacccccfcaaffff: Shell Shock!

One of my favourite Carlin bits.

"In the first world war, that condition was called shell shock. Simple, honest, direct language. Two syllables, shell shock. Almost sounds like the guns themselves. That was seventy years ago. Then a whole generation went by and the second world war came along and very same combat condition was called battle fatigue. Four syllables now. Takes a little longer to say. Doesn't seem to hurt as much. Fatigue is a nicer word than shock. Shell shock! Battle fatigue. Then we had the war in Korea, 1950. Madison avenue was riding high by that time, and the very same combat condition was called operational exhaustion. Hey, were up to eight syllables now! And the humanity has been squeezed completely out of the phrase. It's totally sterile now."

Parts of OZ are always in a drought until you start piping in desalinated water. Have they learned nothing yet?

Cat With Two Heads 2008-10-23 03:30:39 AM
Oh well. It's too dry, farmers kill themselves. It gets wet again, and more farmer babies are made. The cycle continues.

I killed a man once. Well, I didn't kill him. He just had a long-term chronic absence of life-related conditions resembling death or other non-living states. And a gaping hole in his chest.

So they can just bring in some more water from outside the environment.

Try not to get the bit that's on fire.

It's been pretty rough for hell of a long time, when I went home in 89' there were scattered areas, but even after it got better for a while it has never gotten back to what it used to be.

Drinking water wise, there is a lot of coast for desalinization plants, farming on the other hand really need for the gov.t to pretty much drop everything else start trying all the weird ideas that might have a chance.

The huge solar/wind collector that is? being built tops out pretty high, and might be able to collect some sort of moisture.

Apart from that it might be interesting to see a waste water treatment plant instead of pimped into the ocean, be used to irrigate farms, water livestock.

hmm.. desalinization for the people, use THAT to irrigate the farms at the very least it sounds like an idea that should be tried

I thought they were calling it the "Great Dry".

That sounds good. It's not just a dry spell. It's a great dry spell.
