I watched it last night and it was rather anticlimactic.

It was the first episode I sat to watch in ages. SNL is in the tank. I mean that the way it used to mean, not the new way. I only laughed during the Suze Orman skit.

cpttripps 2008-10-19 02:51:32 PM
Yeah, because SNL hasn't been funny for about 14 years. SNL died right after the Chris Farley/Adam Sandler era. Their election coverage is the best stuff they've done since I was in kindergarten.

SNL sucks.
Yes, I stayed up to watch it last night just to see Palin.

It was an epic fail.

Networks are all about money. With all the new found interest in SNL I bet the NBC network executives want McCain/Palin to win.

I concur, the only funny parts were where they were making fun of Palin to her face, the rest was abysmal.

I would REALLY love to watch the creative meetings for that show, somehow I think that would be funnier than the final product.

With their high viewship last night they lost any chance at new viewers as that show sucked bad.

I didn't think it was all that funny and it didn't help the show nor Palin. I thought it was a double FAIL. Tina mocking Palin is getting old quick.

acanuck [TotalFark] 2008-10-19 03:43:26 PM
Palin's dumbassedness is evident by her just sitting there, moving to the music like a chimp. She clearly could not even read from the teleprompter as well as Alec Baldwin (which says a lot) or they would have given her the larger part she should have demanded.

The ratings ploy worked, but was equivalent to featuring a famous wet sack of cement.

If Palin thought that appearing on a show where they openly mocked her was going to be good for her, that just demonstrates another failed aspect of her thought processes.

I can see the title of her memoirs now "Clueless in Wasilla"

Dread Pirate Slasher 2008-10-19 04:01:54 PM
I'm no fan of McCain or Palin, but I thought it was pretty cool of her to go on SNL...even if she didn't really do anything.

Gangway Fathead 2008-10-19 04:12:07 PM
I'm surprised her "handlers" approved of the opening seg. material. It did nothing for her. Walking off arm and arm with Alec Baldwin isn't going to help her standing with her the anti-Hollywood crowd.

Yep, same here. That was the first full episode i've seen in years i think.

The Suze Orman skit was fantastic though.

Last night was the first time I'd watched SNL since roughly high school and holy crap was it bad. Seriously, what the hell? it was like Mad TV level of crap. I know it's trendy to talk about how much SNL sucks but is it truly this awful all the time? It was WAY WAY better like ten years ago, plus the episodes that they used to show on Comedy Central (even those from the supposedly down years) were far superior to this dreck.

As for Palin, I missed the opening sketch due to the UFC fight but did she actually do anything funny? In the news sketch she was basically just there...am I supposed to be impressed?

SNL pretty much sucked. The last skit was okay, but none of the funny can be lain on Palin's shoulders.

My die-hard Republican co-workers are convinced that SNL intentionally kept her from being awesome.

dasqoot: She's a good sport and that's about the only nice thing I can say about that sexy dominatrix. Wait. 2 nice things.

Except she's not a good sport. The skits were written so Palin was set apart from everything. Rather than interacting with Tina Fey, Palin and Michaels stand back stage and watch Fey making fun of the governor. Alec Baldwin basically says that he can't stand her, but rather than laugh at him, or make fun of him in return, Palin stands there with gritted teeth. And in the Weekend Update, the joke is that Palin won't do the funny rap because it would be bad for her image. Yet she stays to dance. She looked like she couldn't stand to be on the show.

It seemed to me like Palin wanted to be on the show just to say she'd done it, but didn't actually want to do anything once she was there.

The skit about the lady who liked surprises was the worst moment in sketch comedy history.

David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, and a $50M contract. That's Lorne's only option.

There's some definite spammage going on there but the more important question: who reads some random douchebag's daily blog about television industry news?

In the opening sketch, she stood there and watched Tina Fey impersonating her on a TV, and then said about seven words to Alec Baldwin.

I didn't find the opening to be that funny, goods ups to Baldwin for being able to be around someone he so loathes. The rap part was aboslutely bananas, but Todd in the snow suit and the moose put it over the top! I kinda giggled at the "I'm no angel" skit. The rest was awful and proves that I should be writing for SNL.

I got the distinct impression that they were running with an alternate plan, like Palin all of a sudden decided she didn't like the original stuff they were going to do.

Not that I DIDN'T enjoy people mocking her to her face, a la Colbert-Bush press dinner.

Palin didn't flub her 3 lines and didn't vomit. She did fine.

I thought she was unexeptional, rather uninvolved, and nothing more. I don't know what else to say. I just know I was "meh," and my co-workers for some reason expressed to me that they thought SNL was somehow keeping her down during the episode.

But I'm not trying to make any kind of point with that. I don't think she was any worse, at all, than Obama was on his Halloween skit. He was stiff and unfunny, too.

Great comment from TFA -- a frightening look into the thought process of a typical voter:

"The Lame Street Media is still sacrificing ratings as shareholder value by maintaining an extreme liberal bias. The David Letterman and SNL ratings has one and for all proven. Flash for dumb Ass executive, if you were just 60% liberal and only 40% conservative view points, you would gain 50% more market share and ratings. But these slaves to liberalism will destroy shareholder value to promote liberalism. Liberals always use other people's money to do this bidding. They destroy company value by alienating 50% of potential customers fro ever supporting their products. I, and many of my friends do the same. We don't ever watch the major networks; we only go to 1 or 2 movies (for the children) a year, and we shop at Wal-Mart even though we would actually like to shop at Target since it is cleaner. They use government funding to steel votes (ACORN), they use my tax dollars to promote abortion (federally funded for poor women), they are forced to pay all ACLU legal expenses for all suites against the government win OR LOSE! Like Joe Biden who made millions of $gave just $3600 over the last 10 years..Total, while many working class Americans give a tithe (10% of income) to their church.

If the SNL actors could remember a few lines and not constantly look at the cue cards, I would cut them some slack. Shiat, by their standards, I could be a brilliant comedian. How can they get away with this when there are decent comedy shows where they actually learn their lines?
