I doubt that he left the ball laying over there, since she's taken balls from them before. I wouldn't be surprised if it crossed her fence and she snatched it up just to be a hag. I'm all for respecting your elders, but only if they earn respect. Snatching balls just because they touched your precious lawn loses you respect in my eyes. Being old doesn't make you right, nor does it raise you above the law. She sounds like a nasty old biddy to me.

So other people are allowed to use her property as much as they want? These kids seem to be making a habit of throwing their crap on her lawn.

Last winter was nasty, so the kids (8-10 years old) were inside the apartment block a lot. I lived by the front door, so I got the lovely sound TA-THUNK TA-THUNK TA-THUNK of the kids kicking a soccer ball against the wall.

Still happened. Another day, 1 firm warning.
Still happened, Another day, a visit from the building manager who told them off and went to visit their mother.

This time they had been up on the second floor and kicking the ball against the wall, down the stairs. I am entirely against stupid laws (marijuana, prostitution, gambling, etc.) as well as stupid enforcement of laws (going 10 over speed limit, 20-year-old drinking), but stealing from other people is a line you don't cross.

I'd agree with the folks defending the kid if this was the first time it happened. The article says that this has been an ongoing problem. How many balls do you lose before you finally figure out it's probably not a good idea to toss a ball around when it could go flying into the crotchety old lady's yard?
