(First Coast News) Florida After getting busted for driving 163 MPH in a 45 MPH zone, possessing cocaine and marijuana, running a red light and driving the wrong way on a one way street, maybe your first words to the cop shouldn't be "I'm drunk"   (firstcoastnews.com) divider line 89

163 MPH? In a pickup truck?

Somewhat dubious if you ask me.

I got a DUI when I was 18. I drank like a moron because I was young and stupid. Boilermakers (shots of whiskey chased with beer). I guess I led the cops on a 25 minute low speed chase (wasn't aware they were there).... When I came to I didn't even try to pretend. I flat out told the cop I was drunk and asked him if I could just go sit down on the curb while they did the paperwork.

The judge went easy on me because the cop noted on the police report that I was "exceptionally polite". So sometimes it is just better to admit your fark up and make the cops job easier.

No freaking way a truck can go 163MPH. I used to own a Suzuki Hayabusa, and I know what it takes for a production vehicle to attain those speeds, and certainly not in a 45MPH zone.

I took my bike to speeds up to 160MPH out on some lonely stretch of the Mojave Desert. At those land speeds, it becomes very difficult for your brain to process the information, and this guy was doped up.

Oh I'm sure it'll be fine, if that's all and if his record was pretty clear before he should be able to get off with just... (looks at TFA...) oh crap... he's black. Call your mom, young man... you aren't ever getting out.

Exactly. Why would you even want to pretend you were in your right mind after such a spectacular farkup? You want the cops to think you were doing 163 MPH the wrong way down the street while sober? Man up and admit the whiskey was in control that night.

Indeed. Besides the fact that most production vehicles have an engine shutoff in the area of 112... you'd be hard pressed to find a truck with the aerodynamics to reach 163 mph in any reasonable amount of time. The drag is going to make the exponential increase in acceleration time that much worse.

Maybe he tried some of that "Liquid Schwartz" fuel additive?

Apparently the $1000/oz pot calculation method has somehow worked its way into speed gun readings.

Oddly enough, he can probably beat the speeding ticket based on the sheer impossibility of the charge.

There are a few pickups that can go that fast stock. Also, who's to say this pickup was 100% stock anyway? Is it so hard to believe? The truth can be weird.

I own the fastest production truck in the world - Dodge SRT-10, 155mph. But, that's stock. With some minor mods, it's capable of 170.

This happened on the Hart bridge in Jax, anyone familiar with that bridge can tell ya it has a nice downslope, I got a rental malibu up to 119 on it before the shaking got so bad I had to back down before my fillings came loose, I can almost see a sport truck getting up there, I can also see the cross winds shooting it off into the St Johns river too.

/bridge was built extremely high to allow ocean going ships to pass under it on the way to the shipyards.

There's a professor on campus at my school that has a yellow one. He informed me that apparently, you have to sign some kind of agreement with Dodge that you won't remove the spoiler, because it's a liability issue...a truck that big that can go that fast with nothing in the bed is erratic as hell without it. That alone is pretty awesome to me. :D

There's just too much frontal area in pickups to hit that speed without a huge amount of power to overcome it. In other words, bullshiat.

Please, professor, explain how I'm wrong. There is no way in hell that guy was going 163 without a lot of modification.

As mentioned upthread, Dodge Ram SRT-10 (same engine as a Viper)...155 mph stock. Throw in a programmer and you're there.

And you get smoked by 50 different commonly made cars. 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds is a farking joke for the money you paid.

semiotix 2008-10-19 12:34:07 AM
In that situation, I'd probably say something like "I'm drunk, so explain something to me. I was going 163. How the fark did you manage to pull me over?"

Also:

Officers found a bag of marijuana and $1,900 in cash in his pocket, a bottle of vodka in his truck and a rolled up $20 bill, laden with white powder.

What kind of trash snorts blow through a twenty? Have some self-respect, man. It's not like you can't afford a C-note.

On perfectly controlled track conditions. This guy was driving on a regular highway with a 45 MPH posted limit. Let's be realistic here. As you increase your speed, small irregularities in the road become much, much bigger. A groove, a pothole, a bump- all can screw with you in ways you won't understand unless you've experienced it. you can go airborne very easily from what at normal speeds you may not even notice.

You can hit mad speeds coming off the Hart, and you see most Jackasses trying to do it as well.

Jacksonville has the typical florida combination of second generation yankee-redneck as well as generations of ghetto thugs driving around in souped up rides.

I was coming actoss the Hart one night from Flys Tie, heading downtown to the Burrito Gallery(I lived in 11 East) when my date point out that there was a guy holding a a 4 pack of Highlife in one hand and a 40(32 in Florida) in the other walking up the bridge the wrong way.

I rolled down the window and told him to walk on the median, and he through the quart at my car, and at that point I called the police.

Jax can be a little crazy.

Agreed. It's not a "big" truck though @ 5000lb curb weight (same with the Lightning @ ~ 4700). The SRT is a smackdown on Ford's best offering. Fun to have if you have the bread but useless if you're into more than just showin off.

MIguy: I paid 22k with 26k miles on it. Next argument?

This is, in fact, my second one. I bought my first new for 45k, but I gave it to the Ex in the divorce. I got this one 3 months ago when gas was almost $5 a gallon here in San Diego, so it's no wonder it was so cheap. And the 0-60 in 5-and-change isn't impressive itself - it's that I can do it in a PICKUP. If I want to impress, I also have an M3 and an M5.

Nyah, nyah.

The plates:
SRT10: GBL WRMG (that goes over real well here in Tree Hugger Land, which is why I got it)
M5: 0WF 0KDS
M3: BWUH BYE

Oh, and whoever made the comment about needing something in the back (on my Treo, sucks for Fark, sorry) to keep it stable: I suggest shutting your trap until you've driven one. I've taken mine to 140 and it's rock solid. With an empty bed. Dodge made a special suspension for it to do that (I forget what offhand), and the wing does help (700 lbs downforce IIRC). It isn't a BMW, but it's damned impressive.

AliasUndercover 2008-10-19 12:53:32 AM
Now I believe a truck can accelerate fast, but I would hate to be the one driving something that light in the rear end at 150+.

Do not underestimate the money ghetto thugs will spend on the most unlikely of vehicles in Jacksonville. Their car is like an extension of their penis.

I had a supercharged Passat that would hit 150 before I would get a little scared and back off.

But I agree I do not like driving over 120 and rarely do anymore, 80 is about all I will do now.

/daily drive is a 2006 jetta, runs like a scalded dog
/weekend car is 1991 Jaguar XJS V-12 that my dad fobbed off on me. Runs great but am going to sell it.
