Good stuff live

I just saw them a few nights ago here in Calgary. One of the best concerts i've been too. Crowd was into it, the band was into it. Their encore can only be described as epic. I was basically dancing and jumping for 2 hours straight.

Best. Live Show. Ever.

Although seeing The Faint coked out of my farking skull in a tiny little oven with virtually no A.C probably comes close. I say probably because I remember much more of Gogol than I do of The Faint.

In before geezers asking "Who?" loudly and then shuffling off to listen to their old Rush and Yes vinyls.

/Wish Gogol Bordello was playing in Connecticut.
//Will have to settle for Flobots at Toad's Place.

Yes, they are amazing.

And I'm glad someone's representing for us much-maligned accordion players.

they stole the show at ACL, even though they were one of the earlier bands on the first day. simply amazing

I'll probably never buy one of their albums, but I'd jump at the chance of seeing them live faster than duct tape on a drag queen. Hutz' influence seems to grow every day. If anyone was poised to take Bob Dylan's throne, it's this guy.

Gogol Bordello was the best act I saw at Coachella this year.

Better than Roger Waters doing the Wall (flying pig included).

/feels the urge to go wear some purple.

The fact that they're so good must be why 'Start Wearing Purple' is being used in Yahoo's new ad campaign.

Saw the start of their US tour in Columbus in May. Easily one of the best shows I've been to. I had only heard Wonderlust King before, but I've since picked up a album or two and have been pleasantly surprised. The Israeli's are HOT. My only suggestion would be to get rid of the mexican rap kid. He wails on instruments, but the whole rap thing just takes away from everything else.

I saw Gogol Bordello for the first time a few years ago when they opened for Cake at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. I was completely blown away by the energy of the band and the intensity of Eugene himself. Instantly became one of my favorite bands. Saw them a second time a year or so ago at the Bottleneck in Lawerence Kansas, smaller venue and an even crazier show. I can't wait until the next time they swing through the area (and I have money for tickets) because I will definitely see them again.

They're a decent band I guess, but playing Eastern European and Russian folk melodies in double time is hardly what i'd call original.

Les Négresses Vertes were doing it 15 years ago.

Must echo the sheer win of Gogol Bordello live. Especially at Halloweentime.

One of my favorite bands. Not pleased that he is working with Madonna but what are you gonna do about it.

I head Elijah Wood is dating one of the Asian backup singers.

Yea a gypsy punk band consisting of people of different ethnicities from all over the planet. That isnt original at all.

Gnarls Barkley is better, but juuust barely.

Comic Book Guy: They're not Asian, they're Israeli.

From Wiki:

Pamela Jintana Racine (born Dec 1977) is an American drummer and dancer in the band Gogol Bordello. Her father is Caucasian from the state of Vermont, while her Asian mother originates from Korat, Thailand. She has been dating American actor Elijah Wood since shortly after they met on the set of Everything Is Illuminated in June 2004.

Elizabeth Sun is a Scottish-born musician and actress.
In 2000 she played Maggie McMullen in the movie Groove. In 2003 she joined the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello as a dancer, percussionist and backing vocalist.

This is wiki so it could be total shiat.

Heh. I remember reading on the Gogol site earlier this year before the re-design that they were Israeli. A quick site check shows you're right.

Either way they're hot, and the bands kick ass. They could be from Antarctica.

Hell yea. When I came out of their show it looked like I had jumped into a swimming pool. I even sweat through my pants.

Saw them this summer. 100 % farking awesome, would see them again in a second. let alone the audience dripping in sweat - the sweat flying from Eugene's hair over and over was like its own little light show. Guy must have lost 15 pounds in 2 hrs.

no can do this no can do that - what can you do my friend in this place you call your town?

You know, I think I'm going to take up accordion. I was thinking about it last night, and today the first thing I read in the news is one of my personal heroes talking about the erotic power of accordion players. Maybe it's a sign from God.

If anyone has one they want to sell me for a reasonable price (especially a smaller one, my hands and body are very small), email's in profile.

IM not convinced about this statement, Im french and I know all about les negresses, but they sang in french so they were never going to get out of Europe. then there's stuff like Taraf De Haidoucks which is straight out Gypsy music... So who else is there doing this that even remotely mainstream?

When I first heard them I thought "how cool, mixing punk with gypsy music" but it wasn't just that, it was a theme, a look and also a good stage presence , good show... All this combined, I though to myself, here is a band that tries a little harder

HBK 2008-10-20 02:52:23 AM
I saw them live at Emo's at SXSW two years ago. It was in the basement-y stage. It was awesome, they brought out the big drums and Hutz started crowd surfing on these huge drums while still singing, and was eventually actually clinging to the rafters (the room was only 12' tall or so).

/best live show I've ever been to
//same SXSW, saw the Beastie Boys at Stubb's
///Dresden dolls at Stubbs that SXSW also
//best shows I've ever been to
