The only people who won't be shocked or outraged by this are Virginians. We've heard this kinda stuff for years, calls for northern Virginia's secession from the rest of Virginia, etc.
Just don't call northern Virginia NOVA. That shiat annoys the hell out of me.

Isn't this what Joe McCain, John's brother, said a couple weeks ago? Did this person think that because it went widely unreported, it was OK to say again?

Between this woman, Joe McCain, and Palin talking about "pro-American" parts of America, oh boy.

God knows independents (real independents, not Fark IndependentsTM) LOVE that divisive language about who's a "real American" and who isn't.

to be fair, usually nobody listens to anything pfotenhauer says because we're all distracted trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with her lips.

Half the time when Pfotenhauer talks I'm stunned by the plastic surgery for at least a minute, and then I wish I had been stunned for the whole thing when I actually realize the kind of BS that's coming out of her mouth. It looks like nose, eyes, cheekbones, plus lots of injectables.

Really obvious work.

This woman is a giant advertisement for the plastic surgery industry.

Finally a green. Had a 2 week drought.

Here is an (obvious) observation of mine:
This story will get no play. Obama and McCain are now being graded on a curve-bell scale. If an Obama had a guy that said something like this, it'd be over. If Obama's daughter were pregnant, it would have been over. And of course the list of double-standards is near endless.

McCain and his campaign are like the Clown's in Shakespeare's plays. You just expect verbal diarrhea from them now.

redmond24 2008-10-18 07:38:21 PM
"Nearly endless", "If an Obama" and "Clowns's".

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2008-10-18 07:47:37 PM
Ah...it's not real if it's not ours...

And who's waging a culture war here?

I am so very tired of this politics of divisiveness. I actually wrote Senator McCain this morning, asking him to denounce this rhetoric--since I'm a resident of Arizona now.

Real America. Real Virginia.

I, once again, ask what is "real"?

Boston? Philadelphia? Allentown? New Haven? Biddeford? Skowhegan? Lowell? Greensboro? Cities and towns that have been around since the War of Independence? Cities with history that stretches back before we even had a Constitution?

Are the citizens of Portland, Maine not "real" Americans?

You really want to drive a stake through the heart of this country, let's continue to divide us further and further. Let's carve up WHO you are going to represent, as opposed to who you're going to leave to hang. How about the cities and states that pay for the Federal largesse that is heaped upon their less fortunate brethren and sistren--let's go ahead and tell them that they don't matter to you. Why don't you just hand them to your opponent and gift wrap them? Piss on their achievements and their support a bit more.

We are right now engaged in that most American of activities, the election process--and not surprisingly, a lot of folks don't agree. I just sent in my ballot, and I know that I don't agree with lots of folks around here. I shot down a bid to make the opposition to gay marriage part of Arizona's Constitution. I told Sheriff Joe to take a hike as well.

Does this mean that the folks who support these things aren't my neighbors? Aren't "real" Americans because they don't agree with me?

The politics of divisiveness, is at its heart, an abdication of responsibility, and a revelation that you just don't care about folks you claim you want to represent. It is the final retreat of folks who just don't really care about their constituents. At least, not if they don't tow a particular line.

And THAT is what is really Un-American. We are a boisterious, contentious, and bickering sort of land. That's what we were founded on. Even after the War of Independence, we still had to deal with the Tories. The idea that folks who don't support you, aren't "American" is to admit that you don't respect their views, their positions, and you don't want their support. And I suggest if that's how you feel, then maybe heading to Alaska and joining up with the AIP is in order, because you really don't want to belong with the rest of the nation, and don't really believe in the values that this nation was founded on.

I am disgusted that these people share my party. Disgusted and disappointed that they sully the party of Lincoln and Roosevelt.

I brought that up in my letter to McCain this morning. Ayers, Rezko, and all the other crap that Clinton tried to hang on Obama, and mentioned that following her strategy might not be the best thing, especially this late in the election. And how disappointed I was in the Senator for stooping this low.

When you couple it with efforts to disenfranchise voters across the nation as a "challenge" it means that the GOP loses any opportunity to claim any kind of moral high ground.

If you want to take the moral high ground, you have to actually occupy that territory first. And McCain is retreating so far from it, it looks like he's just quiting the field entire...

Whats funny is these culture wars play right into Obama's hands. This is what Obama means when he says 'There is not a red America or blue America but a United States of America. He can seriously just give his 2004 convention speech over again and it would apply right now.

"Real Virginia" is a stupid thing to say... or at least a stupid way to phrase it. But she's correct in that Northern Virginia, like southern Maryland, is essentially the Metro DC area.

I'm so sick and tired of the Republican's "civil war" strategy. These are the people we trust to stabilize Iraq?!

It's obvious that the only real Americans are the disenfranchised chattel of the right wing. America was originally seen as a great place to set up a pool of cheap labour. I see they're trying desperately to get back to their roots.

As usual, a thoughtful and interesting perspective.

What you are looking at is a relic of a past successful political strategy, one that should never have been employed or perhaps should have been abandoned much earlier.

Certainly in my lifetime we have never been anywhere near a unified country, with the possible exception of perhaps 36 hours immediately following the 9/11 attack.

I watched this country come close to ripping itself apart during the 1960s, Vietnam, civil rights and the hatred that percolated to the surface was so thick that you could taste it. In comparison, this lunacy of late is really quite tame - assuming it doesn't get any worse.

There was a brief period of time when I had hopes that for the first time since I began voting (1974) this might be an election where I could actually vote for the better man, instead of the usual, lesser of two evils.

At this late date, I have resigned myself to accept that this will not substantially change in my lifetime, there is too much latent hatred, too much embraced ignorance and a need for too many people to be right, no matter what the cost to our nation.

They say an alcoholic or drug addict needs to hit rock bottom before they will change.
I don't believe we're there yet and "there" was a place I was hoping we wouldn't have to go.

Pfotenhauer appears to be part of that wonderful segment of professional women who are hopped up on antidepressants 24/7. You just sit there and wait for the exact moment where her tolerance to Zoloft overtakes the dosage and she has a complete emotional meltdown in front of a hot camera.
