Anyone got a screencap of the pants he wore in (I think?) that Young MC video? You know, the pants made of stitched together plush animals? That's a ggod look...

I kind of agree. I wish they would have made albums with more songs like "Subway to Venus" if they did an entire album of frenzied songs such as "Subway to venus" they would be one of my fave bands.

Unfortunately, they have waaaaaay to many slow to mid-tempoed songs, and Kiedis writes the lamest lyrics in rock n roll

NorCalLos 2008-10-16 07:12:24 PM
Subway To Venus is a great song, one of my very favorite Chili Peppers songs. BUT, there are so many great songs on Blood Sugar Sex Magik that it's a little silly to claim it isn't as good as Mother's Milk. I suspect someone is trolling.

Regarding the lamest lyrics in rock 'n roll comment, there are so many people/bands that are worse at it than Anthony Kiedis, I don't know where to start. I'm pretty sure if you turn on your radio right now, there will be a lyricist worse than Anthony.

Papa Roach:

Broken home/all alone/it feels bad to be alone/cryin' by yourself/livin' in a broken home

Limp Bisquick:

I did it all for the nookie (come on) the nookie (come one) the nookie/so you can take this cookie/and stick it up yo' YA! stick it up yo' YA!

im never going to defend NU-metal but the Bizkit at least rhyme nookie with cookie as opposed to "feel" with "feel"

(i could have lied)

There must be something
In the way I feel
That she dont want me to feel
The stare she bares cut me
I dont care
You see so what if I bleed

I could never change
Just what I feel
My face will never show
What is not real

or this little barf nugget:

(under the bridge)

Sometimes I feel
Like I dont have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angel
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
cause shes my companion
I walk through her hills
cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

man , this guy sure "feels" a lot, and wants you to know about it at almost every line. Frankly, I got to give him point for being able to sing these painfully naive lyrics without puking all over himself

but yes, he's not necessarily *THE* worse, obviously, but he gets a very special award in my book

NorCalLos 2008-10-16 07:56:30 PM
Your quote from Under The Bridge is pretty lame, I must say. But the one from Could Have Lied is not so bad, in my opinion. Yes, rhyming a word with itself is offensive if the part is dependent on the rhyme to resolve the phrase (as in hip hop and the limp bizkit example), but if there is a melody that resolves the phrase (as in your example), the rhyme scheme becomes secondary. At least that's how I sees it.

He's a trumpet player and the son of a jazz musician. I'd bet he already knows what he's playing.

"Parallel Universe", "Black Eyed Blonde" Flea kills it!! Love the "C'mon Girl" groove too. Great foil to the meat and potatoes drumming, not that there is anything wrong with that. Seen them live three times and never disappointed. John and Flea were worth the price of admission.

Under the Bridge
is awful. I used to think it was one of their worst songs, but since then, they've released a bunch of crap just as bad; so now I just see it as an early (and awful) signal of what they were to become.

I was a rabid RHCP fan. RHCP with Smashing and Pearl Jam opening is still one of my favorite live shows. I waited in line for Blood Sugar, and that's about the last time I've cared. They went downhill fast.

For the record, I actually like the song. But I was referring to the platitudes that comes out of his mouth. Some of it belongs, and should remain, in the diary of a 12-year-old girl who just got her first period

that said, I will still proudly accept your douchebag award

Haha, try harder. Lot of bands these are are going for bass as rhythm guitar and not a lot of 6-string at all.
