That stood out to me too. Interesting little betrayal of some level of respect, which is uncommon to see in these circumstances.

On the other hand, I'm inclined to think that their sense of outrage is a tad overblown. It's not as if the woman was promulgating some outrageous fiction with her comments. Are they more gentile about their politics in New Hampshire?

The Sacramento County Republican Party has removed images from its official Web site that compared Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and urged people to "Waterboard Barack Obama."

The Sacramento Bee posted an image it said was captured from the Web site that showed Obama in a turban next to bin Laden. It said: "The difference between Osama and Obama is just a little B.S."

If it's any comfort to Ms. Bruce, she was also speaking for me and many other people I heard decrying poor little Trig's being passed around from person to person at 11:00 at night after the VP debate. At one point, his little sister had him and was not holding up his little head, and I was afraid he was going to hit the floor because nobody was looking at him; they were all flocked around his flighty mother. The hall where the debate was held was noisy and brightly lit, and any tiny little baby at the mercy of people who should know better would be overwhelmed by the sensory input, not to mention overtired and overstimulated because he should have been put to bed at a reasonable time, in the care of a responsible adult, in a quiet place. "Prop" is a word I have heard used many times about the Palin kids; Ms. Bruce is merely the first person who had the courage to say it publicly. And the Republican response is disengenuous and unfairly victimizes Ms. Bruce: it is clear that she was not speaking ill of the baby, but in defense of him. Shame on Sarah Palin, the First Dude, and their handlers. If they can't take better care than this of their own children, how can they care about ours?

know what would have been good for everyone involved ?

McCain publicly asked Sarah Palin to join the ticket. She says "no, I have a special needs infant at home and need to stay with my family in Alaska at this time".

McCain wins for publicly nominating a right wing woman. Then gets to choose someone competent.

Sarah Palin looks like a rockstar family-values candidate that can really put family first. starts being groomed for the 2012 race as a suitable VP choice, with more grown kids and some national political education.

That might have won them the election this time. McCain would only last one term. Palin would likely get elected president in 2012.

but she said yes.

No, it's fairly accurate.
Liberals tend to get outraged over things like warrantless-wiretaps, redefining torture, engaging in torture, suspension of habeaus corpus, breaking international agreements (such as the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty), increasing the partisanship of bureaucracies, lies about WMDs, lies about links to Al-Queda, exposing the identities of undercover agents, playing "executive privilege", refusing to testify under oath, rampant corruption due to lobbyists, when 5 million white house emails go missing, and decreasing the transparency of government process by using private email accounts for official government business...

But, other than that, you're spot-on.

It is only my opinion, but changing jobs to one that requires extensive travel and time away from home when you have an infant unless absolutely necessary is selfish and short sighted. I have a six year old and a three year old and I wouldn't take a job that puts me on the road often for three times my current salary. I can make more money later but the nights with my kids I can never get back.

Now when they are in high school, that is a different matter.

Not so snarky.

I think that Palin is a national nightmare waiting to happen. I think she's far from qualified, far from ready for even being on the national stage, and incurious and willfully ignorant soul, who tries to brash her way out of situations where she knows very little, and I think that she'd be downright dangerous for the country to be placed anywhere near The Big Chair.

But that doesn't make her a monster. It means that she's out of her element, and far from ready.

Take a look at the kids who get booted up to the Big Show in baseball. Is it really their fault that management wanted to make them a spectacle? Use them to put butts in seats?

Now then, some kids, when they get to the Majors, they knuckle down, they work hard, they listen for all they're worth, and they learn for damn sure quick. Others, they try to brash it out, and they try to bluster their way out of the pocket that they've been put into--but it's hard to blame them, if no one is there to show them the ropes.

That's how I feel about Palin. I despise that she won't turn for help--or rather, that she's been instructed to bluster her way onto the mound. But that doesn't mean that I despise her personally. She is who she is, and she's been put into an extraordinary circumstance. I can't say that I like her--not from all the things that she's allowed to be done in her name--but I don't have a real dislike for her either. She is a poor choice, but that doesn't mean she's bad people.

RedT: ... Is it just me or does it seem that Liberals don't get "outraged" over anything at all, regardless how outrageous, while Conservative fake outrage at every opportunity?

"It's just you."

Not the same at all. Two things:
1) NO ONE should be dragging a newborn baby around hell and creation and they MOST CERTAINLY shouldn't be parading the baby out on stage, in front of thousands of people - under the lights, with the cameras, etc. etc. AT FRICKIN 11PM AT NIGHT. It's sick and wrong. Hence the "prop" comment.

I think Palin is perhaps the only politician who can tie her own shoes and still be less competent than President Bush, but the above is nonsense. Newborns don't give a rat's ass about schedules, and many of them don't care if it's noisy around them or not. Most babies are happiest to be held by their caregivers regardless of hour or surrounding crowds.

Palin is a certified moron with a proven track record of unethical and ineffective political 'leadership' - that's the issue that matters. She's doing fine by her kids.

Aye, it is so.
I suppose if you're going to outraged about anything, those are pretty good things to be outraged about.

The first step is whining, the second step is winning elections, and the third step is ending the most outrageous abuses of executive power (bringing the executive branch back into proper supervision of checks and balances).

A constitutional scholar would be uniquely qualified to carry out step 3.

I'm not a Palin supporter, but what is the big deal about traveling with the newborn? It's not as if he's going to care. I would think it would be worse for the older kids, and this way she actually gets to spend time with the baby which is really important.

That being said, I don't like the way she holds him up to the crowd like she's acting in The Lion King. That does seem as if she is using him as a prop. And when she thrusts her family into the spotlight like that, she has to expect people to react. You can't constantly use your family for political gain, and then demand privacy. It doesn't work that way. Kind of like a stripper saying, "Hey! Why are you staring at my boobs? My eyes are up here, pal!"

Maybe you just suck at your job?

Nope, not quite. I am not one to brag, but I certainly do not suck at my job.

Just throwing that out there. If you are equally skilled and making less than your peers you need to learn to negotiate better.
Now you are on to something. I was hired into a 2 person department in 2003. Now I run most of the department which totals 8 people. If I could go back to my hiring in 2003 I would ask for. Now when I ask for more during annual reviews, they laugh. Why? Because my boss will not allow me near her. She is afraid she will lose her job to me if she did. What I need to do is get another job, and negotiate better. I am still going to fake having a litter of kids though..

How many do you have? I'd say at least 2. And I'd say you probably have unconsciously used them for your own gain over those without children.

Surpheon: beanx: 1) NO ONE should be dragging a newborn baby around hell and creation and they MOST CERTAINLY shouldn't be parading the baby out on stage, in front of thousands of people - under the lights, with the cameras, etc.

And everyone in my dept. also has kids. As a matter of fact I don't know how in my position I could use them at work for personal gain, but I do understand that some workplaces are more political and less results driven so I can see how it could happen.

Pretty astute observation.

I was going to say that. Her kids are off limits until she starts bringing them to rallies and public events with her, which is what she's doing. I don't see Obama doing that with his children constantly. And Bristol is somewhat relevant to her mother's platform, as Palin (from what I've heard) supports Bush's abstinence-only sex education, while Bristol is living proof that it fails horribly.

Her daughter needs to be at home resting and planning her Republican-funded shotgun wedding to her boyfriend, and Trig should be resting or at least with his father or a nanny, not being paraded out in public in front of large crowds and reporters.

Not...really.

I'm pretty sure people are calling him retard because he has down syndrome.

And I'm pretty sure us "liberals" can do without your god's mercy. That'd be the same mercy that makes people like her child disabled, wouldn't it? Because only a caring, loving god would put someone through the hell it is to go through life with that kind of a impediment and have to deal with how people treat you...right?

If your god was good and merciful there wouldn't be children with that disability. So, realistic people would make do with what we do have; parents with the means and ability to take care of them and give them a good life. Which, you see, is exactly what is not being done in his case...instead, he's being paraded about, passed around, and otherwise going without the one thing a baby of his needs requires at that age.

Aw cmon, you can tell they aren't props.

She cared so much about the littlest one, that when her water broke in Texas, she still gave a half-hour speech, took an eight-hour plane flight back to Anchorage via Seattle, and a forty minute car ride to Wasilla to give birth, bypassing several much nicer hospitals on the way, just because, as the First Dude said, you can't have a fish-picker from Texas.

If a hockey mom will do all that just for her special needs child, despite what any of those wimpy baby doctors would recommend about going to the hospital right away, you know she must love it extra special.

I was watching Olberman masterbating to Obama on the air recently and he got so upset that some random guy in the audience supposedly yelled out "kill him" while everyone was boo'ing Obama. Good ol Keith wouldn't let it go and was so very upset with McCain, as if McCain had said it himself. Oh, this was so terrible and McCain should just quite the campaign because he can't control his audience or some such utter bullcrap.

RE Letter of resignation

I, robomonkster, apologize to the thoughtless comments posted yesterday, the 14 of October, concerning the Bird Watchers of America (BWA). It was not my intent to draw comparisons to the BWA's enthusiasm for nature and the Spanish Inquisition. My allusions to the BWA and the events of 11 Sept 2001 were highly inappropriate and not only embarrassing to to myself, but also all participants of these discussions.

I feel that the only appropriate response to the fair criticism that has been leveled at both me and the website I love is to offer my official resignation from Fark. I apologize for my actions and wish you all godspeed on your internet journeys.

well, they did spend the last 12 years fellating John McCain for no apparent reason. so much so that he used to refer to reporters as "his base". Joe Scarborough (R) mentioned the national press corps covering the presidential campaign and said, "I think every last one of them would move to Massachusetts and marry John McCain if they could."

and now, they are feeling a little sheepish about being called out on it, and might be leaning the other way like a jilted lover (after McCain lashed out at them a few months ago). But not to worry, they will turn on Obama. They will always persue lurid rumors about a Democrat President, no matter who is dropping them out there.

so you can stop crying.

I'm not sure if your post was sarcastic or not, but either way you might want to update your prohibition-era slang. Sadly, these days "to rub out" doesn't only mean what it meant back when McCain was in short pants. I'm not sure what sort of sick act "Palin rubbing out a baby" might be, but it sounds very, very filthy and probably involves a moose call.

most infants should be laid down for bed before midnight.

pre-teens can have the occasional late night up with mom or dad at special events. Teens could probably handle a couple events a week. post-teen you can work on the campaign full time if you want.

RedT: ... Is it just me or does it seem that Liberals don't get "outraged" over anything at all, regardless how outrageous, while Conservative fake outrage at every opportunity?

"It's just you."

Taking 'under god' out of the pledge of allegiance, giving kids the grades they earn in school and thereby hurting their self-esteem, whether x publication is inadvertently 'insensitive' to a race/sexual orientation/imaginary number/new-age quackery/fake religion someone made up to get out of taxes or trouble, allowing people their admittedly guaranteed constitutional rights (arms, press)...

There's plenty of fake and/or stupid outrage that falls under both categories. I mean 'liberal' and 'conservative' both cover pretty broad modes of thought, people are capable of immense stupidity and lack of perspective based on pretty much any philosophy.

But, other than that, you're spot-on.

About half of your examples can be just as easily attributed to Democrats, too, so if you're using the inaccurate rep=conservative/dem=liberal neologism, then I'm not quite sure why you think 'liberals' are the only ones upset even assuming total partisanship.

Good question. Will she be dragging the infant to Washington and back too ? Or to meetings at McCain's Arizona ranch ? or to Beijing ?

you see, most SANE parents wait until their kids are a little older and more resilient before taking a job with massive amounts of travel.

You dont drag your infants jackass....

The best place for any child is with their parents unless the parents are going to war or will be back in about 8 hours from work. What the heck was carters vice presidents name? Does anyone even remember? did it have children? was it even human?

I suspect that she will take the youngest with her until he is about 2.5 yrs and can be left with a nanny for short durations. I remember we left our 1 yr old with her grandparents when we went on our belated honeymoon, and she affected not to know us when we got home....that was a rough 15 minutes. People dont like to be away from their kids.

I gave what I thought was there better approach for all concerned shortly after this post, you can read it and tell me if you agree or not:

dbaggins:

know what would have been good for everyone involved ?

McCain publicly asked Sarah Palin to join the ticket. She says "no, I have a special needs infant at home and need to stay with my family in Alaska at this time".

McCain wins for publicly nominating a right wing woman. Then gets to choose someone competent.

Sarah Palin looks like a rockstar family-values candidate that can really put family first. starts being groomed for the 2012 race as a suitable choice, with more grown kids and some national political education.

That might have won them the election this time. McCain would only last one term. Palin would likely get elected president in 2012.

but she said yes.

The Republican party and John McCain out to take the heat for obviously choosing this women for vice president. Besides simply trying to get the Hillary vote they knew that her challenged offspring would bring sympathy from the voters especially women. This was one of the main reasons she was picked. I see mothers who name their children unusually as being pathologically selfish...they treat their children as possessions, and yes as props in their one-star performance in the show where you are the unwilling audience.

The submissive husband who allows his offspring to be manipulated and debased in this way is as culpable and should be shamed as well.

Saran Palin is not a moron in the traditional sense, I've seen her with the aw-shucks mode shut off. But she is blisteringly stupid if she thinks people can not sense her true nature: cruel and unempathetic, a sociopath in training.

If you want the truth about Saran Palin's nature, look to her children.

MrsHashBrown 2008-10-16 04:49:42 PM
Mothers who name their children unusual names are pathologically selfish? The mothers of South Central Los Angeles would like a word with you. . .

I used to think kids who have unusual names would be negatively impacted in their careers. But then we all learned about Barack Obama. Too bad about his mom being pathologically selfish and treating him as a possession.

Seriously though, do your kids a favor and give them a traditional name that is easy to pronounce. And don't give them a normal name with lame alternative spelling.
