Of course, Fark's favorite song is also done 8 bit. (new window)

I could only make it through the first minute.

8-bit ANGEL OF DEATH is much better.

Interesting that it says it is the Mechanix, but the part doing the vocal pattern is obviously the Four Horsemen.

I lost most of my respect for Dave Mustaine as a person after seeing him cry about how he feels not being in Metallica anymore in Some Kind of Monster.

Is this the thread where I bash Metallica or praise the NES? I'm confused.

For realz. For a lot of years I mocked Megadeth because of that and shunned it because Metallica ruled and Megadeth was teh ghey.

Now, more than a decade later and with an impartial ear, I find that Megadeth's work is full of awesome. Kickass, energetic, a lead guitar that knows more than one scale, and a proper sound mix with the right amount of bass. Unlike Metallica - for the life of me, I listen to the old stuff and I can't find a single instance where I think "yes, this is why we thought Lars was a kickass drummer back then". And so on...

Which makes it even more baffling. Mustaine can't give an interview without the bitterness over the Metallica thing coming up. Dude, it was in farking nineteen eighty three. You have a kickass band of your own. Let go already.

I was warned a long time ago to never watch that documentary because it would make me lose the respect for Metallica that I still have left. As if I didn't already lose respect for them after the Black Album. Or Load. Or ReLoad. Or St. Anger.

Even though their new album is garnering a lot of press and all kinds of pretend metal-heads are saying it is awesome, I've given it two listens and decided it just sucks. Terrible production coupled with the fact that there is no aggression in Hetfield's voice. I'm sure they wanted to make a testosterone filled album filled with anger and rawness, but it just comes off as a group of rich dudes trying to relive the glory years and failing miserably at it.

All Nightmare Long is good. The rest, meh.

Some of the other 8bit remakes are pretty good. Slayers War Ensemble for one...

Doom for PC was full of MIDI versions of a bunch of metal songs including some Metallica. I think Planet Doom still has them available for download.

Not bad, though I would have made it all melody-y instead of emulating the superfast picking.

dog man

There were a few metallica songs, but a lot of them were basically pantera riffs. This Love and Mouth For War are the ones that come to mind.

*update*
found the site that shows these songs side by side.

Erm, Mustaine has had a beef with Hetfield and Ulrich since getting kicked out, and that comes up in every Mustaine interview I've read since, well, forever. I meant "that" as in "Mustaine's whining regarding Metallica", not "the footage in SKOM".

I spent most of '95 mocking a good friend who was very much into Megadeth. I called him up yesterday to apologize. "Dude, I've got to say this - more than ten years later and with an impartial ear, Megadeth is not teh suck, Megadeth is not teh ghey, and actually rocks".

/And Dave Ellefson has something going for him that neither Burton or Trujillo had: audible volume in the final mix ;)

Does anyone know of a good NES synth program? I'm dying to make a 8-bit record.
