It took the Democratic congress a few years, but it seems they are starting to turn things around. Do they get credit for this? It was on their watch, right, right?

Exodus2001: It took the Democratic congress a few years, but it seems they are starting to turn things around. Do they get credit for this? It was on their watch, right, right?

As an Obama supporter, nope. It's decreased worldwide demand coupled to a relative strengthening of the dollar. Neither party had anything to do with it directly. There's no Republican conspiracy, offshore drilling approval had no effect, nothing.

The downside is that the falling price of oil may wreck havoc on the alternative fuels industry. Once oil falls below the point that alternative fuels are no longer profitable, boom. This is how the Saudis have kept the industry shackled in the past. I hope all of those Midwestern ethanol communities are ready.

Given that gas prices hit all time highs and all time increase over the last few years and gas is still $1 more than a year ago, it's kinda hard for anyone to take credit for this.

Canadian dollars? Liters?!?

What's this total out at in REAL money?

And I remember when it was $0.35 a gallon when I first learned to
drive.

And since I sold my lawn yesterday to buy meds I have nothing to tell you to get off of, sorry.

For the last 58 years it's probably done nothing but creep slowly but steadily up. The last few years it's shot up. It should come as no surprise if it goes down just as fast as the arbitrary forces which guide the market react as quickly down as it does up.

Think about this, all those energy superpowers like Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Venezuela, and Nigeria will all be coming to the front door of the IMF for money because of falling oil prices, they can't pay the bills. Just look at the Russian stock market lately. I have a bad feeling, Russia, Iran, and Venezuela will end up in a coup by the time this is all over.

In summary, the United States becomes even more powerful coming out of the recession because all the other countries ended with our debts waste deep.

And people thought China would be number one...

Even lower than Lundberg reported. $2.59 here in midtown Wichita.

Here in Austin, TX, I paid 3.39 for premium wednesday night, and it's 3.23 at the same station this afternoon. Regular is 2.99 a gallon. Only a buck fiddy more to go before it gets to where it was before I started getting pissed off about gas prices.

supermutt 2008-10-12 10:49:50 PM
Further proof that the prices are not a supply issue, but a speculator issue.

The only reason the price of oil and consequently gas is falling is because the world economy is in the tank. Once things start evening off, and climbing out of this pit oil will go back up especially if middle America starts going hog wild with the SUVs again, or doing a lot of unnecessary driving with their unsellable f150s. The amount of oil coming out of the ground world wide is decreasing, and no new, LARGE oil reserves have been discovered. I seriously doubt it will stay all that low for long.

Thank you all living in the USofA for ruining the market and driving the US dollar up, you've essentially brought the rest of the worlds currency down causing our fuel prices not to move.

/sarcasm

Truly though, I have to say this, here in Aus our prices have remained steady at around $1.50 a litre for well over the last 3 or 4 months, it did spike a bit when oil hit $147 a barrel to about $1.79/L. I'd love it if we could get the price down to around what Canada is paying, this would at least save mean that when I put $50 in my tank it might actually be close to full instead of 1/2 a tank, or in the bike I would have change from a $20 (last time I filled the bike it set me back $19.50 AUD).

Who's to say it won't just pop back up again next year? Hey, we could always get into a major pissing match with Iran, especially if McCain is elected. The Iranians could then set the whole Persian gulf on fire and we'd be severely farked. Long way to go till 2010, and the numbers don't merit optimism.
