I was really surprised that that was true to begin with. Who goes on a comedy program to get made fun of and then lose the most important election of your life? I mean I know she might be stupid but her campaign can't be that stupid to let her do that.

Ehh...I don't think it would be worth it. It would only make sense if they agreed not to make fun of her- the insults are all of the essence of the statement, "she's a retard." Why would SNL give up possibly it's last chance at such a popular skit?

I know other candidates and politicians have done it, I just don't think it would be beneficial to her. She's too polarizing and unpopular already. I mean, even if you get made fun of, you still want to look good throughout the process- sometimes there is advantage for accepting flack. Her flack is just too negative though, I think.

/I've been wrong before. More power to her and good luck to her if she does.
//Personally, I would hope she fails though.

The only time the "real celebrities confront their SNL impersonators" thing was funny was when DeNiro and Pesci showed up on "The Joe Pesci Show". I don't think Palin could pull that off.

Plenty of politicians could do it- a lot of them realize that a healthy sense of humor is and important part of winning an election.

But this woman has never, ever, in her life, forgotten a slight- real or imagined. She is a cunning, clever, and vindictive, if not particularly bright, woman.

We all know chicks like this. Most men have NO IDEA how evil these biatches really are, but women all know her.

Wrong_Intentions 2008-10-12 07:02:57 PM
Isn't an SNL appearance a way for a politician to show their less-serious side and soften their image? Sarah Palin isn't someone who's shown a believable seriousness to begin with. Guliani in drag, Obama behind a Halloween mask of himself, Hilary Clinton momentarily not seeming ice-cold and evil, these are good SNL for politicians to show a human side. Palin needs the opposite (RIP, Tim Russert, we need you for this one).

In the VP Debate? I loved how she didn't let 'smoovehead' botox Biden or the moderator (who was in the tank for Barry O) dictate the course of direction. I found her words on energy to show that she has hands-on experience in issue #1- energy independence (which ties in with national security)

I have mixed feelings. I think it would be smart for Governor Palin to appear on SNL if only to send the message that "hey, this is all in good fun" and defuse the impact of the show making fun of her. Unfortunately, I also think it's too late. She should have appeared the week after Tina Fey's first Palin skit.

Humor is powerful but subtle. The McCain campaign missed a great opportunity to make SNL work in its favor.

Palin is already planning her 2012 presidential bid. Everything she does between now and November 4th revolves around how it affects her chances in four years, just like Hillary's decisions as soon as it became clear she would lose the Dem nominee to Obama were dictated by positioning herself for 2012.

Going on SNL, which has absolutely skewered her over the past month, does not help Palin's image. She needs to quietly lose along side McCain and then start rallying the Christian Soldiers for her run in 2012.

/thinks she won't make it through the 2012 Rep primaries, but that's a different story

You mean this:

Senator Biden, you would remember that, in that energy plan that Obama voted for, that's what gave those oil companies those big tax breaks. Your running mate voted for that.

You know what I had to do in the state of Alaska? I had to take on those oil companies and tell them, "No," you know, any of the greed there that has been kind of instrumental, I guess, in their mode of operation, that wasn't going to happen in my state.

And that's why Tillerson at Exxon and Mulva at ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) , bless their hearts, they're doing what they need to do, as corporate CEOs, but they're not my biggest fans, because what I had to do up there in Alaska was to break up a monopoly up there and say, you know, the people are going to come first and we're going to make sure that we have value given to the people of Alaska with those resources.

And those huge tax breaks aren't coming to the big multinational corporations anymore, not when it adversely affects the people who live in a state
and, in this case, in a country who should be benefiting at the same time. So it was Barack Obama who voted for that energy plan that gave those tax breaks to the oil companies that I then had to turn around, as a governor of an energy-producing state, and kind of undo in my own area of expertise, and that's energy.

You believe taxes should be raised on the oil companies?

Or was it a different answer?

I'll let Palin speak for herself, and then you tell me that the Madison quote is unwarranted.

PALIN: Yes. Well, as the nation's only Arctic state and being the governor of that state, Alaska feels and sees impacts of climate change more so than any other state. And we know that it's real.

I'm not one to attribute every man -- activity of man to the changes in the climate. There is something to be said also for man's activities, but also for the cyclical temperature changes on our planet.

But there are real changes going on in our climate. And I don't want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts?

We have got to clean up this planet. We have got to encourage other nations also to come along with us with the impacts of climate change, what we can do about that.

As governor, I was the first governor to form a climate change sub-cabinet to start dealing with the impacts. We've got to reduce emissions. John McCain is right there with an "all of the above" approach to deal with climate change impacts.

We've got to become energy independent for that reason. Also as we rely more and more on other countries that don't care as much about the climate as we do, we're allowing them to produce and to emit and even pollute more than America would ever stand for. So even in dealing with climate change, it's all the more reason that we have an "all of the above" approach, tapping into alternative sources of energy and conserving fuel, conserving our petroleum products and our hydrocarbons so that we can clean up this planet and deal with climate change.

Listening to her, she sounded even more retarded saying it out loud than the transcript indicates.
