Please check with your LOCAL county or city clerk's office. The bottom line is if you're turned away, you're turned away. Why take the chance?

Pantsless absentee voting FTW!

Meet Us at the Stick [TotalFark] 2008-10-12 03:13:20 PM
They better tell that to my local board of elections out here in CA.

I've been the Inspector at a polling place several times. They make a point during training to make sure there are no signs within 100 feet of the polling center and also people are not allowed to wear political gear within the 100-foot buffer zone.

In all the times I've worked at a polling place only once have I see this happen. A Ron Paul supporter had to turn his shirt inside out.

Why not just play it safe and not do it?

GhostFish 2008-10-12 03:52:12 PM
If you're getting in line to vote, chances are that no one else there is undecided or is going to be swayed by a button or a t-shirt.

So why risk it just so you can show off your own pride in your candidate? Unfortunately all it takes is one or two misinformed poll workers and you could end up missing your chance to vote.

It's not worth it.

Now that this is straightened out, remember, Republican Party votes on Nov. 4 & Demomcrat Party votes on Nov. 5.

Members of third parties or no party may vote on either day. To avoid crowds, State Election Boards are requesting that those persons who will be voting out of party to one of the 2 major parties try to vote on Date assigned to the candidate you are selecting.

This is misleading. Election laws are determined at the state level. Please check your local election offices to be certain of the laws in your area.

Yeah, in the 2004 election I was told to remove my Kerry button and told there was no "campaigning" allowed in or near the polling place. This is in California.

Go to the polls with your local ACLU number on hand. If anyone tries to turn voters away, start getting names and info; people are a lot less un-American when you threaten them with a lawsuit for voter suppression.

If any Canadians are wondering about this, you can't wear or post any election-related material within 100ft of a polling place. So you may want to skip painting yourself blue and putting temporary tattoos of Harper's face and kittens all over your body.

However, leather cowboy outfits and red/blue/orange/green/lighter blue clothing are allowed so if you really want you probably can try an election costume.

I'm not sure about bow ties, though. That really is an obvious Conservative-related article of clothing. It's like screaming out who you're voting for... which I actually have heard in the voting booth.

Little girl, while her mom is voting: "Mommy, who are you voting for?"
Mid-30s lady, really loudly: "I'M VOTING FOR GORDON CAMPBELL OF COURSE, SWEETIE."
Little girl: "Why, mommy?"
Lady: "Because we aren't a family of pot-smoking COMMUNISTS."

There are plenty of good reasons why people might get turned away. They're not registered to vote, they already voted, they don't have identification (in some jurisdictions), the polls are already closed. It's not always "un-American" to turn someone away.

In short, stop playing Internet Tough Guy when your only ammunition is someone else's lawyer.

There is no right to vote listed in the Constitution.

Pretty much. I find most people who say they put me on ignore actually don't.

Anyways, what's life without a chuckle now and then

Back in January, during the primary, I was wearing an Obama shirt and then I remembered it was primary day and when I went to vote they made me change shirts. Luckily, the church where I was voting still had a bunch of jackets left over from a coat drive and they gave me one of those to wear for a few minutes while I voted.

Do you have any idea just how desperate you sound? It's not a positive reflection on your candidate or party.

I know for a fact it's against the law to wear these items to the polls in Minnesota.

My polling place is in a Nazarene church. There's a loudmouth idiot volunteer in there who's always pontificating about whatever he's heard on talk radio or Fox news. Clearly out of line. I am looking forward to telling him to STFU after I'm done voting. I've been listening to his dumb ass running his pie hole for five years and I'm tried of being a nice guy about it. But I'm making sure my ballot has run through the scanner first.

You two are pretty funny. Don't worry, your worship of St. Sarah may still pay off. McCain might win, and then you can do a little dance on your way to the local mens room to celebrate.
