I think he's an amazing singer. "Let Her Cry" is still one of the pieces I listen to a lot.

/hates "new country" with the fire of 10,000 suns

submitter: "The country audience appreciates the genuine."

Especially exaggerated twang and fake southern drawls.
New country is as bullshiat as it comes.

While I can't stand the snore-inducing, pudding-like music of Hootie and the Blowfish, nor what is sadly called "country" music these days, I always thought Darius Rucker seemed like a nice, down-to-earth guy.

what, by definition, is old country?

I don't think Hootie and the Blowfish ever presented themselves as a "rock" band. They were pop all the way through.

/not that there's anything wrong with that
//damn it... just thinking about the riff from "Time" means it'll be stuck in my head for the rest of the day

00ghost27: what, by definition, is old country?

People who actually had originality and talent, and would never make it in Nashville today.

Hank Sr.
Lefty Frizzel
Johnny Cash
Jeannie C. Riley
Buck Owens
Loretta Lynn
Willie Nelson
George Jones
And that's just off the top of my head.

"New" Country is for the most part bubble gum pop in a cowboy hat, or just bad rock n roll to keep lame cliches going.

/just my own worthless opinion, ymmv

Yeah, they were just Hootie and the Blowfish. I really liked their sound, personally.

Always wondered how Hootie and Dave Matthews got their bands mixed up.

Overrated? Yeah, they were just soooo critically acclaimed. All them critical pointdexters just couldn't decide if Hootie or Aqua was the band of the '90s.

Seconded.

I liked Hootie and the Blowfish.

The problem came when the radio stations wouldn't play anything else, and I was sick of hearing them on what seemed to be a continuous loop.

Now I can hear a Hootie song and not get nauseous.

/likes Rucker's new album
//and not much else lately on country radio

I listen to the local adult alternative/rock station...

My wife listens to the local country station...

They are playing the exact same music!!!

Can anyone explain this???

The lines are getting blurred.

I was watching CMT last night and saw a Bob Dylan, a Jewell, and a Plant/Krauss video....

The Jewell one is the only one that really sounded country. The Dylan tune was bluesy, and the Plant/Krauss song was just plain good, whatever the hell it was.
