Ya think?

i've seen a few of these and every one had a plaque on it saying who owned it and who to call if there was a problem or concern. finally it would say in larger letters don't fark with it. if it was put there by any government agency how much the fine was if you did fark it would also be conveniently displayed and the most professional companies would have when it was placed and the next time it was due for inspection too.

I've seen a few of those too except there was no contact info and whatever department was responsible for the damn things barely managed to stop by once a week to check them.

I would have moved it into the shade too.

Eye witness report: When city officials trap a skunk alive the trap is rolled up in a smelly canvas sheet and taken to the river. There the varmint meets a watery death. It's too good for'em I say!

May be different in Salt Lake, but it's my understanding that private pest control companies are required by law to check live traps like that every 24 hours, so that animals don't die inhumanely.

Apparently it's OK for Animal Control officers to check whenever they feel like it.

Marijuana, Hale said, is a gateway drug that leads to more violent crime.

If there was only a way to make it so that crime wasn't connected with marijuana.

Approves.

//Seriously, he sounds like a decent guy. It only didn't "make any sense" if you don't care about suffering animals. The city needs a kick in the ass.

Barfmaker 2008-10-12 08:30:21 AM
He moved the trap at 5am on a Sunday morning, and he was awakened and talked to the police at 9am. I'm thinking that conversation may not have been his bestest moment.

Police: Sir do you know anything about the trap?
Him: Whargrablbrigal monkeygrblecoffee

/would be me

FTFA: The police officer wrote that Turner's explanation about caring for the skunk's welfare "did not make any sense and did not sound like the truth."

Guy should buy a pig trap.

I'd love to know exactly what it was they charged him with??

If the city's original answer was they'd give his girlfriend a trap for $50 deposit. Then obviously it wasn't illegal for him to trap it. What exactly was he ticketed for? Moving it into the shade? err.. ya I'm sure the founding fathers took time to write that one down.

This whole thing stinks. And I don't mean the skunk. Poor skunk got a raw deal. Cat door usually equals cat food. Nice kitchen corner to nest in. He must have thought he'd hit paydirt. Now he's dead. Course I'm betting that if the guy had let the skunk stay in the kitchen he'd have gotten a summons for not having an exotic animal license or something stupid like that.

The problem with the law and some of the people who enforce it, is that they don't take into account intent. Yes, we all know that tampering with a trap which could contain an animal infected with a disease could become a public safety risk. But then again, so would a rotting dead skunk cooking in the sun. The police officer involved should have used a little common sense.

He should count himself lucky they didn't taser him and shoot his dog.

very young skunks don't have any spray but they do have the instinct to turn, raise their tails and try.

they also have a WTF look on their faces when nothing happens :)

And our traps have to have the companys name, address & phone number.

For the spray in his house, he should use tomato juice. It won't help any, but the next time somebody tell him to use tomato juice, he can say, "Dude, I tried that. It didn't work."

Simple Green does a pretty good job of neutralizing the skunk oil. Use the concentrate in a 50-50 mix with water. Skunk oil is a nasty sticky mess that has a base Ph. It doesn't work %100 but for washing a dog or a car or something off enough to make the smell at least somewhat tolerable. Skunk stink isn't so bad once you get used to it.

I've been skunked a couple times. Used to have a dog that seemed to love the perfume, and didn't seem to learn his lesson even with porcupines. We locked a skunk in a dudes car once back in high school, with amazing results, and yeah, the guy seriously deserved it.

Sorry, this is wrong. They can spray as soon as they can walk. I've raised orphaned skunks, and I can tell you that they are able to spray from just a couple of weeks old, though they will go through an elaborate series of "threat gestures" before actually spraying.

/Massengill's douche powder works to remove the scent - seriously!
//if you get it on your hands, KFC wet-wipes can take it off

evilboyevil 2008-10-12 08:51:33 PM
So the officer thought that moving the trap into the shade to humanely kill the skunk made less sense than stealing the trap with the skunk in it because he wanted a skunk as a pet, even though the skunk was still in the trap?

Zeiss_Ikon [TotalFark] 2008-10-12 10:34:04 PM
Perhaps PETA should get off their ass and do some good, like help this guy out. It's pocket change to them after all.
