Eh, this isn't exactly profound insight from Castro.

Castro's written comments were published by state media Saturday. In them, he insists a "profound racism" exists in the U.S. and that millions of whites "cannot reconcile themselves to the idea that a black person ... could occupy the White House, which is called just that: white."

Castro also described Republican presidential candidate John McCain as "bellicose."


I think it's deliberate reverse psychology, although there's truth in it.

As well as the implications of Castro's comments leaving us wondering who "real Americans" would want to vote for (new window) if Obama can't be trusted on racial grounds and McCain's deemed too belligerent.

This was not an endorsement. More of an observation and critique of American society.

I would have to agree with Castro on this one. White Appalachian Democrats would rather vote white over black. It showed in the primaries as Hillary won most of the Appalachian states. Whether they will admit it or not, racial bias is in the subconscious of most rural white Democrats and Independants. NPR did a report on racial bias in York, PA. Just do a search for it and listen.
