He said citizens can always call 911 if they need police or want to alert them to any problem. In Jacksonville Beach, the non-emergency number for police is 270-1661.

"If someone ever gets a voice mail and needs police for anything, call 911," Dooley urged.

Ahhh man, quit stabbing me for a second, I got their freakin voicemail.

"Hello police? I need a ride to Walgreens."

"You can't? But, but, Chief Dooley said to call."

He acknowledged that some people may perceive the mere presence of homeless to be a problem, noting that a transient sitting on a bench is not unlawful.

That's a relief.

Unless it's a major crime, bringing attention to yourself via the police might not be the smartest thing you ever do...

Well, if you're a dumbass like the ones a few threads down, you probably shouldn't rob a place, then ask the flatfoot on the corner which way to the Interstate while your shotgun and bag of loot are still on your backseat, no.

But if you can drop a dime on someone anonymously, there's no great harm done.

FTFA He explained that sometimes abnormal behavior, such as someone walking down the middle of a street carrying a butcher knife and his girlfriend's severed head , can indicate mental health issues where treatment can be initiated by police intervention.

FTFY

/said intervention involving a police shootout

A garden hose or a pressure washer will take care of the problem in about 5 minutes. Add some soap and EVERYBODY'S CLEAN!!!

/my parking lot. Get off it.

Who would ever call the police? They are just going to arrest you for calling them.

This news comes much too late for Kitty Genovese.

I'm tired of the Ric Romero mentions. Start using someone else's name please.

It wouldn't be a typical Sunday if jacksuckvile didn't wind up getting mentioned on Fark! Ah, jax beach, how we love thee. Yes, the homeless population has always been a problem here, especially this time of year, as they migrate south for the winter. About 1/3 of the ones I've seen at the "Seawalk Pavilion" (the boardwalk) are mentally ill or possibly low I.Q./retarded, about 1/3 were drug addicts, ans the rest were just lazy, old social dissidents looking for the easy life and a free handout. They always make for interesting conversation, especially with a free burger in hand.

But it has gotten ugly down there recently; I keep hearing about how bad the crime is getting at the beaches, which is odd, because as far as I can tell, drug abuse has stayed level. May be it is because more "Richers" keep moving in and are trying to take over the place, and report the problem more, or possibly there is more crime because there is more wealth to take. I remember 20 years ago you could walk anywhere out there without fear, day or night; now I would seriously not want to walk alone at night, and possibly not without arming myself first, but that is just an invitation for the "Robocops" to come along and harass you more.

Don't get the cause, but the symptoms are definitely there; the "nicer" Jax beach gets, the worse it feels. It reminds me of Miami...

It's not a shootout if one of the gunfighters brings a knife.
