The general pushback from the McCain campaign is that there is nothing untoward going on at these rallies, that this is propaganda pushed forward by Democrats and their allies in the liberal media.

Yup. It's the Democrats who have been slinging mud all week.

Yup. 30% of this country will always vote for Republicans because they hate gays, abortions, science and minorities.

30% of this country will vote for Democrats because they hate rich people, conservatives and Ronald Reagan.

It's the 40% of people who pay SOME attention that politicians are after.

The general pushback from the McCain campaign is that there is nothing untoward going on at these rallies, that this is propaganda pushed forward by Democrats and their allies in the liberal media.

From Wikipedia:
[Lewis] participated in the Freedom Rides to desegregate the South, and was a national leader in the struggle for civil rights. Lewis became nationally known after his prominent role on the Selma to Montgomery marches, when police beat the nonviolently marching Lewis mercilessly in public, leaving head wounds that are still visible today...Lewis has been re-elected nine times without serious opposition, often with over 70 percent of the vote.

I think Rep. Lewis, who has earned the respect of your candidate, has the experience and authority to call race relations as he sees them, McCain campaign. Fark you.

Update: Obama backs Lewis condemnation, not Wallace comparison (new window)

"Sen. Obama does not believe that John McCain or his policy criticism is in any way comparable to George Wallace or his segregationist policies.

But John Lewis was right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric that John McCain himself personally rebuked just last night, as well as the baseless and profoundly irresponsible charges from his own running mate that the Democratic nominee for president of the United States 'pals around with terrorists.'

As Barack Obama has said himself, the last thing we need from either party is the kind of angry, divisive rhetoric that tears us apart at a time of crisis when we desperately need to come together. That is the kind of campaign Sen. Obama will continue to run in the weeks ahead."

You know, time and again we see the Obama campaign issue statements that say effectively, "I disagree with what you're saying, but I respect you and respect the experiences that brought you to that opinion." It's a refreshing change from the past eight years.

GWShenlong05: Heh. I just saw a McCain surrogate get on MSNBC and call John Lewis a partisan, and that this is an "outrageous attack."

It's so frustrating! The concept of, "If you're not for us, you're against us," permeates the way the right treats everything lately. If Rep. Lewis criticizes McCain, he must be an enemy. If Obama knows Ayers, Obama must be a terrorist. If Obama doesn't condemn Wright, Obama must be a racist.

Obama, on the other hand, has demonstrated the nuance of respecting people while disagreeing with them. That is what leads me to believe that he'll be capable of leading the whole country and working with the opposition for the common good.

One thing that characterizes psychopaths, above most other traits, is a persistent unwillingness to take personal responsibility. For anything. They will say the most outrageous things to blame their conduct on someone else--anyone else--everyone else. For example, one CEO who broke his secretary's arm pulling her to his lap while he was sexually harassing her actually stated at a deposition that it was her fault, for not cooperating with him when she didn't want to sit on his lap.

I believe this trait characterizes the Republican Party, and especially the McCain campaign.

1) It's Obama's fault McCain had to go negative. After all, Obama refused 10 town hall style debates.

2) It's the liberal media's fault Sarah Palin is viewed negatively. After all, they asked her unfair gotcha questions like "what is your view of the Bush doctrine?"

3) It's the Democrats' fault that the Republicans are getting out of control at McCain rallies. After all--I actually heard Limbaugh say this--Obama is a "racist baiter" who taunts racists into saying over the top things.

I'm going to go against the common wisdom here (like that's something new) and suggest that we all should be lying to the pollsters, if they call, and sending messages of encouragement to John McCain's headquarters.

Let's slant the polls to look like this tactic is working, motivate the hell out of the Obama voters, let the McCain supporters believe they have the American public's ear and let's see where that takes them for the next four weeks.

These bastards are imploding on their bad information, let's give them a metric boatload more!

Operation Chaos II - This time it's for all the marbles.

I'm not voting for McCain or Obama but I endorse this message.

John McCain has never backed some of the more outrageous claims about Obama. But the Obama campaign has lied and stirred up racial hatred due to Obama's far-left links, his arrogance, his playing of the race card, and his degradation of gunowners and Christians.

Democrats need to stop stirring up trouble and start talking about the issues.

From what I've seen, the only people talking about issues this week have been Obama and Biden who have gone to hard-hit areas of the country in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Florida and spoke frankly about economic issues to voters.

In the mean time, the Palin-McCain "2 Minute Hate" tour continues.
