You never know, she might.

"Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started,"

And Jeffrey Dahmer is the most popular serial killer in North America. It's hardly an accolade.

Hey, at least they aren't trying to pretend she's a serious politician anymore.

I hope she lies down on the ice and fires it out like a curling stone (a standing labour risks dropping the kid on its head causing (more) brain damage).

Edsel 2008-10-11 03:04:05 PM
I suspect that the booing will be quite epic.

Must be a fun week in Philly if you're an Obama supporter:

Last Saturday, Bruce Springsteen plays free concert for Obama with 50,000 in attendance. Today, Obama holds 4 rallies on the same day. On the interwebs tonight, Palin drops puck at hockey game, gets booed.

I love that the Flyers' PR staff is already spinning the booing. They're claiming that if anyone does boo, they'll obviously be booing against the hated Rangers.

Girl From The North Country [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 03:44:10 PM
Better than booing, it would be great if all the Obama supporters fell dead silent. There would be a couple hundred* supporters cheering and it would sound completely hollow in that venue.

In a perfect world, she'd be dropping the puck at a Red Wings game. I'd pay cash money for footage of Palin being pelted by dozens of octopi.

Edsel: I suspect that the booing will be quite epic.

You may be right:

As of November 2007, there are 992,696 registered voters in Philadelphia.[55]

Democratic: 749,652 (75.52%)
Republican: 150,477 (15.16%)
Other Parties: 92,567 (9.32%)

But then again, a mostly male crowd, especially a drunken sports-loving male crowd, will cheer anything with tits.

sweeneytoad [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 04:16:26 PM
I will be highly disappointed if there isn't an epic amount of booing at this one.

In 2004, John Kerry threw out a pitch at a Sox game and was lustily booed. Now, Massachusetts hates Bush, and while we don't love Kerry so much as put up w/ him, he's gonna get relected w/ 90% of the vote.

But we booed the crap out of him. Because 1) his motorcade screwed up traffic and 2) he's a farking politician.

I can't even IMAGINE how badly these people will boo her.

Ha -- the Kerry thing was the first thing that popped into my mind. And these are Philly fans -- they make us Masshole look positively upper-crusty.

Oh I forgot to mention that now, after ACORN's voter registration drives, Philly has 105% democratic voters. Watch out, Palin!

TheManInBlack 2008-10-11 04:20:37 PM
So bow down to her if you want, bow to her. Bow to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of Putrescence. Boo. Boo. Rubbish. Filth. Slime. Muck. Boo. Boo. Boo.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 04:20:43 PM
Anyone know if this is watchable anywhere in Canada, or if it's broadcast live somewhere? I wonder if HNIC will cover the puck-dropping. No sign that they'll cover it online on the CBC website (although I did learn they broadcast the games in Punjabi on CBC sports' website. Awesome.)

ecmoRandomNumbers [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 04:21:43 PM
It's not like she's good at anything else.

whereisian 2008-10-11 04:23:23 PM
I'm curious if the stadium staff will try ask get the crowd not to boo. If anyone goes, tell. Pics too please.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 04:23:47 PM
Also, they sent the Queen out to drop the puck here in Vancouver and they accompanied her with Wayne Gretzky to make sure the crowd went insane with joy. Not that anyone would boo the Queen really, that wouldn't be very polite.

Foresight.

Edsel 2008-10-11 04:24:16 PM
I think in order to increase the awesomeness of this event they should actually have her drop the actual, live puck for the first faceoff rather than just a ceremonial puck.

srtpointman 2008-10-11 04:24:34 PM
They are going to tear that woman apart when she goes out on the ice. the only thing funnier than the booing will be watching her try to keep that farking smile on her face the entire time. I wouldn't be surprised if this caused their ticket sales to drop even more.

Shrugging Atlas 2008-10-11 04:24:48 PM
I'll be pleased if Philly fans simply boo her, but I'm really hoping for an "O-ba-ma" chant until she get's her stupid ass off the ice.

They can't do that with Philly fans. There's NOBODY they won't boo.

What crack smoking idiot in the McCain campaign thought this was a good idea???

SomeoneDumb 2008-10-11 04:28:05 PM
Philly crowds have been known to pelt Santa Claus with snowballs. Santa! Unless they really, really like the Republican ticket, I can only imagine the hilarity that this stunt will cause.

Santa!

All I know is, if I were the contest winner she's supposed to be appearing with, there's no WAY I would stand next to her in front of 19,000 Flyers fans. I mean, Palin gets to skip town after the face-off, but this woman is going to have to endure skin-melting ridicule for the rest of her life.

The best would be for her to string the publicists along until tonight, and then refuse to go out at the last minute.

AcheronX: In a perfect world, she'd be dropping the puck at a Red Wings game. I'd pay cash money for footage of Palin being pelted by dozens of octopi.
