In porn culture, women are overwhelmingly viewed as sexually rapacious or as victims of verbal, physical or sexual violence.

I honestly don't think most mainstream porn has much violence in it, and I don't even think there's that much verbal abuse.

I mean, obviously you can find it if you specifically go looking for it, but I don't think it's that common.

I agree, moreover, you can't say Porn shapes cultural mores whatsoever. It's purely utilitarian, and that can't be avoided.

DRTFA.

For that reason.

So long as sex and anything vaguely porn-related are considered dirty, sinful, degrading, depraved, etc., they will fall under the following:

The Forbidden Cookie Jar Principle: That which is forbidden must, by definition, be much more desirable and reap greater rewards than that which is safe and readily obtainable.

In other words, any cookie that is forbidden, regardless of actual condition or taste, has got to taste better than that icky stuff in the refrigerator.

It'll balance out eventually, folks. Don't picnic. I mean panic ;)

Kids are making their own porn, sending naked pics of themselves with their cell phone and web cams. We've seen enough links here about it to know that.

According to a 2007 study from the University of Alberta, as many as 90 percent of boys and 70 percent of girls aged 13 to 14 have accessed sexually explicit content at least once.

Yeah..cuz back in the day I never searched out sexually explicit content before the age of 13. 12 year old boys have been looking at porn since who knows when, it's just gotten a little bit easier.

When I was in grade school we had to earn our porn the old fashioned way ... by cruising apartment buildings and dumpster diving for magazines. I remember that's about the time our city came up with these giant, round, green plastic dumpsters. Much easier on the arms than the old rusty metal ones. It was impossible to see to the back without getting too far in though.

Maybe if a generation grows up without such a subject being taboo we'll have fewer sexual repression issues, begin to have proper sex-education, and see declining teen pregnancy and STD rates.

This.

There are a lot of TV shows I'd like to watch, but I've got a 10 year old in the house. So I don't watch. Kid comes first.

Side effect of this philosophy is Wonder Woman, Hawk Girl, and those Power Ranger chicks are starting to really look hot.

About one in four internet users access adult sites, where they spend an average of 74 minutes a month (Paul 2005).

Only 74 minutes? I have to search around for AT LEAST 2 hours before finding some Brazilian fart-fetish porn.

Most porn is rather gonzo and plotless these days--- no values to pedal.

Selfabortion 2008-10-11 03:25:49 PM
Perhaps porn is filling a hole (pun definitely intended, you sluts) that would be better filled by actual sex education programs and parents who were willing to speak frankly to their children. At least, that might work if our country wasn't dominated by a bunch of prudish jerks who think sex education is the tool of teh debil. Sex penetrates into the lives of everyone, because everyone is a sexual creature. But if it is just commodified or demonized (i.e. porn or its radical opposers) without honest discussion and education to balance it out, then you get articles like this.

/my two cents, let me gives you them.

ihatedumbpeople 2008-10-11 03:26:12 PM
Good god...5 year olds don't see sexually suggestive themes in their friggin' Bratz dolls. Adults see it and assume the kid does too. They don't.

As they get older, sure...they see sex where sexually suggested material exists, but we're sexual beings.

Unless you're watching "two girls, one cup" or some humiliation porn intentionally, porn isn't degrading to women or men at all. There's different flavors of porn (especially in the 'cup' video...yuck)

Lighten up people.

DKinMN 2008-10-11 03:26:17 PM
Why are we acting like this is new?

Kids have been "playing doctor" together for decades. We used to laugh about it before they started doing it with cell phone cameras.

I apologize, on behalf of the human race, for being intrigued and even somewhat driven by sexual intercourse, even from a very young age.

As a parent of 4 and 7 year old girls, I wholeheartedly agree. Why not educate instead of trying to shield?

What's with that? Is that like the natural habitat for porn, or if you wander into the woods at night, are they filled with masturbating hobos?

I was raised by ultra-conservative parents who taught me that sex and masturbation are evil.

The result? Today, I have over one terabyte of hardcore pornography and I'm into all sorts of kinky sex that I probably can't even mention here.

evidenced by the fact that a Google search for "orgy" is twice as common as one for "apple pie"

Great evidence. Who the hell googles 'apple pie'- a baker?

Porn is all over the web. Everyone has access to the web. It ain't rocket surgery.
