"You gotta read the report Sir"
Somehow I think she is referring to the Full-Spin (Fox) version released the day before.

I hear there was a report that completely cleared her. Why won't people talk about that ?

Mordant: I hear there was a report that completely cleared her. Why won't people talk about that ?

Because it didn't. In fact it actualy makes her look like a bigger idiot than she has already been able to do for herself.

FTFA: The report notes a few instances in which Palin pressed the case against trooper Mike Wooten, but it was her husband, Todd, who led the charge. Todd Palin had extraordinary access to the governor's office and her closest advisers and he used that access to try to get Wooten fired.

If I were working for the Obama campaign, this is the angle I'd pursue in discussing the report. I'd raise questions about who really runs the governor's office - whether it's Sarah or Tod. And I'd expand it by asking who would really be the VP if McCain were to win the election.

Remember, she's a Fundie. And the first rule about being a Fundie
wife is that she obeys her husband.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 12:17:10 PM
Ok, so maybe McCain can produce a new report that would be even more positive. Would that help ? Why does everything have to be so unfair to the Republicans when they try so hard to be honest and truthful ?

Girl From The North Country [TotalFark] 2008-10-11 12:19:30 PM
I might be concerned about this dimwit if I thought she had a snowball's chance in hell of moving up to VP.

As it stands: meh

Nope. Obama ought to do what he's been doing all along.

To be clear: The Follow Up would be the report released by the mostly-republican legislative inquest that declared that she DID, in fact, violate the law.

Palin's report saying she did nothing wrong came first.

He is pretty wigged out by the rabid, illiterate, and wholly ignorant rednecks of his base. When he has to tell them to "not be scared" by an Obama presidency he's gonna lose votes. He has put himself into a position where he has to educate his hillbilly voters about his opponent - using the truth.

And then he brings up Ayers in the next breath. *sigh*

This election is truly insane.

Having Obama say something and having people in his campaign bring up the issue isn't the same thing.

A lot of questions and issues raised on message boards aren't necessarily brought-up by regular posters. During any election cycle, people come out of nowhere, bring up stuff that isn't publicly mentioned by the candidate, get a discussion going, and then, after the election, they disappear from the boards.

Actually no. She really just legitimized and held up as an example a report they've been trying to discredit for weeks.
That sort of breakdown of logical argument will get you ripped to pieces on Fark. But she's a Politician, so the standards are much lower.

There was one that completely cleared her. It basically amounted to her saying "I didn't do it so I'm not guilty".

The bipartisan report from the investigation that began long before she was a VP candidate is what this one is.

No. Spouses are out of bounds. I agree entirely with your reasoning, but I agree more with the play-the-good-game approach.

Time: Palin Administration "Shockingly Amateurish"

Yeah, because culpability aside, that's what this nation needs right now--Amateurish administration.

It is hard to hide my contempt for this sad excuse for a ticket.

neeners 2008-10-11 12:49:00 PM
"You got to read the report."

And you, Mrs. Palin, got to start using verbs.

The lawyers representing Palin and her husband, Todd Palin, issued a three-page attack on the investigative report, including the contention that Ethics Act violations can only involve financial motives and financial "potential gain, or the avoidance of a potential loss."

And you, Palin's lawyers, got to start readin':

Article 02. CODE OF ETHICS
Sec. 39.52.110. Scope of code.
(a) The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.

If you think McCain is more likely to win than lose, I'm taking bets. If you don't then your "liberal fear" point is completely dishonest at best and projection at worst.

She replied, "No, and if you read the report you'll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member. You gotta read the report, sir."

You know what--She's right.

But that's not where the report claims the abuse occurred. The abuse was in the campaign to get the man she fired to fire her ex-brother in law.

THIS is the spin the propagandists at the RNC want you to believe.

Don't fall for it.

Heh... ideally I was looking for a white queen piece in check or a black checkmate on white with only 1 or 2 white pieces left on the board, but had to settle for what I could find through google... too lazy to break out the camera and the chess board...

So far I think it's tied. Her campaign committee released one report that said she was innocent, this one claims she acted outside ethical standards. Perhaps a third report, by the Personnel Committee or whatever it is, the group appointed by the governor, will be the decider.

/Not sure if Palin, herself, appointed the personnel committee or if it was the previous governor, or a combo of the two

PartTimeBuddha 2008-10-11 12:52:13 PM
From Skleenar's lovely link:

The report also raises the suggestion that the final incident that led to Monegan's firing was perhaps the most (unintentionally) hilarious part of the whole saga. In the run-up to Alaska's 2008 Police Memorial Day event, Monegan visited Palin in Anchorage and brought along an official portrait of a state trooper in uniform, saluting in front of the police memorial in Anchorage, for Palin to sign and present at the event. The trooper? Mike Wooten.

Palin signed the photo and didn't say anything, according to Monegan's testimony, but later cancelled her attendance at the event, sending Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell in her place. The head of her Anchorage office followed up with a call to Monegan berating him for his insensitivity. (Monegan swears he didn't know it was Monegan in the picture, and that he didn't even know what Wooten looked like.)

Shortly after that incident, Monegan's fate was cast.

I lol'd.

It won't matter to the rest of the country at that point. Palin will be back in Alaska, governing a state with a population less than Charlotte, NC.

3_Butt_Cheeks 2008-10-11 12:52:54 PM
Yup, seen LOTS of republicans in this thread.

Hopefully she gets some overseas donations and support from Americans who bomb their own country and burn American soldiers in effigy. Then she can really be an agent for change.
