The sounds of one fingernail tapping corrugated metal - while sitting inside of a massive, corrugated metal pipe - can be the most hypnotizing thing in the world, let me tell you.

It's not gay if you don't make eye contact.

One of the great things about Halloween is that "Season of the Witch" gets airtime.

I farking love Donovan. Some of his stuff is unbearably hippy-dippy, for sure, but his best work is truly awesome. "Season of the Witch" FTW.

Donovan, the guy with the brocade coat, used to sing to you about Atlantis.

he is one under-rated hippy.

Some of the stuff is just way out there. The out-of-tune-sounding intro of "Epistole to dippy".. thats one of my favorite, next to "Sunshine superman"

also, whatever album "Wear your love like heaven" is on, that is one good psychedelic album, right there

and if you never heard of this:
here's Butthole surfers cover of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" (new window)

OMG Donovan.

Gift from a flower to a Garden.
HMS Donovan.
Open Road.

This guy was the soundtrack to so many nights spent in carpets

Finger-picking requires instruction? I guess I'm an idiot savant.

That's what paisley carpets are for.

Well, you're part right.

While in India, Donovan taught John Lennon how to Travis pick, and he immediately wrote Across The Universe. Good job, mate.

I used to listen to Donovan in the 80's. He did a tour in the late 80's and I saw him live. His playing was pretty good, but his name-dropping during the banter between songs got really old. It was like he was trying to impress the crowd with who he hung out with back in the 60's and early 70's. FFS we were at his show to see him, if he had just played his songs it would have been fine. His mentioning Jimmy Page and the Beatles between every song diminished the show and reeked of desperation and sadness.

I know exactly what he's talking about. Seriously. I once stared at a cobalt-blue paisley bedspread for probably at least four hours straight. I couldn't decide if I was flying over the ocean looking down, or underwater looking up. For four freaking hours. No complaints, mind you, but it was pretty, well, yes, 'involved' is a pretty good word here.

It looked kind of like this (shamelessly hotlinked):

tbn0.google.com

Except, you know, moving. And probably alive.

ZiNg! If I was an idiot I wouldn't be able to finger pick. :-(
