I saw that ad for the first time last night. I didn't think it was possible, but Norm has reached heights of douchebaggery that I never thought possible.

/ say goodnight, Norm.

Hopefully it's too late.

Not that I'm defending this in any way, but they Democrats have done everything they can to exploit Wellstone's death since the memorial. Welcome to politics, nothing is sacred.

Well, to be honest, I'd be pretty desperate too if I were losing a poltical campaign to the guy behind "Stewart Saves His Family."

The Republicans/NeoCons/whatever have exploited it as well, the problem being that they've lied about it since it happened.

I hope to Allah you are right. I just saw a bunch of anti-Al ads on the local news, but they were party ads and not sponsored by Norm.

Either way, I think Norm and his pals are in serious trouble in MN this year. I've never seen the DFL so energized and so on the ball.

MN will stay blue, and may even get bluer if people like Ashwin Madea win.

I wouldn't dispute that either. They all do what they feel they have to do to gain power. Maybe there are a few exceptions out there.

THIS. After the memorial, the Right-Wing Noise Machine® went totally apeshiat over Rick Kahn's speech. They couldn't even cut a bereaved friend of Paul's a break. Sure, the speech was a bit partisan, but the guy just lost one of his best friends and mentors, ffs.

Wasn't this pretty much all he had? This might be a white flag.

Let's be fair. The Republicans went to all the trouble to engineer Wellstone's death, they should be allowed to use it in their ads.

I really hope Franken wins. I would love to see him stand up in the middle of the Senate - whatever the topic, or whatever the vote - and just start riffing.

Churchill2004 [TotalFark] 2008-10-10 07:07:54 PM
I'd like to see Franken in the Senate. I wouldn't agree with him much, but I'd probably agree with him more than the average Democratic Senator, and I'd sure as hell agree with him more than Norm Coleman.

If nothing else, it'll be better entertainment value.

If I were actually in Minnesota, though, I'd have to vote for Dean Barker.

Ed Finnerty 2008-10-10 07:13:20 PM
He's got my vote. Franken, that is.

Wow. That's bad.

I like Franken - I've read a couple of his books, and I actually think he's (often, if not always) pretty funny. I have no idea at all if he would make a good Senator....but Coleman is a fkn douchebag. I don't know if Franken deserves to win, but Coleman deserves to lose.

After getting put through the wringer by Franken in not one but two books, not to mention w/e else has probably gone on in the campaign, can any Coleman supporter be surprised?

"He physically assaulted a protester," said the Republican ad.

News accounts from 2004 report that it happened at a Howard Dean for President rally in New Hampshire.

A screaming heckler appeared to make a lunge for Dean. That's when Franken wrestled him to the ground and with the help of two others, and removed him.

"I was later given the key to the city," explained Franken.

I know funny, and THIS, is FUNNY

I think we can pretty much say all Republicans are douchebags...the party needs to implode big time...

...and then maybe, just maybe, a new, proper, truly conservative party could emerge...

...and they can leave all the racist, bigots, a-holes, and greedy corporate whores to wither and die off.

Go Franken, Coleman is a douche. I'm from PA and I don't give a crap about Minnesota politics, but a douche is a douche, and Coleman is a big one.

Republicans would be better off if they started to nominate competent legislators instead of douches that have one line on their resume: Pisses off liberals.

That does not cut it anymore. As someone from PA, more Specter, less Santorum. It's the only way the republicans have any chance in the Northeast.

If I was a republican, I would look into dumping the the no abortion thing like the left dumped gun control. If a guy like Santorum can't win in PA with all our Catholics based on pro-life, NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO.

If you dropped that bullshiat you would have a competent female VP candidate or a game changing bipartisan gambit (lieberman) instead of Palin.

What would Wellstone want? What would his family want?

What does that have to do with the subject of this thread?

Interestingly, that's about the only way one would actually win that argument.

Wellstone was one of the greatest political minds and one of the nicest, most caring people that America has produced. Coleman should be deported for doing this.

Comedy gold.

I highly doubt Paul Wellstone would mind being a liberal icon. He would probably be perfectly fine with being used to get people elected, and his pet projects passed.

McCain probably asked him not to go. Since umbrellas aren't allowed at rallies, having such a colossal douche present is just uncomfortable for everyone.

Even if I didn't like Al's polices and even if I didn't think Norm Coleman was a total Shmuck, it would be hard not to vote for Al for the sheer comedy of O'Rielly's meltdowns.

I think it's more likely that Coleman, who may still get elected, wanted to distance himself from the lead balloon that is McCain's campaign.

Arianna has actually said this was what turned her into a liberal. In order to be better prepared for these segments, she began delving into liberal theory/arguments/book/articles/etc...and found them convincing.
