as a random thought, i wonder how many people who make charges that people are "socialists" or "marxists" could name any of marx's writings or even his first name.

i'd imagine there are a lot of them that couldn't.

burndtdan: i'd imagine there are a lot of them that couldn't.

I've particularly enjoyed hearing cries of "Socialist!" aimed at Obama given what bill the US government passed last week, plus John McCain's proposed bad mortgage buyout by the government.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure a lot of people who use the word "socialist" or "marxist" probably don't know what it means, just that it's bad.

LOL, burn!

See, when grownups write stuff, they back it up with sources and don't base things on what their geriatric family members just have a hunch about.

And lawyers know that.

I don't think Obama has to be a Marxist for you to be free of racism for voting for McCain if you simply favor McCain's policies over his and ignore the race issue altogether like an intelligent, rational human being should do.

I went to Catholic school until 6th grade.
My peewee football coach was a huge influence on me and taught me a lot about life. He was later caught with kiddie pron on his PC.
I lost a very dear uncle to AIDs related illness, yes he was a gay man, he was also more of a man than most.
Yes, I must be a pedophile with that background.

There's a strong possibility that anyone who thinks Obama is a "Marxist" is too dumb to have their opinion discussed in a serious manner...

Well, he didn't say he was going to ignore the race issue, merely that one could if one was so-inclined.

hehe. Hey. burndtdan, check this one out. This was re: the pic of Palin's legs. From the comments on a FoxNews article.

The picture is just another example of the biased liberal media and the sick liberal lunatics trying to make fun of Gov. Palin. These sick liberal markists like Bill Maher, Madonna, and Barney Frank line their pockets with gold from the american people then spit on the constituion and the american people to promote there own markist agenda. Their vehicle to do this is the sick liberal lying media. So why should anyone be surprised at this photo. How come I don't see the back of Hilliary? because there is no lens on earth BIG enough to get the whole shot. Why don't we see the back of that idiot Joe Bidens head? Because the media does not want us to see the NAILS holding those hair plugs in his empty head. How about the back of Nancy Pelosi? Again because it would disgust most of america, except the stupid liberals, to see all that skin from her ugly face tied in a knot behind her head. Shall I go on? All you Liberals make me sick.

Not agreeing with Obama's platform does not make you a racist.
Saying that you disagree with Obama because of his platform, while having no friggin' idea of what his platform is and not caring because you ain't voting for a black guy no matter what does.

Nabb1: I don't think Obama has to be a Marxist for you to be free of racism for voting for McCain if you simply favor McCain's policies over his and ignore the race issue altogether like an intelligent, rational human being should do.

Quite right.

Then again I see people capable of making points like this, who continue to advance the most tenuous, flimsy, dubious allegations against Sen. Obama, while offering little or no explanation (let alone a persuasive one) of any concrete policies of Sen. McCain's. I see their allegations and innuendos discussed, explored, directly addressed over and over again, and yet those same people return again and again to repeat them. I can't escape the impression that those rationales aren't the explanation for their position, that it's something else. Doesn't have to be racism, even; long-habituated party prejudice is just as likely.

True, but McCain is not a relevant example. Cheney is a much better one.

And you definitely can not say that his race plays a part in the hatred.

What about that time you called Obama a gold-teeth-gold-chain-wearin', fried-chicken-and-biscuit-eatin', monkey, ape, baboon, big thigh, fast-runnin', high-jumpin', spear-chuckin', three-hundred-sixty-degree-basketball-dunkin' titsun spade Moulan Yan?

actually, cheney is a much worse example, because there is no equivocating.

obama is for (sort of) universal health care and diplomacy.

mccain is for the opposite of both. fair enough, i disagree, and do so vehemently, but i don't think his *positions* make him a bad person.

cheney is for torture and secret prisons. i *do* think his positions make him a bad person, and i think that feeling is firmly grounded.

You mean McCain's spending freeze except for 300 billion dollars from taxpayers?

His decision to not do negative campaigning to the point where he's doing nothing but negative campaigning?

McCain isn't even sure what his policies are anymore.

but obama's positions are not based on things he has done. the things i say are cheney's positions are based on things he has done, as a matter of public record.

that is the difference. one is based on reality.
