The student, whom school officials declined to identify, allegedly brought a replica of a pellet gun
Why on Earth would someone buy a replica of a pellet gun? That is the stupidest product ever.

Also the story says nothing about the Secret Service.

I don't see any mention of the Secret Service

A vote for Nader is essentially a vote for John McCain and Ralph Nader knows it.

One presidential candidate was talking about the casino economy in 2004...and 2000...and 1996.

But keep chalking it up to the notion of the arrogant spoiler. God forbid people actually support somebody who tells them the truth.

You and the likeminded enablers are the reason we are where we are today. Keep voting for D's and R's, it's bound to work some time. or not.

Wow, Nader's running for president? Who knew? Even for Nader, this year is a pretty half-assed effort. I mean, he's used to being ignored by pretty much everyone, but when your name comes up significantly less than Bob Barr, Ron Paul, and Cynthia McKinney, it may be time to throw in the towel.

i don't have a problem with a 3rd party. but not a 3rd party who has no chance of winning. a 3rd party has to get enough support 1 or 2 years BEFORE the election so that they are a viable alternative. i'm not voting for a party that cannot win. that just often times gives the election to the other party. it takes votes away from one of the two parties. go ahead and vote for nader. he'll still loose. he always jumps into the race too late.

Nader is the only person I can vote for, and still sleep soundly.

And how do you suppose that a third party attracts enough support to have a chance at winning when the judges are running around screaming "egoist!", "spoiler!" while the other competitors have rigged the rules game to so that you will say exactly that?

Winchester Police said a 14-year-old student came forward with information concerning another student possibly having a weapon in his backpack. The 14-year-old had overheard two students talking in the hallway and was able to identify one of them

I can vote for whomever I want and it will have no influence on the outcome of the election. Why? Because my state is so farking democrat that Obama could probably eat babies on live TV and still win. Welcome to the glory of the state based electoral system. If I vote for a major party my vote simply doesn't matter. If I vote for a third party than my vote may at least give them some more leverage in the future.

Riiiight. The Constitution, Libertarian, and Reform parties don't steal any votes from republicans. Only the Green party steals votes from the democrats.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Um no, thats what the two major parties and the media do constantly to ensure their continued profit and power. Nader and other candidates offer alternative choices that you (certainly by your right) choose not to take.

When you base your vote on who you think will win, you're doing it wrong.

Nader has been in the race for ages now. But the corporate media you follow has wilfully ignored him in order to perpetuate the current racket.

Drunk Astronaut: All for his own vanity.

Wrong-- (a.) Vanity has nothing to do with it; you're just repeating a false rationalization/projection you've been told by those you choose to follow. (b.) A vote for someone /= a vote for someone else. Read about how the electoral process works. Take some remedial logic and mathematics courses.

/probably not voting for Nader but 100% supportive of his right to run for office

Dire [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-10-10 04:47:33 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot to add, if you are intellectually honest with yourself regarding electoral fairness, then you owe it to yourself to support electoral reform. Check out FairVote (new window) for information about what needs to be done and what's been done already these past few years.

FTFY

The Christians had an easier time getting out when Lebanon went to hell in the 80s...there was already a diaspora to help them get out.

Now it's more like 35% Christian, 30% Sunni, 30% Shiite, plus some Druze

I hate the myth that if I vote for a certain thrid party candidate, it's an automatic vote for some other guy. I'll either be voting for Nader or Barr.

If I vote for Nader people will say it's a vote for McCain on the false assumption that it's a lost vote for Obama, but I would never vote for Obama to begin with.

If I vote for Barr people will say it's a vote for Obama on the false assumption that it's a lost vote for McCain, but I would never vote for McCain to begin with.

My vote isn't McCain's or Obama's to lose, I would never vote for either of them. This whole myth is perpetuated by the major parties to discourage third party votes.

If people had real access to third party candidates(real debates, with all candidates on enough state ballots to win) and people voted for who they really wanted, not the lesser of two evils, things would be drasically different. Who knows, we might have had President Pat Buchanan with everyone blaming Gore for Nader's loss in 2000.

x2.

I think Buchanan(who I might have considered voting for) or Nader(who I wouldn't have voted for) either one would have been better than Bush has been or I think Gore would have been.

I think Gore would have been even worse than Bush(if that is possible) because he would have been to worried about Global warming to worry with the economy. We would have had Kyto Protocal restriction chasing what little manufacturing is left out of the country on top of the Tech stock bubble(that started while Clinton was lame duck) and 9/11.
