All I hear from the Republican campaign is static. I keep making the mistake of listening to everything with an open ear and rationally considering it, only to find out it's another bold faced lie.

No, those farkheads are still at it. The McCain campaign is basically an infinite number of monkeys throwing an infinite amount of poo.

Too little, too late.

...even if McCain came out on television right now and apologized to Obama and the American people.

Two cliches immediate spring to mind:

1) I'll believe it when I see it.

2) Put up, or shut up.

They'll keep up the negativity and claim they're not - right through to the end. They will blame everyone but themselves for the campaign's failure and do as much damage as possible on the way down.

McCain's lasting legacy will be scorched earth.

No, if they are rethinking the negative attacks it's because they are not working.

Really, they're going to not pay for the ads. I'll put my money on them producing some really hateful commercials that they never intend to bring into the public, but somehow they'll get "leaked" to Fox News, Youtube, et cetera, thus getting reported as "news" and played repeatedly, without the McCain campaign having to put out a dollar AND allowing them to claim the high ground.

It's Rovian politics at work.

Exactly my thought. I rarely do anything I'm ashamed of; however, I'm ashamed that I backed McCain in 2004.

I said this a few days ago, but I think the biggest difference between 2000 and 2008 is this: in the "Court of Public Opinion" you no longer get to claim the moral high-ground, unless you actually live there... year 'round. McCain ceded the high-ground so long ago I can't remember when he was last there.

If it weren't for the fact that he's a shameless, lying, scumbag that will obviously do anything to be President including questioning the Patriotism of another Presidential candidate, I'd say he's just old.

Well, it looks like McCain has successfully transformed the most partisan Republicans into even more rabid creatures.

Kind of like how in Pokémon, Charmeleon is kind of a bad-ass lizard... but once he evolves into Charizard then he's out of control.

Totally.

McCain is taking the high road, claiming he's stopped the negative attacks, while reaping the benefit of the RNC (which is still running their ads) and claiming he doesn't have full control over them.

Here's to hoping the obtuseness of the average voter comes into play, and they will be unable to differentiate the campaign's activities from the party's.

I prefer to think of 2008 McCain as a "Bob"-like entity possessing 2000 McCain. That way, he's slightly less despicable.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my missing arm is tingling.

McCain 2000 doesn't exist anymore. McCain 2008 is an RNC animatron.

Tomorrow's headlines today:

McCain Campaign reads minutes from an Annenberg meeting where Obama and Ayers say something to each other. Or, possibly it was crosstalk. Or.. has anybody mention Obama's middle name is Hussein?

Overheard at his headquarters, "G*D F*CKING DAMN IT!!! Everything I do or say drives me down in the polls! Even when I flip-flop on what was making me unpopular! Is there any way we can hide 'til after the election? You know, not say ANYTHING?"

EL_FABREZ 2008-10-10 02:40:10 PM
I don't expect them to change the amount. First, there are too many voters who don't actually research the claims made on those ads. Second, that's all McCain has at this point.

because as good of an idea as it is, it's a bad idea. But there is a chance that it would increase his numbers. Sadly though, his GOP puppet masters won't let him have his way. If he would'v echosen Lieberman he would be doing a lot better IMHO.

Too late!

Their campaign is ruined, his "legacy" (read: respect and decency) is finished and he just needs to quit and go down the tubes.

If he stops the negative now, or if he doesn't stop it at all -it doesn't matter.

He's a prick, his campaign is full of pricks, and he can rot!

2008 McCain is 2000 McCain and both of their internal campaign polling numbers show going full negative is crashing and burning. He has no moral compass, just bad political instincts.

This is lies. McCain camp said this yesterday and then today made the same baseless attacks against Obama.

McCain hired the same people who made attacks against his own family in the 2000 election.

He is scum.

I liked McCain in 2000... I really did. There is no way in hell he will get my vote this year.

I talk to a lot of people here (Oklahoma... which according to electoral-vote is leaning the most toward McCain of any state...). Out of the 30 or so people I have asked.. I know one person voting for McCain. Almost none of the people I know have land lines either. It really makes me question the polling.. It may just be a small personal sample, but excluding the guy who for some reason only votes based on abortion stances, everyone from my 18 year old nephew to my girlfriends 89 year old grand-ma are leaning left this year.

icy_one 2008-10-10 02:49:20 PM
The 2000 McCain is deep inside 2008 McCain? What, did 2008 McCain eat 2000 McCain? Because there's nothing left of that guy. Only pod-person McCain.

Attack Obama for what he REALLY wants to do and not some alternative reality.

he's "suspending" the negative campaign just like he "suspended" the entire campaign.

and by that I mean he's not changing a damn thing.

they're still at it this morning with the Hussein and traitor/terrorist shtick.

lies on top of lies on top of lies. it's all that's left in the bag.

and the Troopergate report is due out this evening.

too bad there's not going to a country left to run after Bush is done.
