She's still not smart but...
i135.photobucket.com
She had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity.

What was she thinking?

Drugs.

Beats us, Tootsie.

I was surprised by the fact that she's able to form a sentence without a single "like" in it.

Then I read TFA:
"I sit there and I look back and I'm like, 'I'm a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?'"

"I sit there and I look back and I'm like, 'I'm a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?'"

Usually, the answer to that is: "You weren't."

My door will always be open to Britney when she's down on her luck.

Lets see, back to back pregnancies, a leach of a husband off in vegas partying every night.
She develops a common correctable condition.
Bunch of hangerons that exploit events, tamper with her meds.
All of society pointing and laughing flashing cameras in her face.

There was no one watching her back and getting her the help she needed until it spiraled way out of control and was effecting a large part of that part of society.

She had everything she wanted and thought the gravy train wouldn't end. And best of all the people she had around her assured her things would always be taken care of... but they knew otherwise and knew exactly when to get out. It's kind of like the stock market in a way...

Seriously, if I had 30 photographers following my every action I might be a bit loopy as well. I'm not a fan but I'm glad this girl is pulling it together finally.

Well, Brit, here's the thing. Now that you've had your moment of clarity, you might find yourself believing that if you just sit down and think your problems through instead of acting impulsively, you'll be able to "cope with it", as you say. The problem here is that you're starting things off with the assumption that you're a smart person.

I've seen you talk, sweetie. On more than one occasion.

You really, really aren't.

Random Guy 2008-10-10 09:58:35 AM
My mom always referred to it as "Fool's Hill". Everyone has one they have to climb. If they are lucky they make it over the top and learn from it. Sometimes they fall down and will have to do it over again. Maybe she made it over hers.

A: Who cares? Go tell it to last year.

Britney, to most "smart" means more than walking and chewing gum simultaneously.

My mom says in the south they have a similar phenomenon known as having a "come to Jesus" moment.

Does this mean a Playboy layout is in the works for Brit Brit?

In her defense though, when has she ever been encouraged to be smart? She grew up in the spotlight. She's been encouraged to be pretty, to be sexy, to be glamorous, to be successful, to be marketable, to be sold. I don't think anyone in her life has ever encouraged her to think.

And the brain, like any muscle, needs exercise to work properly. If she's actually ready to use it, good for her.

Craig Ferguson on Britney Spears. (new window)

Ferguson reminded me that there actually is a Britney-person behind the Britney-product.

Stupid people often overestimate their own intelligence and underestimate others' intelligence, while intelligent people often underestimate their own and overestimate the intelligence of their equals.

It's called the Downing effect and Ms. Spears is suffering from it, as we all are.

She had no revelation. Her newest handlers told her to say this.

*bonk* Should've had a V8.

At a core level, she may have had a true "naked lunch"; the moment when we all snap out of it and realize what's really on the end of our fork.

I, for one, would cheerily welcome a Hot Britney back into our world. Nobody needs bloated, drug-addled, head-shavin' Britney. On the other hand, we all need a little bit of hot, fap-inducing Britney.

Come back to the light. If you must, feel free to continue singing vapid songs and doing vapid things, but please get hot again. Your society needs you in these uncertain times.

All of that said, she's probably just going to crash and burn again.

Ashtrey 2008-10-10 11:48:14 AM
I hope she does get it all together again, and she really needs to stop wearing wigs. We all know you shaved your head, and short hair is cute.

It's been a year, there must be something you can do to it by now.

/it's been a year right?

Unless you're Perez Hilton or Kathy Griffin; they both profit almost entirely off of the extreme ups and downs of celebrities. The only difference is that at least Kathy Griffin makes me laugh now and then, whereas Perez Hilton has no discernible talent at what he does.

For the first time since her very public meltdown, losing custody of her kids and that disasterous MTV Awards performance, Spears has spoken about what happened in an interview with MTV

I guess that whole mental illness thing just went away. Please, poptart, we know you have a mental illness and it's now being controlled by meds. Why don't you talk about that, instead of just pretending that you were having some youthful hi-jinks that got out of control?

Brilliant!

Smartest thing I've ever read!

I never would have thought of that!

"Sometimes I think I get kind of lonely because you don't open the gate up that much, you know I mean?"

We know that she has decided to "open the gate" at least twice.

She must've tried to give CPR to a car battery.. Don't worry, it won't last too long.

She may be on her way all the way back...unlike the other train wreck known as Amy Winehouse.

I sit there and I look back and I'm like, 'I'm a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?

The question isn't what she was thinking, but why she allowed herself to believe in it. What she went through was a very typical situation, especially for a very wealthy girl who decides to marry way below her worth. She just did it with a leech like celebrity news industry latched on to her every step of the way, goading her into a further tailspin for their own benefit.

Warning: i just heard her new song Womanizer and now it's stuck in my head.

It could happen to you.
